Johnathan looked at the pen and hesitated to take it.
"What's the matter, Johnathan? Take this pen and sign on these documents" Zebadiah said with a commanding tone and Johnathan took it.
"Our family is the number one and only deliverer of Oat Stone, the most precious mineral in the entire world and we've been doing that since the mineral was first discovered. That's how we've managed to amass such a tremendous amount of wealth throughout the centuries" Zebadiah said as he leaned back into his chair.
Johnathan was skimming through the documents, reading what his role as the heir of the Cross fortune was going to be.
"With our monumental wealth that we can never exhaust even if we tried, what other way is there to spend it than investing in the creation of other very lucrative businesses? These documents have a list of all the businesses we have shares in, how many there are, what they are worth, and their ROI"
Johnathan went through the list and after a quick math, he saw just how much profit his family makes every year.
Johnathan's mouth gapped at the figures he was seeing. He didn't think money like that was even possible for one family to possess.
They make about one trillion dollars a year in revenue with a profit margin of thirty-five percent across all their ventures and that is thirty-five billion dollars every single year with a steady increase due to inflation
This was completely crazy to Johnathan because from all the companies he's studied about in business class at Primrose High School, that kind of money is what their revue is but for the Cross, that's all profit.
"All of this wealth will be under your name to control, all you have to do is sign on the dotted lines," Zebadiah said then netted his fingers on the desk while watching Johnathan go through the last document.
"I made sure to have Abraham provide you with the best of the best teachers in business during your stay in the hospital and it was for this very reason. With the knowledge they've impacted in you, you should be well versed in anything business management so handing things over to you should be a breeze" Zebadiah grinned
"Don't worry, as your grandfather I'll still be here to share my experience and knowledge with you whenever you need but before anything else, you'll have to sign these documents" Zebadiah said then sighed when he finished.
After some quick thinking, Johnathan dropped the pen on the document without signing it and faced his grandfather.
"I've gone through all of it and from what I've seen, I'll be too busy with work and running everything to find out who kidnapped me and put dad in the hospital," Jonathan said and Zebadiah frowned.
Zebadiah looked at Abraham with a scowl and Abraham avoided eye contact, looking away guiltily.
"What is he talking about, Abraham? What nonsense have you been talking about with him?!"
Abraham gulped "Well, late master Jaxon told Master Johnathan about what happened to him all those years ago. Master Johnathan has decided that instead of sending someone else to get the job at Wellstone done, he wants to be the one who does it"
Zebadiah looked at Johnathan "Do you think this is a childish game? This is a serious matter and you think I would allow you, my grandson and soon-to-be heir of my family's fortune to go play spy? What do you think Margret would say when she hears this?"
In guilt, Johnathan lowered his gaze "I didn't think about that. I was just thinking that—"
"You were being selfish that's what! Margret just lost her son after years of being in the hospital but as the heavens would have it, she regained a grandson which she used to think was dead. Instead of carrying out your duty to the family, you want to put yourself in danger! For what?!" Zebadiah asked aggressively.
"Yes, grandfather! As the one who was there in the car that day, the one mother got burns on her body trying to protect, the one kidnapped and made to suffer because of a poor upbringing, and the one who received dad's heart and will, it is my number one duty to find answers before anything else, and that includes managing all this wealth" Johnathan said and Zebadiah glared at him threateningly.
Johnathan wanted to back down because of how imposing Zebadiah was but he had to stand his ground.
"Are you saying that there's nothing I can do or say to change your mind?" Zebadiah asked.
"No, there's nothing at all. I don't care if you refuse to make me the heir of the Cross fortune, I'll do this no matter what, even if I have to do it myself" Johnathan said.
Zebadiah looked down at the documents then he huffed.
"Margret is going to kill me for this" Zebadiah mumbled.
"Huh?" Johnathan questioned, wondering what his grandfather was on about.
"If you're doing this then you better make sure it's done right. As a Cross, you must bring respect to our name and for that to happen, anything you put your mind to do should be done with a hundred and one percent effort!" Zebadiah said, surprising Johnathan that he wasn't going to stop him.
Zebadiah faced Abraham "Abraham, if he's going to do this then he's going to need your help and as such, you should make sure that you're always available whenever he calls on you. For that to happen, all of your current duties are to be put on hold to assist Johnathan, got it?" he instructed.
Abraham bowed his head "As you wish Master, I'll be of service to Master Johnathan whenever he needs me"
"Good," Zebadiah said then faced, Johnathan.
Zebadiah dropped his hand on the documents and shifted them back to his side
He said, "Since you won't be signing these just yet, I'll be keeping them safe for now don't forget that you will sign them."
Zebadiah stuffed the documents back in the envelope and returned them to his desk drawer.
"Before anything else, there are two things you should know concerning this arrangement"
"What is it?" Johnathan asked.
"The first condition is that I'm only giving you the allowance to do this as long as you keep Abraham and me updated on every single development along the way," Zebadiah said and Johnathan nodded his head.
"And the second condition Grandfather?" Johnathan asked.
"The second condition is that you only have six months to find out the people who were involved in your kidnapping or else this little excursion of yours will be terminated and you have to come back here, sign these documents, and carry out your duties, understood?!" Zebadiah asked, coming off in a way that shows he was telling Johnathan what to do, not asking.
Johnathan thought if six months would be enough for anything significant but that's the only time he has. It's either this or no deal.
Without having any choices he nodded his head.
"Understood grandfather," Johnathan said and they shook hands in agreement.
"Six months Master Johnathan, your time starts now" Abraham mumbled, staring at the locked hands.
After his meeting with Zebadiah was over, Johnathan left the study and went looking for Margaret like he promised her he would. Going one time around the mansion while he and Abraham were on their way to meet Zebadiah was enough for Johnathan to make his way around the labyrinth of passages this massive mansion had to offer on his own. He was easily able to make his way to the living room where Margaret would be waiting for him on the couch. Surprisingly, she was with something peculiar on her lap. It was a brown jewelry chest. “Grandmother” Johnathan called out and she took her attention to him, smiling immediately after she saw him. “Here Johnathan, come sit beside me,” Margaret said, patting the couch while adjusting herself to give him ample space to sit on. “You wanted to speak with me, Grandmother?” Johnathan asked as he was sitting down. “Yes, but first of all, how did your meeting with Zebadiah go?” She asked and Johnathan creased his forehead, thinking if he should tell
“The Blood Cross?” Johnathan mumbled as he peered closer at the necklace, especially the pendant. His eyes quickly caught sight of strange markings all over the item.“This entire piece is made from the purest Oat Stone and it was a gift from the founding family to ours,” Margaret said and Johnathan ran his finger along the pendant to feel what those strange markings felt like.“If you look closer, those are the faces of all of the previous heirs of our family. The last two are Zebadiah and Jaxon” Margaret said and it finally clicked in Johnathan’s mind what he was looking at.The faces of his ancestors on the pendant had seemed obscure and hard to identify until Margaret told him what they were and he was finally able to see them.“But wait, there’s a smooth space at this end. This part underneath dad’s face is completely untouched” Johnathan said, pointing at the bottom end of the upright post(the vertical part)With a smile, Margaret said “That part is for your face when you become
From the outside looking in, Johnathan was amazed by how beautiful the inside of the apartment was. Aside from his family's mansion, this was the second most impressive interior he's seen in his life."After acquiring this place, I had contractors change some things to suit what someone your age would be interested in Master Johnathan," Abraham said and the two walked into the building.Johnathan wondered what those changes could have been but he soon found out when he was taken on a quick tour of the apartment and what each floor had to offer. There was a gym, a swimming pool, a movie theater, an arcade filled with different amazing games and so much more. The last place they went to was the empty garage."There's nothing here," Johnathan remarked, confused as to what the room they were in was."Yes Master Johnathan, but this is where your cars will be parked. Because it's not that big, I decided to wait until you chose the type of vehicles you'd want to drive before having them mov
The two bouncers stepped closer, pounding their fists and glaring at Johnathan."No wait, I might have lost my ID but there's still a solution," Johnathan said in a panic as he backstepped some more."Oh really? And what solution is that?" The bouncer to the left asked aggressively."You have point zero two seconds to spit your solution out or get pummeled to the ground like a worm," the bouncer to the right said as the two slowed how fast they were approaching Johnathan."I remember what my ID number is so I'll just log into my student portal using my phone," Johnathan said then smiled nervously. Both bouncers looked at each other before looking back at Johnathan."Alright, you have one minute to get it done so do it. Know this, if this is another lie then you really are a dead meat!""Better pray for a good internet connection cause a second later and we won't hear anything you have to say" the bouncer to the left instructed.Johnathan took in a deep breath and then sighed to calm d
Johnathan grimaced as he leaned closer, getting all up in her face."Oh really? You don't know her?" He asked and she avoided eye contact."If that's true then why don't I believe you? Something tells me that you do know her and you're lying to me to protect your friend" Johnathan said and Shirley got irritated."I told you I don't know anyone like that so get the hell out of my personal space!" Shirley got aggressive and pushed him away.Because of how tall and more muscular than her Johnathan was, her shove didn't really do much but he moved back on his own accord anyway."You said this entire place was reserved for the students of Wellstone, those were your own words, and that right there was where she robbed." Johnathan pointed at where he made contact with the girl with red and black hair."What other proof do I need to show that she was a fellow student of Wellstone and as the Vice President you know or at least have an idea of who she is" Johnathan pursed his lips."I said I do
The more they walked, the closer and louder the music became and there was a door in front of them which had the bowling alley behind it.Johnathan could see colorful lights escaping from the cracks which let him know that it isn’t just bowling but there should also be a party happening in there.Whoever organized this must have paid a pretty penny to transform a regular bowling rink into a disco party but since they are students of Wellstone, the money should be considered a cheap change to them.Because of how close Johnathan was behind her, Shirley got annoyed and stopped walking."Why the hell are you following me?" She asked and Johnathan grimaced. He also stopped after hearing the ridiculousness of the accusation."Who said I'm following you?" He asked."You are so there's no use denying it," she said as a vein bulged on her forehead.Johnathan scoffed then he smacked his tongue."Listen here miss Vice President or whatever you call yourself—""It's Shirley, Shirley Price. I alr
The reason they were treating Johnathan this way was because they hadn't seen him anywhere around the school before and that only meant one thing. In Wellstone, the kids from the richest family are given their admission first and they are also given top priority in everything else so they are the first to start the academic session. The school would never admit that this preferential treatment exists but it does nonetheless and it is usually the students who enforce it with their actions. The later your resumption shows your level of importance in the school and with that mindset, even though the school is massive with thousands of students, everyone knows who the important people to look up to and respect are.For them not to know Johnathan only means that he either is just starting his academic session now or isn't that important for any of them to know. This makes him someone under scholarship or someone who's barely able to attend Wellstone.None of those two options are good posi
Johnathan was almost a whole foot taller than Zack was and because he wasn’t sitting and hunching anymore, his hoodie didn’t seem as big as it used to.Zack and his friends were starting to see that not only was Johnathan tall but he was also muscular and all three of him were speechless.“Hey Zack, don’t just stand there, teach that Welfie a lesson not to mess with people like us,” Someone from the crowd said.Even though he didn’t want to, Zack just had to show himself and there was only one way he could try to conquer Johnathan since he couldn’t attack him physically.“Listen here Welfie, as I said before, I’m Zack Griffin from the Griffin family and I’m sure you’ve heard of me. If you know what’s good for you, better let go of my hand right now or else you’ll receive a message from the school first thing tomorrow morning about your expulsion. Trust me, I can make that happen” Zack threatened then smirked.Johnathan shrugged “You can try but you’ll be surprised by the outcome,” he
