08: Your Day of Retribution is Near!

Adam twirled to find Lori huffing at him, hands on her waist, face full of makeup.

"You were supposed to be dead, Adam! What're you doing here sneaking around my garden?"

Adam suppressed the urge to grab and strangle her by the neck right now. "What happened to all my herbs, Lori?"

"Oh, that?" she chuckled. "It was such an eyesore, so I asked the guards to uproot everything, soon they're coming to sweep the place and discard the leftover trash."

Adam could no longer suppress the anger in his heart.

He leapt forward, grabbing her throat. "I spent my life cultivating this garden, and you dare to waste everything like that?" His eyes turned red from fury.

The only herb that could cure his sister had been ruined by this witch.

He was going to get his revenge today!

"Let go of me!" Lori choked under his grip, but he didn't let her off.

Adam suddenly felt a force hit him from the side, sending him sprawling to the floor.

"How dare you touch my mother?" Seraphina had arrived with several guards, surrounding them.

"Ask your witch of a mother why she had to ruin my herbs!" Adam got back up, ready to take on the men.

"No matter how many herbs you grow here, this remains the Hemsworth garden, and we have the right to do whatever we like about it!" Seraphina glanced disgustingly at him.

"Oh, is that right?" Adam yelled. "The same way you did whatever you wanted with my sister? You evil family! I'll not rest until I see your downfall!"

"For every bit of pain you put my sister and I through, I'm going to make you suffer 10-folds! Mark my words!"

A servant suddenly rushed in to report something to Lori and Seraphina. Both of them gasped, facing Adam with a murderous expression.

"What happened to my cousin, Adam?" Lori was furious.

"You mean that idiotic shopkeeper you placed in my mall?" Adam scoffed. "Let me tell you, I'm going to send him behind bars for tarnishing my mall's reputation and selling fake herbs!"

Lori's face changed drastically. "You wouldn't dare! Adam, I'll kill you before that even happens!"

"Let's watch and see." Adam said and made to walk off when the guards stopped him. "What's this? You won't even let me leave peacefully?"

"Beat him up and break his bones, I want to hear him scream out in agony!" Lori ordered.

A few seconds later, grunts and cries of agony went up the garden.

But it wasn't from Adam, it came from the guards.

When he flung the last man away, Adam took aggressive steps towards Lori who was now unable to talk. "You can do better then sending those weaklings after me!"

"Don't you touch my mother!" Seraphina tried to get in the way but Adam only scoffed.

"I'll let you both off for now, today isn't your day of retribution!"

And with that, he left the Hemsworth mansion.

Adam returned to the Hundred Herb Mall, slightly heartbroken and worried. Where else would he find a King Lotus to treat his sister?

A few customers were in the hallway when he stepped in.

"Please I need to meet with the divine doctor, my daughter is sick!" A slender old woman was pleading with Eunice at the counter.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. We're trying to restructure things here, so we are closed for the day. Besides our boss isn't around."

Adam was surprised. Were they referring to him as the Divine Doctor?

"My wife really need to meet the doctor, we only heard of his miraculous methods of treatment today." An old man by the counter was also pleading. "Please ma'am, she might not survive till morning!"

Other people spoke up as well, most of them old folks.

That was when Adam realized. The old woman he treated earlier had gone around bragging about his skills and nick-naming him the divine doctor.

He sighed and made his way forward. "How many people here need urgent treatment?"

About 8 people signified. Healing all of them might drain him but he had no choice.

"Is he the divine doctor?" They whispered among themselves.

"Our boss has arrived." Jude announced, "So please take your seat as we call you in turns into the consulting room."

Adam got to work immediately. Most of them had minor diseases which after being suppressed for a long time with fake herbs, was now exhibiting extreme symptoms.

He secretly channeled his healing energy into their body, while dressing the injuries, educating them on ways to get better and prescribing certain herbs for them.

At the end of the session, they thanked him profusely saying they were feeling much better.

By the time he finished with the last person, 2 hours has passed and it was almost 3pm.

Adam quickly had his staff close up the mall and hurried home in a taxi.

Cleo was in the siting room, mulling over some documents when he arrived.

"What's up? Is there any update for now?" Adam settled beside her.

"I've just reached out to the Head of Executives of Walters Corporations, Mr Richard. He was quite pleased to hear that the President would be arriving soon, so get yourself prepared."

"How am I sure he wouldn't turn out to be one of Roberto's lackeys?"

"I ran a background search on the man, he's someone that worked with your father while he was the President. He's loyal, straightforward and very hard-working. But nowadays, he seems to always be against Roberto's way of handling things."

"That's our man!" Adam was delighted.

At least he wouldn't feel so alone if most of the executives were on Roberto's side.

Silence reigned for a while before Adam spoke again. "You just announced some good news. Why do you seem so disturbed?"

"Cause of this." Cleo handed the document she was staring at to him.

It was his sister's death certificate from 2 years ago.

Signed by one Doctor Walker, the report said Amelia had died from severe liver disease and despite all the treatments they couldn't save her.

"Treatments my foot!" Adam threw the file away in anger. "Such an impudent doctor! Going against his preofession's moral conduct just because of money! He gave the Hemsworth a chance to murder my sister and cover up for them!"

"I went to see him today, and asked about the content of the certificate, but he was unwilling to talk about it and ended up throwing me out of the hospital." Cleo said calmly, but her words only ignited more anger in Adam.

Adam stood up in anger. "The fact that he's the Hemworth's family doctor, I always knew he was an asshole!"

"How was the search for the King Lotus? Were you able to get it at the garden?" Cleo tried to divert the topic.

Adam gritted, explaining all what happened after he left. "I'll have to keep suppressing her symptoms with local herbs until I'm able to find a King Lotus."

"Don't forget that the longer Amelia remains in this state, the harder it becomes to cure it completely." Cleo's last words kept ringing in Adam's mind as he headed towards his sister's bedroom.

On his way home, he had texted most of his friends in a gardening club to ask for where he could get the herb, but they all seemed have no idea. He even offered a lot of money, but didn't get any substantial reply.

Amelia was lying peacefully on the bed, her eyes closed and her expression less paler.

He replaced her drip with a new one, added to the incense in the room and even prepared a herbal tea for when she wakes up.

"I promise to cure you Amelia. I'll stop at nothing until you get completely better." Adam took her small hands into his, his throat choked by emotions.

"And as for the people that are responsible for putting you in this state, I'll make sure they all pay! I will stop at nothing in bringing them to their knees. That is a solemn promise!"

Adam caressed her hair once more and got up, anger brewing in his chest as he left the room.

Doctor Walker.

His revenge was going to begin from that man.

Adam got his office address from the file and left immediately for the Colorado Central Hospital.

When he arrived at the office, the secretary stopped him. "Do you have an appointment, sir?"

"No."

"Then you can't meet the doctor today." The secretary eyed him suspiciously.

"I need to see him right now, it's urgent." Adam tried his best to reply calmly.

"Dr Walker is a very busy family doctor. You have to book an appointment at least 2 weeks earlier before we send you a schedule of when he will be available."

"That must be a very big joke." Adam scoffed.

"I'm sorry but unless you are a member of a family under his care, or you have an appointment, you can't go in."

"Well if I can't go in normally, I'll have to barge in forcefully! I must meet that shameless doctor today!"
