Chapter 39

Sara felt the urge to ask the one question that had been on her mind ever since she got to know Ares, she hesitated a bit before summoning the courage to ask, promising herself to be okay with whatever the answer was going to be.

“Ares,” she called, pausing for his reply

“Yes, dearest,” Ares said with a mouthful of ice cream, dragging his eyes away from the tub to look at her with all his attention.

“Who are you? What were you to me before the accident” she asked at once, not wanting her thoughts to stop her.

Ares sighed, dropping his spoon and taking a napkin on the table to dab at his mouth. He had been expecting this question, but he could not quite say he was ready to answer it yet.

But he knew Sara was a curious and inquisitive young woman and would not stop until she got her answers, he a mental note to not say anything about her powers or immortality for now.

“It is okay if you don't want to talk about it yet,” Sara said half-heartedly she hoped he would say no and just tell
