Chapter 3: QASA

The QASA agency kept track of Brendan's day-to-day activities, every single thing he did was on camera. Drummond even made arrangements for him to be brought to the headquarters in Liberia.

"I need to know everything he needs in life. We can't lose this one for anything." Drummond ordered the team to check his profile, every record, birth certificate, and every atom of information they could get their hands on about Brendan.

"Sonia."

"Yes Sir?"

"I'm counting on you. Do not fail me." Drummond said to the research team leader.

"I won't Sir." She replied with a bow.

Sonia has been a member of the agency for a very long time. Despite her young age, Drummond assigned her to be the head of the research team because he knew she was capable. After Drummond had left, Sonia sat down behind her desk and continued watching Brendan very closely, through the computer.

"Mom, what's the matter? You look worried." Brendan said when he noticed the sad look on his mother's face.

Ever since Brendan's father passed away after battling disabilities for years, it has not been easy for his mother. She always tells him stories of their youthful days, how she fell in love and didn't care what other people said. Because Brendan's father was way older than her.

"Mom, your food is getting cold. Are you okay?" Brendan asked again.

"How can I be? You are graduating from high school in two days and there's nothing to celebrate with. You will need to go to college, where are we going to get the money?" She replied in tears.

"Mom, I have told you before to stop worrying about that. If I'm unable to go to college, I will just find a job and work hard. Everything is going to be fine, I promise." Brendan stood up from his seat and went to hug his mother.

Sonia stayed glued to the screen, she felt a deep sense of concern for them and wished to help them.

The night before graduation, Brendan decided to play the same game he was playing in his dream just before the screen appeared. Along the line, he remembers the analysis again and a screen pops up and displays [System on que]

This time around it wasn't a dream but still, Brendan thought he was just seeing things because he wanted it to be real.

The next day he prepared for graduation and went to school. The principal first gave an opening speech, followed by the school's head of each department. Some of the graduating students also gave their speeches and it led to the big moment where they all collected their certificates.

Getting to the end of the ceremony, Brendan is chatting with his friends when a delivery man approaches them.

"Good day, I have a delivery for Brendan Omar." The delivery man stated.

"Delivery? I am Brendan Omar, but I don't think I'm expecting any delivery." Brendan replied.

"Are you sure there isn't a mistake somewhere?" Damian asked the delivery man, but he collected the package to inspect.

"Yes, I'm sure of it. You can see on the envelope your name is broadly written on it." The delivery man pointed out.

"What! Wait a minute, is this gold?" Troy asked out of curiosity.

"Yes, that is worth 5 grams of gold. If converted in dollars, that's over 300 dollars.

"There is no way, this is definitely a mistake." Brendan laughed.

Afterward, when Brendan returned home he showed his mother the envelope and told her everything the delivery man said.

"This is strange, but have you opened it yet?" She asked.

"No, I thought of showing it to you first. I don't know anything, apart from my name boldly written on it." Brendan replied.

"Let's see what's inside." Brendan's mother opened the seal and brought out a letter. "Q A S A." She read slowly.

"QASA?" Brendan repeated, more like a question.

"I think it's a company or something." She stated.

"Well, what do they want?" Brendan asked.

"Something about you getting a free scholarship to go to any college of your choice!" She replied.

"What! It's a lie. For real?" Brendan didn't see that coming and if it's true, he knows it will be a big relief for him and his mother.

After going through the letter, Brendan realized that this QASA is offering him even more than just education, they are inviting him to work for the company.

The contract stated that he would be paid 100 dollars per hour he would work in the company and that got Brendan stuck in a roller coaster. Like how will someone be paid a whopping 100 dollars for an hour job? It sounded so unreal and complicated but he decided to visit QASA the next day as stated in the letter.

Brendan was picked up from his house by a stranger wearing a black suit with the QASA barge on the side pocket.

"Shall we?" The buffy man said with a slight smile while opening the back door of a black SUV for Brendan.

They arrived at the airport and Brendan got to fly on a plane for the first time, not just a plane but a private jet owned by QASA.

"Umm, so what is this QASA and what do they really want from me?" Brendan asked the buffy man sitting opposite him.

"Wait till you get there, everything will be explained to you in detail. He replied promptly.

Ricky walks into Drummonds's office and informs him of Brendan's arrival.

The private jet slowly lands on the runway and is parked in a large warehouse. Brendan and the buffy man came down and entered another car which would take them to the entrance of the company.

"Uhh, sorry I never got to know your name." Brendan said to the buffy man, politely.

"Wilfred. At your service." He replied.

"Okay, Wilfred. I just hope I'm not going to be sold out to traffickers?" Brendan asked.

"Hahaha. Fortunately, no. But I'm not promising you anything, kid. Seems you're just some special guy who could turn things around." Wilfred replied.

"Turn things around! What do you mean by that?" Brendan asked. He keeps getting curious every second that goes by. For all he knows, this so-called QASA could be dangerous.

"Kid, you ask too many questions. We are here."

They both came down and started walking towards a big glass door. "He will be waiting for you behind that door. Don't worry, you are in safe hands." Wilfred said before opening the door for Brendan.

"Ahh, here comes the man of the moment! Brendan Omar." Drummond exclaimed and welcomed Brendan.

"Uhh, thanks. You must be…"

"Forgive my manners. My name is Drummond, this is Ricky and this is Sonia. I'm sure you already met Wilfred. Brendan, I'm so glad you're here." Drummond said with a big smile.

"I think this is the time I know why I'm really here. I appreciate all you did to bring me here, but I'm not a dummy. So, what's the string?" Brendan asked.

"Of course, you will come to know everything and everyone here. I promise it's worth your time." Drummond replied.

Everything was set, Brendan had everything he needed and even more, but he wasn't comfortable so he asked Drummond for answers again, after lunch.

"Like it was stated in the contract, you will finish your education and work for me afterward. It's that simple, Brendan." Drummond replied.

"Work for you as what exactly?" Brendan asked.

"You'll be going on a trip on a spaceship," Drummond replied.

"A what? You gotta be kidding me!" Brendan protests.

"No, I'm not. Welcome on board." Drummond took a sip from his cup and stood up."Except you prefer your mom getting stressed over how she will send you to college and take care of the bills. Brendan, think about it, you are destined for greatness and I'm offering you that opportunity to showcase your talent. Just like playing VR games. I will see you tomorrow, have some rest."

Brendan watched in silence as Drummond walked away. At this moment he's confused about what to do.
