Chapter 9

Daniel got up and held Susanne close to himself.

"I cannot be mistaken, Susanne. I'm sure that he is our son." Daniel said.

Susanne pushed Daniel away from herself. "Daniel please stop! Stop messing around with me!" Susanne yelled.

"I'm not. Why the hell would I joke about such a matter as this?!" Daniel retorted.

"Fine! If so, then who is he? What's our son's name and where did you find him?" Susanne questioned Daniel in annoyance.

"Felix. His name is Felix and he was standing next to Lorenzo at the meeting. Where were you? You could have seen him." Daniel said.

"It doesn't matter where I was Daniel. What are you telling me now? Our son is part of a criminal organisation?! No! No one must hear of this! Not even as a rumour." Susanne replied to Daniel.

"What are you saying? We've got a chance to reunite with our son and it seems like you are not interested in knowing him." Daniel said to Susanne.

"Daniel there is no proof. You just made a meaningless assumption and that was it. A birthmark is gotten by many people and many birthmarks look the same. Why can't you understand that?!" Susanne yelled in her frustration.

"So that's what is needed for you to believe me," Daniel said to Susanne.

Susanne looked at Daniel questioningly, "what?" she asked Daniel.

"What else? Proof of course." Daniel answered.

Susanne felt her knees weaken and she had no other choice but to sit before her husband could notice it.

Susanne buried her face in the palms of her hands and sighed deeply. She raised her face to look at Daniel who was still standing.

"Honey. Do I need to remind you that you are the second in command of the spy organisation? For Pete's sake! Why are you so hell-bent on proving to the world that you are the father of a criminal?!" Susanne yelled.

There was a short silence between the couple. Susanne was about to speak but Daniel walked out.

"I don't care what she says. I'm going to find out the truth." Daniel said to himself after stepping out of the house.

Susanne looked through the window and watched as Daniel walked off.

"Oh no no no no. This is not good. Not good at all." Susanne said, moving about and panicking.

"Years have passed. Why now? Why now of all times?! Why?!" Susanne complained and felt her heart racing.

She was scared of something, or someone...

"What should I do now? Daniel cannot find out the truth. Not now, not ever. I'll be screwed if the truth comes out." Susanne said.

Susanne took out her phone and unlocked it. She went into her call log and tapped on the block list.

For minutes, Susanne stared at that number, wondering if she should dial it or not.

*In a far-off city*

Footsteps are heated and repeated multiple times, not by one person but by many people going about their business.

"Hurry up! The boss will soon arrive!" a receptionist announced to the workers in the inner part of the company before rushing back to her original position.

After a minute or two, a man with dark shades on and a suit expensive enough to define his status walked into the company.

"Surprise!" the worker shouted after he walked in.

The man took off his glasses to reveal his different colour eyes. One blue and the other brown.

"Who planned this?" were the first words that came out of his mouth.

A woman, older than he was, came out of the corner she hid.

"Surprise Sultan. Happy birthday." the woman said.

"I hate birthdays. Each one reminds me of how closely I'm getting to..."

"Shh! Sultan. How do you maintain the same rock attitude each year?" the woman asked.

"Get back to work now!" Sultan ordered his employees and they rushed in different directions.

"You are my mother. Why do you keep repeating the same mistake each year?" Sultan replied.

He walked to his office and entered with his mother following behind.

"Come on sultan, at least this one time do something other than work all day." his mother pleaded.

A knock came on Sultan's office door.

"Come in," Sultan said.

A lady wearing a white top and black pencil skirt passed her knees.

"Yes?" Sultan said.

"Good day sir. I'm sorry to disturb but Mrs Lorenzo's presence is needed," she said.

Sultan looked at his mother with a face which spelt out, "good riddance."

"I'll be right back." Mrs Lorenzo said and left Sultan's office with the lady.

Sultan continued with his work from where he left off the other day.

With his phone set on silent, Sultan had to place it on the table just in case any important calls came in.

It did not take long after Sultan did so that his phone screen showed a number calling.

Problem was that the number wasn't saved on his phone.

Sultan ignored the called and resumed his work but each time glanced at the phone it was ringing.

Sultan finally picked up the phone and checked it only to find that the unknown number had called him ten good times.

The number called again and this time, Sultan answered it.

"Hello?" the caller said.

"Who is this and why have you been calling me?" Sultan asked.

"Am... Am I speaking with..." the caller was hardly able to speak, talking less than complete the sentence.

From the voice, Sultan could tell that a female was behind the call.

"Speak up and stop wasn't my time!" Sultan ordered.

"Am I speaking with Sultan?" the woman rushed the question.

"Yes. Now who are you and what do you want?" Sultan asked, impatiently waiting for an answer.

"I am Susanne Daniel. Your father's ex-mistress. The one who got pregnant for him." Susanne said, through the phone.

Hearing her words, Sultan shot up to his feet. Just then, Mrs Lorenzo walks back into the office and sees her son standing.

"What happened?" Mrs Lorenzo asked Sultan.
