His Father-In-Law's Accident

William and his father-in-law headed to the office together, and seeing how fond Mr. Patterson was of William made Thomas seethe with envy. Now, he knew what he had to do.

Mr. Patterson's personal driver started to accelerate the car that he and his boss were driving. It was William's first day working at the company, and the first time in six years that he had a job that was much better than his previous one. His past life was very sad, living in poverty with both parents deceased. Furthermore, there was not a single penny of inheritance left by his poor parents.

"William? Today, I'm going to meet with one of my colleagues. Are you interested in meeting him?" His father-in-law asked, breaking his morning reverie.

"Of course.” William replied with a slow nod. Throughout the journey, Mr. Patterson gave him directions on how to become the CEO of the Patterson family's main company. He learned it very well and carefully. This time, he would try to prove that he was not a loser.

William was introduced to the employees and top officials at Patterson Asset Management. His presence was warmly welcomed by the employees and other important staff. He was going to take over his father-in-law's position as CEO of the Patterson family's parent company, with Mr. Patterson becoming the founder with the largest shareholder status in Patterson Asset Management. Not only that, but his father-in-law will also give him a percentage of his shares and he will become the second-largest shareholder after his father-in-law.

His appointment as CEO was carried out today, which may have seemed sudden. However, this was Mr. Patterson's decision. Now, William is officially the CEO of the Patterson family's parent company. The ceremony was attended by some of his father-in-law's colleagues, and they all appeared to congratulate William at the time. Shortly thereafter, the Patterson family came to the office to witness William's appointment as CEO of their family's company.

"Congratulations, William," his mother-in-law congratulated him in front of the guests to create a positive impression.

"Don't get too happy, William. If you can't manage this company well, I will kill you right away!" Mrs. Patterson whispered in William's ear, her words making William's hair stand on end. How terrifying the threat from his mother-in-law was.

"Finally, a loser becomes the CEO of the largest company in Melbourne." Nikki, Mr. Patterson's second daughter, also came with her mother and older sister, Arianna. She also seemed to belittle her brother-in-law.

"My husband should have been the one to take your position, not a loser like you!" Arianna seemed to hate William. The arrogant woman did not want her father's position to be given to William instead.

Hearing their jeers made William feel small and disheartened. However, accidentally a man bumped into him and spilled his drink right on William's suit.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that." The man who bumped into William looked panicked for causing a little mess. William didn't mind, he quickly took off his suit and unbuttoned his wet shirt a bit.

As he caught a glimpse of William's chest, the man who bumped into him seemed to be observing it. A wound on his chest caught the middle-aged man's attention. It was intentionally made by someone so they could find William in the future.

"Excuse me, sir. May I ask you a question?" The middle-aged man then asked, feeling awkward for having dirtied William's clothes at his important event. William answered with a slight nod, "Sure, sir." However, before the middle-aged man could ask, Mr. Patterson asked William for permission to excuse himself for a moment because of an urgent matter.

"That wound on your chest..." The formally clothes middle-aged man with his black suit asked. However, before he could continue his question, William explained his wound.

"I've had this wound since I was a child..." The abstract-shaped wound has been there since he was five years old. William couldn't even remember clearly who made the wound on his chest that left a mark until now. The bald-headed middle-aged man stared at him intently.

"Are you from Moonee Valley village?"

"Yes, I was raised there. But after my parents passed away, I left Moonee Valley and moved to Melbourne." Actually, he didn't want to remember his bad past. Because, since he was a child, his life had been very difficult.

Hearing William's explanation, the man was shocked and the glass in his hand flew and shattered.

"Sir? Are you okay?" William walked towards the middle-aged man he didn't know, but the man immediately hugged him tightly. Making William feel confused, he quickly released the warm embrace from the unfamiliar man.

"What's going on, Sir?" He asked with a puzzled look. The middle-aged man said, "You are the young Sir I have been looking for." His face looked happy, finally, his search for his employer's only son had ended.

"Maybe you have the wrong person. How could it be ..." Not long after, his phone vibrated in his pants pocket. William immediately grabbed his phone and answered a call from the Patterson family's private driver named Mr. Simmons.

"Hold on, Sir." He stepped back a bit from the middle-aged man when he was about to talk to Mr. Simmons.

"Sir?! Mr. Patterson and I had an accident. Please help us, Sir!" Mr. Simmons' voice sounded panicked through the phone. Instantly, William was silenced and his body felt stiff as if lightning was striking him. Even his phone flew out of his grip and fell to the flooring.

The man quickly picked up his dropped phone, the call from Mr. Simmons was still connected. He immediately asked Mr. Simmons to tell him where he was at the moment. After learning the whereabouts of his father-in-law, he quickly informed his mother-in-law, Nikki, and Arianna.

"Dad's been in an accident! He's at the hospital, we have to go there now!"

Hearing it alone already shocked the three women, and they immediately went to St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne where Mr. Patterson was taken.

"Oh my God! How could this happen?"
