Chapter Twenty one

A hush fell over the hall after Christian's statement. The manager, who had been standing by the entrance, burst into laughter, as if he had just heard the most hilarious joke in the world. Christian simply stared at him, his expression calm and unreadable.

"Is this a joke?" the manager asked, still laughing. "Are you trying to make a fool of me?"

"No, I'm not," Christian said, his voice steady. "I'm quite serious."

Raymond, who was standing next to Christian, shot him a look of disgust.

"Sir, permit me to send him out of here," Raymond said but the manger raised his right hand to shut him up. Seeing this Raymond couldn't help but step back in shame.

"You're serious?" the manager asked, finally regaining his composure. He looked around the hall, as if to gauge the reaction of the other guests. "You're really serious about this?"

"I am," Christian said, his expression still calm.

The manager and the other guests in the hall stared at Christian, their expressions incredulous.
