Rhys gulped down the third cup of the Vodka wiping off his mouth. It seems to be the only tasteful and ease he feels as of the moment.
"I think that's enough" the bartender reasons, giving Rhys a pitiful look.
Rhys shot his eyes briefly as though calming himself as it didn't seem to work. He wasn't drunk, and a few drinks won't do the trick, he has had much more than he is now, but Rhys has it by composing himself.
He felt a hand placed on his shoulder while he lifted the cup to his lips. He paused, keeping the cup down before turning.
He growled seeing Blake of course he was here too. Mum would never let Angela attend gala's on her own without having one of the Mickelson brothers tag along.
Angela is like the golden egg of the family, she has everyone's love, respect, and protectiveness.
"Yeesh! You look like crap" Blake spat playfully, settling down on the seat next to his brother.
Rhys shrugged. "You're here too?"
"Of course, Angela is here after all." He responds to which Rhys nods, gulping down the remaining substance in the cup.
"It's really good to see you, Rhys," Blake says his tune soft, holding sort of emotions.
"It wasn't cool how you shut us all out of your life, you know. It didn't only affect our relationship but Mum's mental health as well. You know how much you mean to her, having you go against her and choosing a woman over her was not cool" Blake says each word of his getting to Rhys.
Yes, he did and he had paid the price dearly. If only he had gone with the saying, Family comes first, then maybe he wouldn't be stuck in the mess he's already in.
"I know. I plan on fixing things"
Blake chuckles, "How? With you gone, Ron has been handling things, he's not even ready to forgive or take you back. Dad is more disappointed than you could imagine" he paused, "And mum, you know you still have the deal on about not finding the right one and what you had to do in return"
Shit!
He forgot about that. He didn't see that coming all too soon. With what's happened with Natalie, Rhys doesn't think he could give them a second chance at love, that's not possible.
But does he have a choice? No, after what he's done arguing or trying to breach the agreement is not an option.
"Who is she?" Rhys asks.
"Huh?"
"The woman mum has in mind" he responds instantly.
"I'm not sure. Why?"
Rhys waved him off. He thought he'd have an insight but as expected he didn't.
Rhys heaved out a sigh, "Where the hell is this girl" he mumbled, roaming his stare around in search of Angela.
His eyes fell on some Familiar faces that had tortured him with mental abuse during his saga of finding true love.
He hissed at how he had let them torment him, taking every shit that slips out from their mouth all for love, and in the end all of that went in vain.
How pitiful.
"What is it?" Blake asked following his gaze.
"Nothing. Do me a favor and do a little research on Alec Freeman. " Rhys says wanting to begin things as soon as he can.
Blake nods, not bothering to ask why as he knows that his brother is definitely up to no good. He pities the people that had taken Rhys for granted and mistreated him, how sad they'd live to see their downfall.
If there's one thing Rhys despises and would never overlook, then it's being little. It's surprising that all this while he had been so tolerant coming from a man that is so impatient and powerful.
"What about the hospital?" Blake asks, cutting short the silence.
"I dropped that the minute I left New York." He replies.
Blake's brows furrowed in confusion, "What did you say to them? I mean what excuse did you give in doctor"
"I own the hospital," Rhys says, seeing as his brother seems to be forgetting that he's the boss of himself.
"It doesn't matter. Have you any idea how the news about your death has been running haywire"
Rhys snapped his attention completely back on Blake in confusion, "What?"
Blake bit his lower lip, "Oops, you weren't supposed to hear about that"
Rhys shot him a glare, "what do you mean? Talk to me"
Blake breaths out, "While you were away or should I say after you had gone against the family and led your own life, Ron had pronounced you dead at a press conference he had"
Rhys choked on his breath, surprised at his brother's act. "You're serious?"
Blake nodded, "I told you, Ron's is pretty upset--"
Rhys cut him off before he could finish, "Fuck him! That asshole"
Blamed placed a hand on his shoulder, "Easy there. You know you're not the victim here, right? So you don't have the right to be getting all grumpy. You've hurt us as much as that bitch has with you"
Rhys shot him a glare displeased by his words even though he knew what Blake was saying was right.
"So I can say we're even now" he chuckled.
Rhys hissed rubbing on his temples as if it was the only way to ease his tension.
Just then Rhys attention is drawn to Angela that stood in the middle of the dance floor with Austin roaming his hands around her.
Angela seems to be struggling to push him off as she doesn't look as comfortable.
Rhys held tight on the glass he held with his nose flaring with anger.
"Hey man, are you okay?" Blake questions following his gaze.
Rhys made a move to get up and go take care of things but Blake paused him knowing if Rhys was to go there things would get out of hand.
"I'll go. Relax" with that he walked there creating a distance between Angela and Austin.
Rhys watched as they spoke for a bit before Austin moved his stare towards Rhys that looked like he could disfigure the crap face any moment from now.
"Well well well, if it isn't Rhys Mickelson" Austin mocked as he reached him.
Austin Moon, one of the bullies who didn't let him breathe in peace.
"Hey man, we don't--" Blake returns, trying to end this before things could get out of hand.
One of Austin's minions pushed him back almost causing him to lose balance but Blake knew his ways.
All the Mickelson's learned martial arts at a young age. They grew up being taught how to defend themselves if they needed to arrive.
Someone needs to teach them a lesson.
"What's up with you and my Babe?" Austin questions referring to Angela as his.
Angela soon joined the scene sharing a knowing look with Rhys. The glare he shot her had her tear her stare off in fear.
Rhys didn't get why she couldn't defend herself and stop him. He knows Angela to be a feisty bullheaded that doesn't take shit especially not from men.
But then was he missing something?
"Oh, I see what's going on here. She's your fucking slut." Austin insults gazing between the duo.
His minions burst into fits of laughter angering Rhys even more yet he tries to burn down his rage by the glass full of drink.
"You fucking golddigger pretending to be some kinda saint-ish whore. All this time that you've been playing with the opportunity of having me Fuck you, it's all because of him?" Austin spat disgustingly gripping on her arm.
"Huh? What's the matter, you've run short of words. Normally that tiny little mouth of yours that you use to suck of Rhys fucking Mickelson's disgusting dick, is never out of words" he adds.
Rhys was losing it you could sense by the heavy breaths. He was letting Angela use the opportunity to best the shit out of him.
"SPEAK!" Austin thunders.
Rhys lets out a breath, "Let her go '' he orders his tune as calm as ever but the hard look he shot Austin could bury him six feets under that ground if looks could kill.
Austin let go of Angela moving to Rhy, "Or what? What are you going to do about it huh?"
Angela shakes her head from behind sending Rhys a pleading look, knowing that Austin was digging his own grave without knowing.
"Trust me, you don't want to do this" Blake tries to reason Austin out of it.
Blake knows how short-tempered Rhys is, minor things piss him off and by the looks of it, Rhys seems to have a beef with Austin.
It was a bad idea for Austin to spend a minute or two here without leaving cause his presence only seemed to irritate Rhys even more.
That's why Blake is trying to reason with Austin and save him from going home disfigured but then the guy doesn't seem to get the hint, he's hell-bent on doing what he came for.
"And you are? His minion?" One of Austin's friends spews mockingly causing all of them to giggle.
"What are you doing here? Parties like these aren't for the poor." Austin snared, "Oh and I heard Natalie finally called things off" he laughed out.
Rhys claimed his hands harder into a fist with barely contained anger.
"Leave!" His voice came in the calmest way possible huffing out a series of breaths.
Austin and his minions laughed, "Or what? What are you going to do about it?"
"Man you heard him, you should go" Blake adds, roaming his stare around as a scene was already being created.
"Shut the fuck up! You don't get to tell us what to do" The other man that stood next to Austin says displeased.
"We should leave," Angela finally says to Rhys and Blake, deciding it's the only way she could prevent her brother from erupting.
"It all makes sense now. He's your fucker boy that's why you--" Angela turned giving him a tight slap on his left cheek, preventing him from spewing the rubbish he had in mind.
"You mind your tongue" she hissed a sudden anger reeling up.
Austin stared at her flabbergasted by her sudden action urging him to retaliate but before he could Rhys held on to his hand clenching hard on it.
"What's wrong fucker boy? Don't want to see your whore getting beaten up!" He spat.
Rhys narrowed his stare at him flinging off his hands as though they were a piece of trash, "Don't you dare"
Just then one of Austin's minions picked up a glass and split it over Rhys head, "Cool off man! You seem hot" he mocked.
Austin and his men laughed.
Blake and Angela shared a look knowing there's no going back.
"You–" before Austin could form his statement Rhys had already sent him a punch landing him to the ground.
They all sucked in a breath the air suddenly getting. tensed.
He has crossed the line, now he will get what's coming for him.
"The fuck" Austin hissed getting up. He gave Rhys a flabbergasted look spitting out a pile of blood.Austin's minions made an attempt to lunch on Rhys but he halts them."Stop! He's mine" Austin blurts hissing, "Why don't you say we take this somewhere else? Huh? There's an octagon behind the hall, Let's fight it off, whoever wins gets the lady""No!" Angela instantly spat her eyes widening in horror. She took pity on Austin and didn't know who he was dealing with. If that fight does happen, only the god from heaven could save him from Rhys. It was a bad idea trying to fight him, it's not even an option Austin should be choosing."Fine. Let's go" Rhys says after a momentary SilenceBoth Blake and Angela interjected, "No! We should leave"They both shot Rhys pleading looks yet he didn't look like he was having it today. He's been patient enough. For two years he had to burn down his rage. Every emabarssment, torment and insult they thre at him, Rhys had taken it all because of the lov
Rhys walked into the hotel room they had boarded. He had Blake send off every person that was lounging in discarded as Rhys wanted a peaceful environment for the night. He didn't want to be disturbed or have any sort of disturbance. He's trying to recollect his lost self and get a hold of his emotions. He needed to rise back to his true self and not someone he had been pretending to be for a while now. Only now did he figure that most of him had been lost due to the impact of his actions. He deeply regrets ever giving love a try, thinking that true love could be found in a world like this was absurd and now he has come to terms with that. Sadly, he didn't notice till it was too late.A knock came through his door cutting him out of his thoughts. He had told his sister and brother not to be disturbed. He didn't need any of their support right, all he needed now was time to himself. The door clicked open revealing his sister who came in with a tray of food. "I brought you some food
"Son" She reached out for him, slipping a hand on his side cheek as a tear rolled down. The longing in her eyes is evident in how much she has missed him. Breaking into sobs, she pulled him in for a hugRhys stood stiff, unable to retaliate as he felt a pang of guilt. He has not only been selfish but a disappointment to his mother. He chooses a woman that has not only caused him pain over his mother."I thought I'd never see you again " She cried out patting his back. She pulled back from the hug cupping his face, "You look different" The way she said the word differently had him comprehend what aspect she meant not only because of his physical appearance. Yeah! He looks like crap. "Come" she ushers, leading him to one of the seaters. "How have you been my child? I thought I'd lost you"Rhys clears his throat having enough of the sentimental moment, "I'm fine mum--""No. You're not!" She goes against it, "Look at you, Rhys. You're not the same as you left years back."He sighs o
He stirred on the bed with the sheets covered around his body. Every inch of his muscle felt numb and drained. A sharp pain hit his forehead, urging a growl out of his lips.Fucking hangover. He brought his right hand to his head and mumbled curses under his breath."Good morning, Master. What would you like for me to do for you today?" Curella questions her sound, piercing his ears.He hissed, putting the pillow on his face, with a feeble groan. "No." He mumbled, knowing that if he didn't reply, she'd go on with her questions, which would only irritate him further."Okay, but you should know that your sister is approaching," she says. His eyes instantly split open. "Whatever you do, do not give her access," he warns."Angela has access to my security panels."Rhys curses; of course she does. It's Angela, after all; she always finds her way in and out of his affairs or belongings.Rhys could tell one or two things why she's here: either mom sent her to check up on him orHis thoughts
He clad himself in a sweatpants and hoodie taking one of his spotless watches that were arrayed at their respective positive. He was to have dinner with the family, if it was up to him, he'd rather stay locked up at his penthouse dwelling into his sorrows but he knew better than to go against his mother's invite, especially since it's family dinner, something he hasn't shared with them for a while. Rhys stared at himself in the mirror, the reflection of a different version of him that he never thought would come to life.He rubbed on his unkept jawline, scratching on his itchy beard. Natalie has not only ripped his heart and soul but has transformed Rhys into the worst version of himself. If only he had known right from the start. As observant as Rhys is, he wasn't dumb to be deceived so easily yet Natalie had proven him to be wrong. Sparing himself a last-second glance, he lifts the hood of his hoodie covering up before picking a random car key from the stack. He walked out of
After dinner, Claus, Rhys's father, invited him into his study room to discuss. Their usual conversation hadn't been taking place for a while now, and he thought they needed to catch up.Rhys has a feeling it has everything to do with the mission Natalie told him about. His mental state is not in for missions now; what he has in mind is nothing but vengeance on how to get back at the people who have caused him everything, mostly the goodness in him."Come in, son," Claus ushers as they walk in, closing the door behind them.Rhys took a seat on one of the seats. The room suddenly fell into silence as Claus walked behind the office table, pulling a drawer and bringing some files. He returned to the center of the room, where the seaters were taking a seat adjacent to Rhys. Claus placed the papers on the center table, pushing them toward Rhys.Rhys's brows drew together as he moved forward, reaching out for them."These are all the details you need to know for the upcoming mission." Claus
"Think about it, son," Mum says, placing a kiss on his left cheek. He nodded, his deep frown still etched on his face. "I will," he mumbled in response."Oh, and please do something about your looks." She suggests not liking how unpresentable he looks. He fought a chuckle. "That won't be necessary now, will it?"Judging by the circumstances at hand, Rhys is still trying to make sense of the mission and put the two together with his plans in hand. She laughs, "So I'll take that as yes, then? You are willing to do this?"He shrugs, "Maybe.""I believe in you, son. I know how overwhelming it is for you. Having to relive the life that had almost cost you everything," Mom says in concern. He hummed, unsure of how to respond to her."I know how badly you want your revenge, but you need to act smarter than you already are. You're the toughest amongst your brothers, Rhys," she breathes out. "You've always been the obstinate, nonchalant one, right from when you were kids. Sometimes I had worri
"No offense, man, but you should consider freshening up; I mean, get rid of the" Oliver trails off, shushing by the glare Rhys sent his way.He holds his hands up in defeat and says, "Chill! It was only a suggestion, but clearly, you're"Rhys narrowed his stare at Oliver. "One more word," he dared, his tune oozing with dominance.Oliver chuckled, getting up from the couch and walking towards where Lex sat, engrossed in the MacBook ahead of him."Alright. Roderigo's shipping company has shares in four companies that supply a lot more of their assets," Lex begins explaining, taking a pause from the laptop.Rhys lifts his stare from the papers that contain the profiles of the people he'll be working with, interested in what Lex has to say."What would you like me to do? Tamper with their mutual business relationship."Rhys cursed him off, shaking his head, "No. At least not yet. Dad has me promise him that I won't do anything just yet."Lex nods. "So what now?""I want you to have record
