05: Amelia is Alive?

Adam sat frozen in shock as Roberto crossed the room, saluting thier grandfather before seating right next to him.

"We meet again." His smile didn't reach his eyes.

"You guys have met?" Camilla and the old man were a bit surprised.

Adam snapped out of his reverie, after taking in a large gulp of water.

"V. . .Very briefly. Back in Colorado. " He admitted, giving them little chance to ask anything further.

His grandfather definitely cannot know that Roberto was responsible for his accident, right after snatching his wife.

Roberto flashed him another meaning smile before they began eating.

"Oh, Rob. How's been the company these days?" Camilla spoke up.

After Felix was kicked out, Williams had maintained the position of Vice President at Walters Corporations, successfully handing it down to his son.

Adam clenched his jaw, trying to control his rage. This father-son pair didn't seem too simple.

"Things have been going smoothly. Though I'm yet to understand why Grandpa is hesitating to make me President." Roberto replied calmly, though there was a sharp look in his eyes.

He sighed. "I hope you make the right choice, Grandpa. Someone truly capable of maintaining the Walter's Legacy, not someone you choose just based on sentiments."

"No worries, Robert. I know what I'm doing." Isaac assured.

Adam sipped some water. Did it just seem like Grandfather was trying to pacify Roberto?

Everyone knew Isaac doted on Williams as his favorite child. Adam didn't realize it was to the extent of fearing to anger his son.

Even Roberto's tone carried a subtle threat just now.

Adam dropped his fork. What the hell was going on?

"What's wrong, Adam? Is the food not to your taste?" Roberto was the one that asked.

"I just lost my appetite."

"You need nutritious food, son." Isaac pushed a bowl of goshweed soup to him. "Here. Roar prepared this for your bones, quickly drink it."

Adam brought it to his nose, after ascertaining it didn't smell funny, he downed it all.

"Thanks for the meal, Grandpa." He pushed his chair back. Seeing Roberto only made his blood boil.

"There's still someone you need to meet." Isaac waved Jacob over. "Is she here yet?"

"Yes, Master. Miss just arrived."

The next second, a red-haired woman stepped in, clad in black bodyguard clothes.

Adam's heart raced for the second time this evening.

Tall, with a slender muscular build and a blank look on her face, she quickly saluted Isaac.

"Cleo?" Adam gasped.

The moment their eyes met, Adam felt a wave of nostalgia.

Cleo was his childhood best friend, they did everything together, went to school, played, rebelled, even protecting him from bullies back then.

Her father had been Grandfather's PA and bodyguard, which made him like a member of the Walters family.

"Returning to Colorado, Cleo will become your bodyguard." Isaac broke the tension in the atmosphere.

"What a suitable candidate." Roberto mocked sarcastically.

Adam caught the fierce glare Cleo sent at Roberto, right before she came to his side.

Roberto smirked at her, sipping his wine.

"Cleo." Isaac interrupted. "You can bring Adam to his room."

"Yes Master." Her face was expressionless as she led him away.

"Cleo, it's been so long!" Adam muttered with a smile immediately they stepped out.

"Hmm."

"You finally became a bodyguard like your father, that's so cool!" he laughed. "It's just quite unfortunate that we lost contact, I always thought of you and missed you everyday."

"Hmm." Her response was curt.

"Cleo?" Adam stopped to glance at her.

"Let's leave the past as it is, Master Adam. There are more pressing issues to deal with in the present." Her face was blank.

Adam smiled sadly at the distant tone in her voice. Cleo was his bodyguard now, no longer his childhood friend.

In the bedroom, she headed for the cabinet to retrieve a key.

"What're you doing?" He asked.

She pushed against a small compartment on the shelf, and a hidden door opened on the wall. "Come on, you need to see this."

His stomach sinked. His instinct warned him that he was about to discover something immensely shocking.

The hall was dimly lit, with a faint smell of disinfectant in the air.

They came to a stop in front of one room, as Cleo unlocked and pushed the door open.

To his chagrin, the room lighted up to reveal a small bedroom with pink walls, cabinet and stuffed toys.

On the bed, there was an untouched tray of food and several packet of drugs.

Before Adam could comprehend the situation, a little girl stepped out of the bathroom.

"Aunt Cleo, did you bring my Daddy?" her tiny voice was on the verge of tears.

Adam's head banged.

"A. . .Amelia?" He gasped in horror.

Her huge eyes, small sharp nose and even her Auburn hair. The girl standing right in front of him was his little sister.

His sister that supposedly died a year ago!

Cleo pulled the girl closer to wipe her tears. "You've been crying again, huh?"

Her small face paled when she saw Adam. "I don't want to see any bad man. I want my daddy! Take me away, he is a bad man!" Amelia shrieked, glaring with a depth of hatred that shocked Adam.

"Baby, calm down." Cleo tried to pacify her.

"Amelia." Adam croaked, trying to reach her. "Can you remember big brother that always fed you chocolates?"

"No!" Amelia thrashed. "He wants to hurt me, he is a bad person. I want my Daddy! Get away from me!"

"Amelia, I'll get your Daddy." Cleo quickly injected her a slow sedative, placing her gently on the bed.

His heart slamming, Adam watched Cleo feed Amelia some fruits before gently patting her to sleep.

His sister's eyes didn't leave his for once, and the intense look of hatred shocked him to the core.

Adam swallowed hard. How did she end up here, in such a state?

When the little girl was finally asleep, Cleo stood up, sighing bitterly. "Her condition doesn't seem to be improving."

"W. . .What happened?" He had to ask.

"It's a long story, Adam. While you were slaving away at house chores, Lori Hemsworth refused to pay your sister's hospital bills. Amelia actually contracted tuberculosis, not a liver disease like they made you believe. The doctors kept begging your in-laws to pay so the virus wouldn't invade her brain."

"Not only did they refuse to pay, they made you leave her in their care in exchange for working house chores, and later they abandoned your sister. Amelia was found on the brink of death by Old Master Isaac's friend who immediately flew her to a specialist hospital. Unfortunately the damage had already been done!" Cleo gritted.

Adam felt his head twirl, clenching his fists so hard it hurt.

The Hemsworths!

Not only had they maltreated him, they left his sister to die!

If he didn't destroy that family and drag them down to ruins, his name wasn't Adam Walters!

Cleo wasn't done. "Your grandfather was elated to have found you and wanted to bring you back, but Roberto kept opposing his decision. That brute seemed to be happy that your sister was dead so the old man kept Amelia hidden away."

"Of course, that bastard has got something to do with this!" Adam's voice roughened.

It all made sense now.

"When the Old Master asked me to investigate, I discovered that the Hemsworths had a hand in everything. I was almost getting a substantial evidence when Master called me to return that you'd gotten into an accident."

Shock was an understatement to what Adam felt. Aside from the fact that Roberto was his cousin, his sister was still alive. And every bad thing that happened was connected to the Hemsworths!

It only went to confirm the suspicions he had earlier. Nothing was a coincidence!

"What about Roberto's parents?" Adam asked.

At least his own parents were dead, but what about his father's only brother?

"His mother refused to return from England, and Williams died from a heart attack recently."

"Ohh." Adam's gaze flickered. He didn't understand one thing though. "Why didn't grandfather tell me all this himself?"

"Cause he's scared." Cleo replied immediately. "I don't know what Williams has on him, but it seemed to have been effective enough to make him kick your father out those years ago. Now that he's insisting on making you the President, he's actually taking a dangerous risk."

"Meaning you're the only one he can trust?" Adam cocked his brows.

Cleo looked away shyly. "Yeah. After my father passed on, I've been his PA and his only confidant."

That explains the hatred Roberto has for her.

"Then, you should know that my Grandfather is being poisoned!" Adam slammed accusingly.

"Hmmph." Cleo was furious. "Despite knowing that the poison is the one causing his disease to worsen, the old man refused to stop taking that stupid tea!"

Adam didn't seem surprised though.

It would be odd if no one had discovered such an obvious poison. What he didn't get was why the old man was putting his life on the line.

The more he thought of it, the more confused he got.

Pushing his wheelchair to his Amelia's bedside, Adam proceeded to check her pulse.

He placed his hand on her abdomen and closed his eyes, scanning through her organs with his divine powers.

Frowning, he checked her temperature and inspected her face.

"Are you positive no one else knows that my sister is in this room?"

Cleo was shocked. "What? Why?"

"Well, it seems there's something wrong with her water."

"Oh, crap!" Cleo's face hardened. "No one, except me and the old man. Shit! He might have let a few words slip."

Adam shook his head. "Looking at it, the person has no idea who is kept here, so he kept sending drug-repressant pills dissolved in water, which is only suitable for adults. This is the main reason why my sister's condition is deteriorating every passing day!" His gaze turned terrifyingly cold.

Murdering his parents wasn't enough, they still dared to harm his sister right here?

That person must have a death wish!
