The Game

The game was scheduled to take place in an old museum that was facing financial crises and needed to auction off a few of its paintings. The highest bid for a chosen painting would be the winner while the person that couldn't afford the payment will be the loser. All to test the financial capacity, Adrian.

Tony rushed back to the lecture room, he had gone to seek the school's permission for going out with the school bus.

"The driver is already waiting for us. So, we have to go guys" he implored his fellow students to follow him. Truly, Tony was also a son of a Billionaire and heir to a reputable company but his father doesn't support lavish spending.

"Adrain, it's not too late to back off. We all know you can't afford to visit a museum, talkless of participating in the auction. Don't you like how some respect was accorded to you for your decent dress today? Must you embarrass your ancestors? A fool like you doesn't know what the real game is about! Dumbass!" Rachel scolded him before she hissed and left the class.

"Why is Rachel giving herself an unnecessary headache? My darling can afford it and we are all going to the museum! Who knows, he may give me the item at the end of the day" Matilda giggled, wanting to hug Adrain but he pushed her away, making her fall on her butt.

"The more you hang around me, the more you disgust me! Don't you dare touch me with the filthy hand of yours again? Bitch!" Tony half yelled and wanted to leave when Matilda's voice stopped him.

"You are an ingrate! I've always saved you from embarrassment since you entered this school and tolerate your smelling busy but you choose to ignore me cos you now have money?" She lamented.

"Loved me or fake to love me for my intelligence? I'm not a dumb person again, Matilda. I've cherished you but you chose to betray me and also rub it to my face. Not only that, you also made me lose my job. Gosh! I can't believe you are this shameless and stooping so low because of the big girl title" Adrain retorted, not minding the crocodile tears that she was faking.

The students left the classroom one after the other, and Tony didn't cease to spit on Matilda before he joined his colleagues.

They all left for the school museum, chit-chatting all through the journey about Tony and Adrain. Though Adrain wasn't happy with the situation, he had to regain his self-esteem and also prove them wrong. By doing that, it may save other scholarship students from bullying.

He texted his grandmother on the way, seeking permission to use the golden card, while the old woman replied to him that the card belongs to him and he is free to spend it on his way.

The students entered the museum and they all received a warm welcome. They were twelve in total while others didn't follow them. They were taken to the hall, where the auction would be taking place.

Two paintings were unveiled and Tony rushed to pick the one that suited his taste better. The rules were given to them before the game finally began.

"I'll pay one million dollars for the print, '' Tony started, flaunting his black card.

"I'll pay five million dollars," Adrain added, in a very sweet and calm voice.

"What?"

"For a paint?"

"Where did you get the money?"

Students were murmuring to the amazement of his Achievement.

"Hope you are sure you didn't steal the money?" Tony inquired, stunned too.

"Will you go ahead or I should take the painting?" That was what Adrain used to respond.

Tony was already sweating, despite the ventilation. He knew his father is always calculative and may not take it lightly with him.

"I'll pay fifteen million dollars, '' Tony offered again.

"Jeez! Though you will take the bid to Billions of dollars" Adrain mocked.

"I'll pay fifty million dollars," Adrain added, smiling inwardly when he noticed the expression on Tony's face. He was surprised that the almighty Tony wouldn't be able to spend much, despite making a mouth In the school.

"Do you think the painting is worth the money? Who exactly are you to be spending such a huge amount on the ordinary painting" Tony questioned, letting our hot breath lose the two first buttons of his shirt and closing his eyes in frustration. He was going too far but wasn't ready to give up.

"I'll pay one hundred million dollars" he uttered again but in a low tone.

"Let me stop beating around the bush since I need to read. I'll pay five hundred million and I think that should be the final. Kindly pack the printing and deliver it to the orphanage on my behalf" Adrain said, in a more authorized tone.

"What the heck! Five hundred thousand dollars?" The audience screamed about the progress. They may come from rich families but spending the huge amount of money that will be donated to the orphanage Is like a waste to them.

"Continue buddy, I still have a lot to spend," Adrain added, not minding the murmurs from the audience.

Tony was already panting heavily. He opened his mouth to talk but words failed him. He took another breath, hoping all that was happiness was a dream, and was already planning never to try it if it happened to turn into his fantasy.

"I can't believe you are giving up this soon" Adrain let out a devilish laugh, which annoyed Tony the most.

Tony's phone began to ring and it was with one of his friends. The person picked up the call and handed over it to him.

"Hello Dad" Tony greeted.

"Have you gone nuts? How many times have I warned you not to spend lavishly? I got a call that you are participating in some unnecessary auction at the museum. If care isn't taken, all your cards will be confiscated" the man shouted from the other side of the phone which made the hall go silent. He hung up the call and was fuming in rage. The glimpse at his mates wasn't pleasant enough.

Oops! That's when his brain digested the whole situation. He was on a call with his father, not knowing when he mistakenly clicked on the loudspeaker buttons, making his conversation going heard by others.

His face flushed in embarrassment. He tightened his fist but couldn't make use of it. Amazingly, he ran out of the hall not minding what the aftermath would be. All he wanted was to save himself from the horrible looks of the audience and the rant of his father.

"Is there any other person that wants to play this game with me? We still have another painting that is yet to be unveiled" Adrain asked but to his surprise, none of them have the effrontery to tackle him.

The museum curator walked toward Adrain and congratulated him before proceeding to ask about his method of payment.

"I'll be paying with my card" he proudly offered. He brought out his wallet, then opened it to bring out his golden card.

Alas! The card was no longer there which made Adrain perplexed.

What the heck just happened?
