Chapter 12, The first test.

City Rose, interior.

Elias, Kuluwa and Geoffrey stood before a massive black gate, the top of the gate had a black rose edged at the top and the black steel the gate was forged from gave the academy an ancient and heavy air, and the fact that barely anybody is sighted around the area or even walking in and out of the gate added an ominous vibe to the already cold exterior of the magic academy.

The person amongst the trio with the most exaggerated expression had to be Geoffrey, he’s mouth looked like it was about to suck in a river as he marveled in awe.

“So should we go in or?”.

“Let’s go”. Elias answered Geoffrey without any hesitation, he seemed so determined that Kuluwa had to give him a second look.

...

The interior of the academy wasn’t as big as they expected, in-fact they only saw one or two buildings in site, and in front a slightly less disappointing building that seemed like a reception of some sort.

The trio didn’t waste time mincing words and went straight in.

The first thing that appeared in their line of sight was a desk with a blue orb sitting on top it and a lady, the receptionist waiting patiently for the next kid to enroll, and besides her stood a man in a brown uniform and a beret similar to hers.

“Welcome to the academy, pls submit your files and proceed to take the mana accession test which is designed to display the type of mage you are. Don’t ask any questions am not a teacher but a soldier so just do as you’re told and move on to the next phase of your enrollment and if you’re not a mage you came to the wrong reception and just pls get out of my life”.

The lady at the reception said apathetically with a gloomy cloud hovering over her head.

“Here you go Mr”.

Kuluwa was the first to hand over her file to the man standing, before moving towards the desk and gently placing her hands on the orb.

The orb lit up for a moment before a little transparent list materialized, the lazy looking lady glanced down at the list and said in a slow and annoying manner.

“Mage confirmed, attribute non, unique mage confirmed, ability Limitless mana”.

The lazy woman had a raised eye brow by the time she finished calling out Kuluwa’s stats.

“Endless mana”. The man besides her said slowly, clearly such a unique ability is quite rare, in-fact they’ve never heard of anyone with such a unique ability before, but they’ve seen many talents that seemed all powerful but ended up dying before even learning how to utilize that talent, so they decided to just move on.

“Next”. The lady reverted back to her lazy half assed tone of voice.

Next up was Geoffrey.

He handed he’s papers to the man and just like Kuluwa he placed he’s hands on the orb.

“Mage confirmed, attribute non, unique mage confirmed, ability physical enhancement”.

“Mm, you’ve the ability to enhance your physique with the mana you have within you”.

Geoffrey immediately nodded obediently, seeing as the lady spoke to him he automatically assumed that he was a powerful and rare type, of course he was but he definitely had the wrong idea as she crushed he’s hope just as fast as she gave it.

“So a meat shield then, hopefully they’ll find some use for you, if you graduate that is”.

Geoffreys smiling face immediately withered up before falling away and following the wind.

“Next”. The lady once more called out.

Elias was next, and just like the others he handed he’s documents to the man to be checked before going over to face the lazy woman.

The woman glanced up at Elias and seemed a little pleased, mostly because of he’s good-looks and heavy build.

“Place your hand on the orb”.

The woman even felt the need to speak to him directly, seeming as he was easy on the eyes compared to the last man.

“Stop”.

just as Elias was about to touch the orb the soldier standing besides the lady said while looking at Elias with a peculiar look in he’s eyes.

“There’s no need for the mage test, let’s just move on to the second test site”.

The man said in a single breath.

“Ohm, Why did you say we should stop?”. The lady asked lazily.

The man looked away from Elias before focusing he’s gaze at the lazy receptionist.

“Non of your business, if I say he doesn’t have to take the test then he simply doesn’t have to”.

The room went quite for several seconds before she replied with a single word.

“Right”.

The trio were awed, they knew the military academy for mages was a no nonsense military school but they didn’t think someone with a barely a rank higher than the other can just speak so uncouthly to the other like that, they kinda felt awkward about being in presence of a scolding.

“Come on, let’s move on”. The man said before walking into the dark hallway behind the reception, and the trio didn’t waste anytime before following behind him.

Meanwhile the woman simply grit her teethe in rage till she noticed that a small status menu seemed to have popped out, probably because Elias accidentally touch the orb with a finger without realising.

She turned and was about to call them back before deciding not to, she clearly held a grudge at the man for being so rude to her.

“Let’s see here”.

The lady suddenly snorted in disdain after taking a look at Elias’s status window.

“Trash”. She said with a disgusted look on her face, but she still proceeded to read the rest of it.

“Mage pending, attribute non, unique mage pending, ability pending, acquired trait mana manipulation”.

The woman stopped after reaching the end, this was the first time she’s seen a status that reads acquired trait, in-fact it’s never even been seen or heard off before.

“Acquired trait... mana manipulation”. The woman read slowly as if to confirm she wasn’t seeing things.

“Ohm, O well, not my problem, just the useless receptionist everyone insults occasionally, hope they figure it out since they’re so smart and better than others”.
