With a swift movement, Declan concealed Patricia from his view. The restaurant was big enough and somehow, he managed to get her into covering before Daniel could see them.
Patricia had told him earlier that her husband had no idea that she was coming to see him, and he did not want to be a source of trouble either.
"Daniel is here," he told her in a whisper. Her eyes widened in fright and he signaled her to calm down. He quietly led her back through the back door and into the kitchen.
Damian seemed to get a hint about what was happening. He was strangely silent throughout the unfolding, and Patricia was grateful.
When he was sure Patricia was safely out of the restaurant, he went back in to attend to Da
Declan took the first flight the next morning to his father's place. As he sat on the plane, he felt more fulfilled than he ever was in the past few months. His father wanted him to come to take over the oil business full-time. He had no intentions of letting anyone else know about this new venture. When he had informed Abigail and Hannah the previous night, he had told them that he needed to clear his head for some time with Samson. Hannah had clung to him in the airport. She had wanted so badly to come with him, but he had assured her that he had something planned out for them already. Abigail said she thought it was a good idea, to get away from the madness of the city. He had told Samson that
"Meet Samantha", Ferdinand introduced. "She's going to be your assistant here, and will personally show you the ropes around here". Samantha let out a small smile and stretched forth her hand for a handshake. Her hands were soft like she had not done any hard work in her entire life. Their eyes met for a brief moment and she seemed to be saying something with her eyes, something he could not place his fingers on. He knew that he would think about it for the rest of the night. She was tall, a perfect height that suited her hourglass figure so well. She was black and her skin tone was perfect for her beautiful face. She was elegant, and Declan could sense class. She worked in an oil firm after all. It spilled money. Her knee-length dress clung tightly to her figure accentuating her curves, and he wondered why she bothered to wear heels. They were other things that made him wonder. It was almost midnight and the whole place was still bubbling with activities. Not everybody wore wo
Samantha was waiting in his office as he waltzed in. She was scribbling something on an iPad."Good morning Declan. Hope you slept well?" She said without raising her head. He noticed she was in a sour mood, but he could not figure out why."Did you get any sleep at all Sam?" He asked, hoping to lighten her countenance. "Yes I did", she replied, her eyes still fixed on what she was doing. He decided to let it be. She would come around eventually. "We have about ten minutes before the general staff meeting", she said curtly, raising her head. Their eyes met and Samantha removed hers first. She could not deny that he was breathtaking.Declan was a good-looking young man, and she could not help working with him for a long time
Declan panicked, and Samantha saw how worried he was after the phone call."Are you okay?" She asked him, trying so hard to avoid hitting a nerve. "I'm fine.I just need to travel back to the city immediately", he replied, trying to dial again. "Don't give me that Declan. You are worried about something or someone", Samantha pressed.Declan let out a sigh and looked up at her. "It's Hannah. I think she is in trouble", he began. "She called and I answered, but all I could hear were muffled like she could not talk or something".Samantha looked fixedly at him. She knew it was Hannah. She did not know if to be worried or jealous. She decided to suppress the latter. Now was not the time.
"Who are you?" Declan finally asked, finding his voice. He had been staring so hard at the half-naked bearded man before him, and he could only wonder what was happening. The shock had not left him yet but he kept going."Who are you?" The strange man shot back at him in reply. Declan let out a wry chuckle and on second thought, he proceeded to enter the house, to know if Hannah was safe. She was his major concern, and she might be in danger with the strange man, who held him back."It's rude of you to barge into a home you were not welcomed to", the man continued, tilting his head to the side. He was a hunk of a man, a few inches taller than Declan, but his heavily built muscular body looked awesome."B
Samantha's solid voice filled his ears as he answered the phone. "Hey boss", she began. "How was your flight?"He was silent for a while and grunted a reply. "And hope Hannah is safe", she continued, ignoring his inaudible reply."She broke up with me", Declan answered silently. He could not believe that he was blurting that out to Samantha whom he had barely known for a few days. There was a brief silence."I'm sorry about that, Declan. You don't deserve that", she finally said. He nodded even though he knew that she could not see him. He had been oblivious to a lot of things of late."She said I could not give her the stability that she wanted to build a family with. It's my fault", he cried out. "That's not
Daniel had looted the entire company's funds. What a nonentity, Declan thought. He knew this day was coming but he could not guess that it was this soon. The company was closing down and the headlines on the screen did not seem to tally with what Patricia had told him was the problem. It still reverted to him. They made it look like it was his fault. He had misused the company's funds and took to his heels when trouble came knocking. Declan was disappointed. Even though he had left the company, his mistake still haunted him. He watched as the building was emptied, and a few of the employees were asked what they thought about the company closing. Many hurled insults at him, forgetting he was
Declan let her cry. Abigail had collected Damian from Patricia's hands and he watched her cry, her shoulders heaving as she went about it. It was irrelevant to ask her what had happened as she would not be able to talk comprehensively. He passed her a tissue box so she could help herself. All the while, he had been judgy about what Patricia's real intentions were. She had joined forces with Daniel in the past to frustrate him. Out of the blue, she was running back to him for help without giving him space to decide if he wanted her in his life or not. The fact that she was Hannah's sister angered him more. He was slightly disgusted but he would not let her know.
