STATE OF BEING

The last thing Elijah wanted to hear was having to let go of Haylee. It was his worst nightmare coming true, given the attachment he has grown for her, and the feelings that have started to develop for her.

He refused to imagine what would happen to her if he decided to save himself and sign those papers, it would make no difference. He nudged the feeling, choosing pain over temporary comfort.

“You better kill me now,” he said in a muffled voice, with his face stuffed through the hard mahogany wood of the table, “I am not signing any of those.”

The tussle of signing and not had been going on for four hours, and neither of the men was ready to yield to the stubbornness of the other. Elijah seared into his, an unending desire to see the Greene family burn to the ground, but first, with the fall of Daniel Greene.
