'The patient dog eats the fatest bone.' There was such a saying that people commonly said. It was usually to encourage a person to be more patient and not rush into doing things because being patient might bring the beat results.

Most interprete the saying to mean that one should sit still while good things are available to be taken. What happens when the good stuff runs out? There'd be no bone left at all for the patient dog and he'll probably due of hunger.

But patience is not just waiting. It is the diligent approach to get something that one is after. The patient man looks for the best opportunity and goes after the best things that are available. That's patience.
