The horse’s whinny cut through the silence, a plea for convenience with a mix of fear and discomfort in its tone. It was a loud cry for its rider to either ride or get off it. Doctor Haishi was jolted from his deep thoughts. He had to make a decision and he had to make it now.

His frustration boiled over like a pot left unattended, bubbling with a mix of desperation and helplessness, as he remembered he had no map with him any longer. His swearing words echoed his dissatisfaction to the ears of Mother Nature, a lost feeling that surmounted the herculean task ahead of him.

‘You have to make a choice now: are you going to save the raider who saved your life, or are you going to join the band to watch him die?’

His thoughts gave him no luxury in the morality of a second choice. It felt like he had aged a year on the spot as he filled his mind with thought after thought of scenarios and eventualities. A cruel fate of guilt and regret seemed to always end the thoughts that fuelled his m

The muffled sounds from the dead trees whistled past the hearing distance of Doctor Haishi as he turned to look around him for a movement. He had been moving on the hilly route with ease and although he needed to catch up with his troop, he was certain of his possibility of catching up with them. He kicked the sides of his horse to generate more speed to run past whatever made the sounds he had heard. He still heard his stomach growl in protest of not being fed; he was left jealous as his horse reminded him of the fuel generated from eating as it powered up the speed it ran with. Whoosh! A whistling sound of force-fuelled hoofs projected by the flash movements, crunching sounds of breaking twigs, and the distance covered in seconds were testament to the incredible speed and ground-covering that Doctor Haishi’s horse left in its wake. Doctor Haishi’s breath rivaled his horse as it paced up and down, his head turning back to see if anyone followed closely behind. He was pleased w

“He is awake!” rang through the tents and woods. “He’s awake” The guard announced as he ran toward the emperor who was resting in his tent. An outstretched arm stopped his lunging steps in its tracks, forcing his legs to shuffle as he bumped into the sudden flailing arm. He caught himself from falling, looking up at Tomi’s face scolding his lack of respect.“Apologies, commander.” The guard bowed his head to pay his due courtesy.“Why do you run recklessly toward the tent of the emperor? Do you have no regard for the emperor himself?” Tomi assumed an intimidating posture over the guard, causing the guard’s face to open up its pores in the production of water. “I am sorry, commander. I have news to pass to the emperor, I got excited. I apologize for my recklessness and disrespect.” His face remained a bow.“Ahh Mmm ah...” The pleasurable sounds of whores from within the tent caused a distraction in the head of the guard, as the droplets of water on his face were held up by the protr

“How far have you gone to stay?” Tomi voiced out his suppressed thoughts since they started the journey to where they kept one of Master Yonda’s men.“We are no longer far away. We didn’t want to disturb everyone with our noise, so we decided to stay a bit away for now.” The guard responded.Tomi had one hand on his sword which was in its sheath, by his hips. He looked around with cautious glances, registering every bird chirp and leaf number. “We are here.” The announcement brought the scanning of his head to a brief halt, as he relaxed his grip on the handle of his precious sword. The blanket covered a heap of bags on the ground, and he looked at the guards that were now up on their feet; a respect paid to their commander. “What is this?” Tomi asked the guard who brought him to the site that was. The guard looked at the floor to the person who lay there, he thought it was obvious enough. He exchanged glances with the other guards and through their faces, he could tell they shared

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the landscape. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, carrying with it the scent of blooming flowers. The evening was mild, wrapping everything in a soft embrace, inviting peace and tranquillity to settle in.Zoa changed her mind in the direction where she would sit as she saw Kakashi sitting alone in the largely empty canteen. It wasn’t time for students to eat, but Kakashi hadn’t resumed properly after the heroic efforts that had further crowned him with more popularity among the Godlinkers High faithful. Zoa was also done with her training. She finished up earlier than her other two fellow tutors. She hadn’t seen Kakashi all day so she looked for him everywhere she could, to no avail, until now. She was happy to catch him up in the canteen. “Boo!” she shouted from behind his ears, catching Kakashi off guard. Kakashi’s palms tried to cover the embarrassment he felt, but the rising and falling of his chest gave his secret a

“Where the hell is he? How hard can it be to find that boy?” Jay was probing while combing around the academy, in search of Jay.“He is your student. Wasn’t he with you today?” Tanya asked, not lacking much pace off Daichi’s strides. His nose removed fumes as he fired a glare at Daichi, “All of us cannot have student preferences. Some of us care more about the possibilities of what is at hand than emotional attachments.” Tanya was still for a second too long. She understood what he was trying to say, she had confided in him with a secret of hers. She looked at him with a straight look. She refused to be ruffled by his harsh words. “Isn’t that too much? Why are you so mean, man?” Kakashi stepped in, his voice carried a confrontational tone. Daichi moved in slow steps, strolling from Tanya’s face toward the direction of the boy who had the effrontery to talk back at him. His footsteps carried menacing moves; his body mimicked an intimidating stature.“What did you just say to me?” Da

Jay scoffed. He was finding that hard to believe. There are too many cases of Kakashi being inconsiderate for him to consider him as a true friend. He shrugged, “Maybe.” Daichi narrowed his eyes, dragging them slowly across Tanya’s face. “Did you, do it? That is all we want to know.” He probed Jay“I said I didn’t do it. Now you all are beginning to make me angry.” Jay’s eyes were darkening, his eyes blazed with fire and a fierce scowl.Kakashi’s eyes widened like he had seen a dragon appear out of thin air; his jaw dropped. It wasn’t the display that got him so shocked, it was who conveyed it that made him astonished. It was a few seconds it lasted but Jay could tell from the reaction of everyone, except Tanya, that he had done something. He didn’t know what it was, but he hoped it wasn’t going to implicate him. He ran off.“No.” Zoa held back Kakashi who tried to go after him, “Let him be. He is not guilty.” She added.“Well, at least we have helped him find his source now,” Daichi

Jiro walked out of the canteen abruptly, his food still a lot left to be attended to. “Where are you going?” Kakashi asked, his hands flailing in the air, hoping Jiro would turn back, or at least, answer.Jay crashed into Jiro as both exchanged glaring glances.“What is wrong with him? Jay’s thumb identified the suspect of his interest. “I don’t know. He just got agitated and walked out.” Kakashi responded.Jay saw the looks of Daichi towards him. He had tried to look away but he couldn’t anymore. He felt overwhelmed by the judgment his looks cast on him. “What is the problem?” Jay voiced, casting his eyes fully on Daichi. “What do you mean?” Daichi replied, calm and collected.“You have been looking at me with that look. That look still questions what I already had to say. I don’t know what it is you expect or why you have so much faith I am involved, but I have told you the truth. I have said all I know, which is nothing. I do not know anything bout Doctor Hiro’s death, and I wo

The journey was casting a shadow in the mind of Doctor Haishi now. He was going to meet up with his troop, maybe. He didn’t know how long it would take them to be worried about him though. The emperor’s generosity was understated he thought. The emperor had offered to follow him back to meet his troop. He convinced him after he declined the request a first. He didn’t want the unnecessary attention that would be certain. It could draw the attention of raiders. He also didn’t know what explanation he would have to give Master Yonda now. The thought of Master Yonda immediately drowned his anticipation of healing Kokohashi. He had disobeyed the master after disobeying him the first time. “Are you not satisfied with the meal?” The emperor asked his guest who rode alongside him“Your Majesty?” Doctor Haishi was caught out by the question “I asked if you are still hungry, seeing that your looks have changed since the start of this journey?” The emperor studied his expressions.“No, Your

“Hey Zoa,” Tanya rushed to catch up with Zoa’s fleeting feet. “Zoa!” Zoa spun around. “What is it, Tanya?” She shot Tanya a glare. “I don’t like what is happening between us. I am sorry for anything I have done. Please, do not go on like this. Let us come back to what we used to be. I miss you. I miss my sister,” Tanya’s voice cracked, her face dropped into a plea hard to say no to. Zoa stood, rooted to the spot. Her eyes lingered on her, tears forming around her eyes. She opened her arms, pulling Tanya into a warm embrace. Her shoulders warmed with Tanya’s tears as they held each other in that position for what seemed like forever. They basked in their embrace, unconcerned about the passing gazes that fixed on them, the urgent feet that marched or even the touch of the commander. “Zoa!” She snapped out of her stare at Tanya. Tanya stood, her eyes still droopy. She rotated to a halt as she came face to face with Kokohashi. “Did you hear what I said?” Her head tilted. Her face cont

The gates opened and the people left their mouths ajar.“How is he alive?” “What is he doing here?” “What are those with him?” Yonda rode into the place he once called home. It looked bigger and better. There were new structures scattered on widened grounds. He looked at the place he once lived; embers of fire heat underneath the huge smoke that went up to the sky from there. Huge men vacated there with black dust covering their bodies. Yonda continued deep into where their leader stayed. “Hi. Where is Master Ji?” Yonda asked the boy from the top of his vehicle. “I don’t know who that is.” The boy said and then ran away. Oh, okay. “Yonda?” The musical voice that called behind him sounded familiar. He turned around to see Maika beneath a hoodie. His eyes sparked, the memory of their last time time together filling him up with joy. “Maika.”“I thought you died.” Maika whispered. “Why would you think that?” Yonda asked. “Um, my brother said you were taken by raiders and there was no

The annoying laughter from below him echoed in the back of his ears. He groaned awake, rolling on the bed. His eyes were wary of their new surroundings, parting slowly. He helped himself to sit back, leaning on the bed frame. His eyes widened as she walked in from the other room, her body drenched in water. Her eyes were suppressed under the heavy weight of beauty that crowned them. She wasn’t naked but there wasn’t much left to be imagined. She caught his stare from the mirror. Damn. What is that smile? That is beautiful. His eyes darted to the door flung open. “Oh, I see you’ve met her,” John said to Yonda, passing his glance from him to her. “She is quite incredible, is she not?” He strolled in without a care in the world. Yonda took his eyes off his brother, and back to the girl in front of the mirror. Her fingers clutched her shoulder, backing the mirror with her head dropped. She scampered off, back into where she appeared like an afterthought. “Why did you just walk in? You

You do not have to worry about the unseen. You have each other. You have a week, prepare your minds.” Master Ji dropped his hands, taking his time to climb the stairs back up. “What do you think this is?” John marched towards Yonda. “Is he trying to send us away?” “This is not something any of us possess an understanding of. It is certainly a mystery. But he has been training us for a long time—” Yonda’s words were interrupted. “Never have been trained to go on a mission. Never.” John jumped in. “Never, I agree with you. That makes this mission even more important now. There is something hidden within that we might not understand now. But I do disagree with you. The master loves us too much to ever want us out of his sight. He came for you without blinking. Alone. The master wants to see something i

Master Ji stretched over Yonda to check behind him. "Where is John?" Yonda whimpered. "I said where is John?!""He is—he is," Yonda stuttered, pointing in the direction of the woods."He is where?
