VESSEL OF AN ANCIENT GOD Chapter 31
The sky’s shadow grew bigger; its thick chunks of flesh travelled from opposite sides to gather in one accord as they cast their shadows over the heat from the light above. Doctor Haishi Aang looked up to the realization of the obvious eventuality that awaited this gathering in the sky. It was a new day and he was still far away from his destination. The road was a deserted road plied by mostly raiders and warriors. It was rare for any one person to travel the lonely road all by himself. He knew it would take a long time to travel and that was why he decided to take the shorter, less solely travelled road. He hoped he would be back to the academy in time to save the kids.‘You still need to persuade Oz to follow you back to the school.’ His mind reminded him of how much work still awaited him.He heaved a sigh; he had forgotten how much strength would be needed to persuade the wizard to join him in his journey back to Godlinkers High. He had been overwhelmed with the journey so far
VESSEL OF AN ANCIENT GOD Chapter 32
A loud chatter from far away chiseled into Doctor Haishi’s ears. His eyes overcame their shyness and let themselves open up gradually. They were in the woods. Light beamed from three tents, while some people slept on the ground and he could see two men standing, mugs in hand. The fresh bones left to the ground to feed on, cups rolling in rhythm to the waves of new beats the wind produced, and the crackling fires that introduced to his nostrils, a sudden feeling and a new desire, all suggested a possible feast had gone down. Doctor Haishi groaned as he made to stand. His body felt overweight and restricted. He was lucky people came to his rescue before the snake had kissed him. He hated snakes, right from when he was a little boy. Why did they always have to move deceitfully? And what was the need for their tongues to taste the air? His hatred for the cunning beasts extended to its whole family of reptiles. Of all the worries that didn’t look left or right before crossing his mind
VESSEL OF AN ANCIENT GOD Chapter 33
The rain had stopped a few hours ago, but the trees’ inability to keep secrets would have informed you of the rain falling. Earth wasn’t left out as it became darker and soaked. The clouds might have given way for the sun to shine through the sky, but the lit moon took its time to shine. It liked the attention it got, so it took more time to soak it all up. The birds took to their heels as the tree branches were ruffled by the super speed of the doctor who ran for his life. His occasional bumping into things didn’t seem like it hurt him. His lungs must also wish to not die because they never showed their pain. Doctor Haishi took a halt as he listened to hear the sound that had just flown past his ears. The chirping of birds, the hisses he couldn’t differentiate but hoped weren’t snakes, tree branches breaking, the whistling of hunters... each sound, no matter how low they were, filled him with panic and fear. ***“It’s been more than enough time now to go after him.” Yoda made kno

Yoda ran to where the horses were kept. He peeped from a distance. His eyes scouted for Kokohashi without success. He looked at the horses, about three or four were missing. His breath warmed his face as he stepped out further. He saw Kokohashi’s back in the distance. He was riding on his notorious white horse. Two horses accompanied him from the back. He clenched his jaws. That should have been him. When he perceived safety, he came out fully from his hiding. He looked at both sides to check if anyone spied. He was satisfied with the results his eyes came back with so he marched toward the horses. The neighing and stamping of their hoofs got the horses’ caretakers concerned. He stepped out of his tent to check the inconvenience that caused their disgruntlement. A figure jumped on the back of one of the horses for the second time asking, his posture wasn’t good but he readjusted to ride. His vision of who it was wasn’t great so he dashed toward the horses to close down the spy.“It

“Hey, I know you.” Daichi pointed as he squinted his eyes to see the stranger clearly, “Yep, it was you.”The stranger cracked his tired bones, and without a word in response to the student who had just spoken, he directed all his energy and strength into conjuring up enough chaos energy he needed to go back in to save the girl. ***“No no no no no...” A voice rued the sight before him. He saw Tanya’s veins push out the liquid they carried. Her body lay in silence, hopeless, and... lifeless. He rushed toward her without any thought. He bent over her to check her pulse. It was still faint. He was relieved. ‘If I didn’t know any better, I would think her dying would be the best situation for the genius plan of yours.’ He kept on applying pressure on the body he looked to save, paying no heed to what his mind conjured up. He tried with no evidence of his pressure working. His face had become tired from worry and he was trying to focus his thoughts on the right things. He needed to

The loud slamming of the doors and the forceful movements of the trees outside filled Suke with goosebumps that rose like flour over his cold skin. His eyes paraded the room for the figure that had just run past him in a flash, but there was still no lead. He moved in suspicion, but carefully. His back ached, although not as much as it first did. A sudden swirling of black dust came through from a corner of the room, moving toward him. It roared but moved nothing in its path. Suke stayed in the same spot, wondering how it got in. He knew what to expect, so he fell on his face.“IS THIS STILL ALL PART OF YOUR PLAN?” The wind roared its question“Yes, My Lord. I need to save them all quickly. I need to win their trust. Moreover, I think you might be able to possess the boy’s body faster than we thought.” Suke responded“FASTER? REMEMBER I AIM TO KNOW A LOT MORE ABOUT THE LINKERS.” The wind reminded Suke of its plan.“Yes, and that is one of the reasons I came up with this plan. It wil

“Gotcha!” A wry smirk curved on the corners of Yoda’s lips. This was the perfect way to worm his way back into Kokohashi’s heart. He licked his lips at his unbelievable luck. The stranger strolled tiredly over the grass, walking in between scattered trees. His backpack loosely hung back. Yoda looked on to see the direction in which the stranger moved. He wondered how he didn’t see the horse tied to the tree. Must be tired. He smiled as he decided within himself to give the stranger a heads-up. After all, he had no horse to move with.Yoda walked back to where he stayed. He laughed ecstatically at the decision to come. It was the best decision after all. His smile was wiped off at the thought of Yiro for a moment, but he quickly waved it off.“He will love me now.” Yoda’s cheeks turned red. He took his sheath that lay on the ground, hung it over his shoulders, and made out to the journey at hand. He got to where he tied his horse and kissed it before climbing its back. “Beautiful g

“Hello dear friend” Doctor Haishi jumped up as the voice came out of the darkness, his heartbeat skipped a bit. “Wh—whaa...” Doctor Haishi lost his ability to speak “Or shall I say, hello... spy?” Yoda blocked the path of Doctor Haishi with his body. The slow sound of a sharpened blade clanging against iron chilled the doctor to his bones. His legs turned to vegetables and Yoda loved the fear displayed on his face. His sword looked short for how long it took it to finally escape its sheath. Yoda let his tongue taste the blade before swinging it in the doctor’s face.“Please please please please...” Doctor Haishi couldn’t say any other word. He drew back with every step forward Yoda took. His hands begged just as his mouth pleaded. Yoda clicked his tongue, waving his forefinger side to side in the doctor’s face. It was dark but the moon and stars rose to the occasion.Yoda was enjoying every minute of this. He wouldn’t mind putting an end to it all but he thought of Kokohashi and

Suke tumbled as Jiro dived straight through him. Suke picked himself up. He swept all the corners of his mouth with his tongue. He raised his head halfway, his eyes hid below his lashes, a veil of darkness covering his gaze. He spat out blood, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “Last chance dear friend. Bring. Him. To. Me.” Something sinister chorused in his words. His tone was like a sweet lullaby in the dark. Only this time, you are alone. Master Yonda dug his hand into the sheath hung by his hip. His sword glittered in the light. “You will have to go through me first,” he assumed a defensive stance. “What the hell is happening?” Daichi’s breath quickened. His voice cracked with a mixture of curiosity and fear. Zoa stared intensely at Kakashi. “Don’t worry Dai, I will not be like my father. This will be over soon.” Her eyes darkened. Daichi’s gaze spun towards Zoa. Words hid under his tongue, but his face communicated his feelings. A quizzical look like a detective thro

“Hey Zoa,” Tanya rushed to catch up with Zoa’s fleeting feet. “Zoa!” Zoa spun around. “What is it, Tanya?” She shot Tanya a glare. “I don’t like what is happening between us. I am sorry for anything I have done. Please, do not go on like this. Let us come back to what we used to be. I miss you. I miss my sister,” Tanya’s voice cracked, her face dropped into a plea hard to say no to. Zoa stood, rooted to the spot. Her eyes lingered on her, tears forming around her eyes. She opened her arms, pulling Tanya into a warm embrace. Her shoulders warmed with Tanya’s tears as they held each other in that position for what seemed like forever. They basked in their embrace, unconcerned about the passing gazes that fixed on them, the urgent feet that marched or even the touch of the commander. “Zoa!” She snapped out of her stare at Tanya. Tanya stood, her eyes still droopy. She rotated to a halt as she came face to face with Kokohashi. “Did you hear what I said?” Her head tilted. Her face cont

The gates opened and the people left their mouths ajar.“How is he alive?” “What is he doing here?” “What are those with him?” Yonda rode into the place he once called home. It looked bigger and better. There were new structures scattered on widened grounds. He looked at the place he once lived; embers of fire heat underneath the huge smoke that went up to the sky from there. Huge men vacated there with black dust covering their bodies. Yonda continued deep into where their leader stayed. “Hi. Where is Master Ji?” Yonda asked the boy from the top of his vehicle. “I don’t know who that is.” The boy said and then ran away. Oh, okay. “Yonda?” The musical voice that called behind him sounded familiar. He turned around to see Maika beneath a hoodie. His eyes sparked, the memory of their last time time together filling him up with joy. “Maika.”“I thought you died.” Maika whispered. “Why would you think that?” Yonda asked. “Um, my brother said you were taken by raiders and there was no

The annoying laughter from below him echoed in the back of his ears. He groaned awake, rolling on the bed. His eyes were wary of their new surroundings, parting slowly. He helped himself to sit back, leaning on the bed frame. His eyes widened as she walked in from the other room, her body drenched in water. Her eyes were suppressed under the heavy weight of beauty that crowned them. She wasn’t naked but there wasn’t much left to be imagined. She caught his stare from the mirror. Damn. What is that smile? That is beautiful. His eyes darted to the door flung open. “Oh, I see you’ve met her,” John said to Yonda, passing his glance from him to her. “She is quite incredible, is she not?” He strolled in without a care in the world. Yonda took his eyes off his brother, and back to the girl in front of the mirror. Her fingers clutched her shoulder, backing the mirror with her head dropped. She scampered off, back into where she appeared like an afterthought. “Why did you just walk in? You

“There is nothing more I can say, John. You two are going to be great men.” Master Ji drew them into himself in an embrace. “Great men that will be part of the stories of the new world. You do not have to worry about the unseen. You have each other. You have a week, prepare your minds.” Master Ji dropped his hands, taking his time to climb the stairs back up. “What do you think this is?” John marched towards Yonda. “Is he trying to send us away?” “This is not something any of us possess an understanding of. It is certainly a mystery. But he has been training us for a long time—” Yonda’s words were interrupted. “Never have been trained to go on a mission. Never.” John jumped in. “Never, I agree with you. That makes this mission even more important now. There is something hidden within that we might not understand now. But I do disagree with you. The master loves us too much to ever want us out of his sight. He came for you without blinking. Alone. The master wants to see something i

"Before you do that, I have something to tell you too.""What is it, Master?" John asked. Master Ji reached out to them to be guided up. John and Yonda hurried to his rescue as they took his hands, helping him up with ease."I can tell you, but I will rather show you boys what it is. Come with me." Master Ji walked ahead of them. Quizzical looks covered both of their faces as they marched behind their master."Where is this place, Master?" John called from behind."Be patient, my son.""Are you sure this is the way, Master?""Continue to follow me Yonda. Believe." Master Ji faced the wall, charging towards it."No!" Yonda and John rushed to pull Master Ji back. “What are you boys doing?” Master Ji dodged them, they dropped face-first into the ground. “Ow!” John winced. “What do you think you are doing?” “We wanted to save you,” John got up first, scrunching up his face as he held his waist. Yonda’s face peered from behind John. “You were going to hurt yourself. We had to save you.”

The gates banged. No sound forthcoming sent him into a fit. Sweat covered his face. He glanced over his shoulders, scanning behind him to be sure he was alone. His breath quickened. The gate crashed with his fist banging again and again. It gave way, and Master Ji's face peered through the opening."Where have you been? Everyone is worried about you and… where is John?" Master Ji stretched over Yonda to check behind him. "Where is John?" Yonda whimpered. "I said where is John?!""He is—he is," Yonda stuttered, pointing in the direction of the woods."He is where? In the woods?" Yonda nodded in affirmation. "I've told you many times never to go there alone!" Master Ji's voice trailed. Restless, he goes back and forth. "What happened to him?" He appeared with his belt.Yonda stared intensely at the belt around the master's waist. "Wha—what is that for?""It is an emergency. Now tell me where John is, and with whom!""He is in the woods. There are raiders there. They caught him." His voi

DECADES AGOClanging blades danced in the air. Their feet danced violently, shielding their lives from each other’s attack. “You seem to have gotten better. That is good. John! Careful with your wrist, careful! Left. Left. Stay there. Left. Do not run away, stay there. Yonda! Yonda!” A fresh breeze blew over his face. He followed her steps behind his head, sword in hand. The sunlight shone brighter, the spotlight illuminating her brightness more. She swayed her hips like she floated, without a burden. She turned, her hair spreading ecstasy. She smiled, and like a child in a strange place, he followed with a wide smile. His lips curved from one end of his jaw to the other. His spine shivered, cold ran through the blade pressing against his back. He swallowed, and his sword landed on the ground. He caught her from the corner of his eyes, the doors obstructing his determination. He turned. Slowly. “Put your hands up!” An order barked at him. He raised his hands. Footsteps closed in on

“I need you to tell me exactly what happened.” “We were on the road here, it was dark and we could not see anything. We lost track of anything and now, we are here.” The aged man glances at the other man behind him. He nods to him and the man nods back. “We have been expecting you.” Kakashi and Jiro exchanged glances. “What do you mean?” Jiro asked the man. “Your name is Kakashi,” he looks down to Jiro, “And you are Jiro Shoei. You lost your brother when you went to a mountain, and you also lost your friend some months after. Life hasn’t been the best for your loved ones. Neither has it,” the man turns in Kakashi’s direction. “…been for you.”“It is not a coincidence that you were both on the mountain the day Lord Zodiac escaped the trapped jar. Every day has worked with the prophecy. Your father, your mother.” He turned to face Kakashi. “Your parents. It’s all going with the prophecy.” “How many prophecies are there? Because I don’t understand the prophecy you speak of.” Kakashi
