04: Poison In Grandfather's Tea?

Adam rolled on the bed, groaning as pain attacked all parts of his body.

Memories of what happened floated back to his mind, leaving him dazed.

He actually survived?

Adam blinked his lashes open, meeting himself in an unfamiliar environment. Lying on a king-sized bed, he was in a luxurious room with chandeliers and ancient paintings on the wall.

Adam sat up admist the excruciating pain. He tried to move his left leg, but the cast was too heavy. Asides that, a large bandage was wrapped around his head and his back.

Being a medical expert himself, he knew it was a miracle he survived. Judging by the several injuries he sustained, he might never be able to walk again.

All because of those damn people!

Adam suppressed the anger in his heart, observing the room again.

Where the hell was he?

Suddenly, footsteps approached the door along with two voices. "Listen, you'd better not have any ideas about the Master, else your grandfather is totally going to kick you out!"

"Jacob, you!" the other person yelled.

The door swung open with a middle aged man bursting in.

"Master, you're awake!" His eyes lit up when he saw Adam.

"Oh, thank Goodness! For the past three days, your grandfather has been on edge worried about you. Even your Uncle and Aunt are flying in from Canada cause of the tragic news!" He beamed, relief on his face.

Adam was absolutely bewildered. "E. . .Excuse me. What are you talking about?"

He paused for a moment, confused. "Master, could it be that you lost all your memories?"

"My memory is still intact, sire." Adam quickly replied. "My name is Adam and I'm the only one left when my parents disappeared a few years ago."

"Master has gone mad!" Screaming, the man dashed out.

Adam was stunned.

Who was that man? Why was he calling him Master?

In less than a minute, three pairs of feet scurried back into the room.

"Master!" A chubby, fair woman shrieked. "It's really you, Master Adam."

She was holding onto a tall grey-haired man whose eyes was fixated on him.

Adam felt his heart race under the old man's scrutinization. Why did he feel so familiar to this person?

The dark hair, sharp and resolute jaw, and small sunken eyes was exactly like his father's!

"Master, you remember me, right?" The chubby woman walked forward. "I was your nanny up till your father left the mansion many years ago."

That was when it clicked!

A wave of memories suddenly beseiged Adam, making his head hurt with pain.

His Grandfather, Isaac Walters.

Back then, his parents had Nanny Rose take care of him up till he was 5 years old when they moved to another city. He even recalled the housekeeper, Mr Jacob.

"My grandson." The old man stopped near the bed, grabbing his hands. "You didn't forget me, did you?" Adam could see the pain and anger in his eyes.

How could Adam forget the man that threw his father, Felix out of the family back then, forcing them to move to Colorado to start a new life.

Felix had changed his last time to Carter and moved on.

"Of course, Grandpa. I remember you." Adam replied. "My father had to escape Colorado when his company crashed. Do you have any news about him?"

Isaac's face paled. "Shortly after Felix left Colorado, he got into an accident that got him permanently immobile." He hesitated. "Your mother died in that crash."

Adam's heart exploded.

His mother was dead, and his father had been immobile for 5 years?

"I'm so sorry, son. If only I was a bit more attentive. If I didn't throw your father out then, perhaps this would have been avoided." Isaac choked, regret in his voice. "And now, look at you."

Adam stared back at the old man, his throat clamped with anger and trepidation.

What the hell was happening to his family?

"I tried to stop Master Felix that day." Rose sobbed in grief. "If only I knew they would get into such a horrible accident."

Isaac flashed her a stern look before continuing. "A few months ago, I dispatched some men to investigate your state of living at the Hemsworths. Those bastards made you a slave!"

Adam felt anger surge through him. "Why didn't you come get me then?"

"You were so in love with your wife that you would endure anything. Besides, while we kept investigating that family, I had some men deliver a VIP bank card to you, but it seemed you never used it."

Adam recalled the day a random man walked up to hand him a silver card. He only threw it into his and forgot.

"Things have taken a more dangerous turn, Adam, we have to-" The old man's complexion suddenly paled, and he started coughing violently.

"Master!" Jacob and Rose scurried to help him immediately. His face had turned green so they sat him down, pressing a inhaler in his mouth.

Adam was stunned.

It happened so fast that he felt chills creep up his spine.

When his Grandfather was finally calm, his face was pale and withdrawn, his trembling hands clutching hard onto the stick.

"Your grandfather has less than a year to live." Jacob announced with despair.

"Jacob. That's nonsense!" Isaac's eyes shone with determination. "It's just a small issue, son. Nothing to be bothered about."

"Now that you're awake, you have to take over my Legacy as soon as possible. You're to become the President of Walters Corporations in place of your father."

"What?" Another wave of shock ran through him.

"The companies are currently on the brink of a financial crisis, you're returning to Colorado as soon as possible!"

.

Adam sat in silence for a long time, reeling in the shock of everything that was just revealed to him.

5 year ago, his parents had returned to Nevada, begging Issac take them in but he refused. Felix had to get an apartment and begin a job as a delivery man, Nora got a job in a local hospital as a doctor.

After he was diagnosed with lung disease, Isaac hurriedly called for Felix to hand over his entire company. Ironically, his parents got into the accident that same day.

Adam's neck stiffened.

It was too much of a coincidence for him to believe.

Glancing down at his injuries, memories of what led to his accident resurfaced.

His pendant suddenly stirred and Adam brought it closer to inspect it. Apart from the dragon fire inscription, it looked rather old.

A thought struck him. He'd seen this same inscription when he was little.

Adam closed his eyes and tried to recall. It was in one of his mother's Books for Chinese Medicine.

His mother had gifted him this pendant right before they left Colorado, but he never thought anything of it.

Jacob stepped in. "The doctor is here to check you, Master."

Adam waved him over. "Do you by chance still have access to any of my mother's Medical Books?"

"Yes, Master. Your grandfather moved all your parents things back here after the accident."

Adam nodded. "Alright. I need you to find a book with this dragon inscription on the front cover. Can you find it discreetly?"

Jacob gave a curt nod, bowed and left.

A while later, the doctor arrived to check his injuries. "You're recovering quite fast for your condition, Mr Walters. Make sure you take your supplements, and don't move around too much."

"Thank you, doctor." Adam nodded as the man left.

He relaxed to sleep, and 2 hours later, Jacob returned with a Book on Chinese Medicine. Adam waved him off with thanks and opened it.

It spoke about the several powers of the pendant he was wearing. The pendant had to power to give him divine healing skills, strength and even advise on herbs that could cure diseases.

Adam was more than elated.

Following the healing instructions, he allowed two drops of his blood on the pendant. It glowed a bright red and like the last time, a surge of hot energy spread outward to all parts of his body.

Closing his eyes, Adam controlled his breathing, using his mind to concentrate the energy, gathering it to the point of injuries in his arm.

It seared painfully for the first twenty seconds, but after that he felt the wound stitching up and healing completely!

Adam flicked his eyes open, hurrying to uncover the bandage.

He was right.

The wound had healed completely, leaving only a small scar!

Adam sighed in relief.

With this pendant, he wouldn't spend too long on this wheelchair.

.........

2 days later,

"Here are your medications, Master Adam." Nanny Rose helped him up, placing a tray of fruits, water and some pills.

Adam was clad in new clothes, his complexion way better.

"Thank you, Rose."

The woman only smiled, patting his shoulders.

When she left, Adam took some fruits and began his healing process again.

With each passing day, he was able to heal 1/4th of his injuries.

20 mins later, he was panting heavily, sweat dripping down his brows. He had exhausted most of his inner energy healing himself.

If he tried any further, he might lose consciousness.

By dinner time, Rose returned to get him into a wheelchair. This was the first time Adam was stepping out of the room.

The halls were high and exorbitant, chandeliers dangling, beautiful portraits all around.

Rose pushed his wheelchair into a wide, luxurious dining room. His grandfather was already at the edge of the long table, waiting.

"Adam." Isaac gave an approving nod. "The doctors said it would take a month to be able to move, but I can see you've improved drastically."

That's due to my ancestral pendant. Adam thought to himself.

Rose settled him beside the old man. His face was paler, with the wrinkles more profound.

Adam instinctively grabbed his hand to check his pulse.

"You don't need to worry," he waved but Adam's frown deepened.

His Grandfather's illness didn't seem ordinary. It was probably triggered.

Adam was only 50% sure, so he kept the thought to himself.

Soon, half a dozen helpers made their way in with several trays of delicacies.

"Are we expecting other people?" Adam was stunned.

"Yeah. A few of your cousins are joining us to celebrate your return." Isaac's eyes flickered.

Before Adam could reply, a beautiful blonde stepped in majestically. Casting a glance at him, she gave a small smile before bowing to Isaac. "Grandfather."

"This is Camilla, your Uncle Williams daughter. She just arrived from London." Isaac introduced.

"Of course." Adam smiled bitterly. He couldn't forget his father's younger brother, Wiliams who caused the scandal that led his father being kicked out.

The girl grinned at him again, and Adam smiled back. He hadn't recognized her because Williams kept his children abroad back then.

"Big Brother!" Camilla squealed as another exquisite looking man stepped in.

Adam's throat went dry.

Roberto Walters stood still, staring at him with a small sinister smile.

The same smile he wore as he watched the truck crash into him days ago.

"D. . .Don't tell he is-?" Adam asked in horror.

"Roberto, your Uncle's only son."
