Chapter five

"Yes madam." the maid answered.

"Okay. You can leave." Mom said to the maid. The maid left and mom turned to dad.

"You can sit down now." Mom told dad and he sat.

"Why did the maid need to disinfect the sofa?" Dad asked mom as she sat beside him and I sat on a different sofa.

"Tamira brought in some filth earlier today." Mom said.

'What filth?" Dad asked.

Knowing that mom was referring to Devon, I had to oppose immediately. "Devon is a human being, not filth mom," I said to her.

"Yes, a very dirty human being." Mom said.

"You brought someone inside the mansion in my absence?" Dad asked me.

"And not just anyone dear. Tamira brought a poor dirty nobody into the mansion. He didn't even have any footwear on. He left his footprints everywhere." Mom said.

Dad ignored her.

"Why?" he asked me.

"Dad, I hit him with my car by accident and that's why I brought him inside. Just to help him out and make sure he was okay. We are friends now." I explained.

"That was very sweet of you dear. I am proud to call you my daughter." Dad said.

"What?!" Mom exclaimed.

"Are you going to support that?!" Mom questioned dad.

"Why not? She is doing the right thing? And what's wrong with her making friends?" Dad replied to mom.

"Nothing. As long as it is people of her class," she told dad then turned her attention to me and stood on her feet.

"I don't want to see you anywhere near that man or else you will regret it." Mom said.

"What will you do mom?! What will you do?! I can mix up with whoever I want and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it!" I yelled.

"Tamira do not raise your voice at me! I am your mother! I forbid you from going to the poor people's side of the city again! I will cut all your allowance and fire you if you repeat the same mistake!" Mom yelled.

"How did you know where I was?" I asked her.

"That doesn't matter. All I know is that you will not be seen anywhere near those poor people. You should know what level you are and those people are not quarter way up to you. We are the richest and most powerful family ever known. One day the paparazzi will take photos and your stupidity will dent our image." Mom argued.

"You aren't the boss of me mother," I said.

"I am," she said.

"No, you are not. You are just a leech feeding off of dad. Remember you were not rich when dad married you." I stated.

"Tamira!" Dad exclaimed.

Mother stepped forward and slapped me. I held on to my cheek, teary-eyed, and stared back at her.

"Don't you ever speak that way of me? I am your mother and I own you. I don't ever want to see that poor man near you again and that is final." she warned.

"Watch me," I said and went upstairs. I grabbed my handbag and went down the stairs again.

"Where do you think you are going?!" Mom yelled but I ignored her. I stood beside my car and was about to call my driver when something suddenly came up in my mind.

The driver. The driver is the one giving my mother information about me.

I decided to take a cab instead and I told the security guard to open the gate. He did just that and I flagged a cab.

The cab took me to Devon's place. I looked in through his window but there was no one inside, not even his uncle. Just then I received a phone call from one of my friends and I picked up.

"Where are you girl? We are waiting for you in front so we can all go in together." her voice sounded from the other side of the phone. It was a noisy background.

"Hold on just a little. I will be there soon." I said and hung up.

I returned to the cab and directed him to the club I was talking about. I still wondered where Devon and his uncle must have gone to. I paid for the cab and came out of it.

Thankfully, I was already dressed up and ready to go before my mother got on my nerves. If I didn't, then I would have arrived here looking like a mess instead.

"You didn't come with your car?" one of my friends who spotted me approaching them asked.

"No. I preferred to take a cab right now." I replied.

"Another issue with your mom?" she asked.

"Yeah. That same thing about me hanging with people my level." I said to her.

"You know, your mother isn't necessarily wrong." another friend said.

"Who's side are you on? My side or my mother's side? Let's just go in." I said to him, in an angry tone.

"Whatever girl. Just keep it on the low. This place is too dangerous for you to get drunk." she replied to me, knowing my weakness whenever I get angry.

All three of us stepped into the club with me in the middle and we instantly became the center of attention.

"This is way too easy." one friend whispered.

"It's almost tiring." the second said.

"Just pay no attention to them for tonight. I'm buying. Today's fun is a girls' night out. need to mess around with dumb guy's pocket tonight I said and smirked.

We went to the bar and sat there in front of it.

"A bottle of diamond jubilee for the three of us," I said. The bar attendant looked at me in total shock.

"Uh... Miss? That is the most expensive we have here." the bar attendant said.

"You think I don't know how much my alcohol is?" I asked, staring him down angrily.

"Miss, just to be clear, the alcohol you are asking for costs two hundred thousand dollars. Are you sure about it?" the bar attendant asked me and I raised my hand to slap him.

My friend held my hand down. "What is wrong with you Tamira? Just calm down a bit." s,e said.

"If I were you, I'd do as she says and quit it with the questions." the second friend said.

The bar attendant brought out my order and took out three glasses. He filled all three glasses and kept the bottle there for us.

I grabbed my glass and raised it. "Cheers girls," I said.

"Cheers!" the both of them replied in unison. For a while, we sat and just enjoyed the booming music but then two rich-looking men came and offered my friends to dance. They both took the hands of the guys and said they'd be back.

After a while, a good-looking man dressed in a suit that screamed a million dollars came and sat down beside me.
