Beginning of the Invasion

 Part 2A

"Captain Birman, I would like to mobilize the National Guard to help with the city security if you don't mind." "And Ayuma, Please call the head of the council, Mr. Enigma, and tell him to meet me here as soon as possible." At that time she heard a sound similar to thunder, or maybe it was thunder, but usably the lightning and thunder come for the sky with a storm or rain but not in a confide or an open space near the ground; the circle was actually above the ground and was almost two and a half meters above ground. From this distance, nobody was able to guess the size of it, but since it was almost three kilometers outside of the city and was visible that much from that distance, it was obvious that it was huge; everyone was able to see it was palpitating like a heart from that distance. The movement of the muddy cloud inside the circle was so ominous that everyone who was still standing there felt the chill in their bones, and whoever didn't understand the serenity of the situation before felt it now clearly. Still, they didn't understand alone what Emika was basing the decision that she took, but nobody complained or disagreed with her because, simply put, she was in charge of the safety of the whole country.

Not just the safety but also the security of the country. Although she hasn’t been in the position for a long time, just for two years, that was enough to show everybody how competent she was in handling her duties, and no one doubted her capability to handle her duties. That was why everybody went straight away to fulfill her requests, and no one thought about whether it was an order or a request. In minutes, the announcement reached everyone in the capital city, and all the ministers who were out of the tower came back in. The heads of each and every department gathered in one of the biggest meeting halls in the tower, which happened to be next door to Emika’s office. Although there was a wide window in her office from which she could see the portal, and the balcony was next to her room, she still wished she could stay on the balcony and keep an eye on what was happening and going to happen and navigate her duties at the same time, but that was impossible to achieve due to the fact she had to work from her office until the time of the meeting.

At that same location, in the unknown location where a group of people have been monitoring a huge countdown taking place, the countdown once more started, but now in the proper countdown usual manner, the last time it was showing like a timer that was going up unlike a countdown because of that, most of the people who were working in that place were wondering why the higher-ups were calling it a countdown. But today, everything changed. The first thing that changed was the color of the numbers that was red, it suddenly became green, and the numbers also changed; they were showing and counting down, actually, 00.300.99, 0.98, 097.096, and so on. Everybody stopped whatever they were doing and started looking at the timer, or what used to be a timer but now became a countdown. All eyes were on the screen, waiting and anticipating what was going to happen next, like every time there was a change on that screen.

"Now, what? It changed again; I wonder who is controlling this thing," someone whispered to the man beside him while still keeping his eyes locked on the countdown that was covering almost the entire wall. The whole area was quiet; there was not even a single sound. Everyone's eyes were glued to the screen; they thought it would stay the same for another few weeks like before, but now it changed drastically to the opposite. Everyone has an idea of what's going to happen when the timer starts, but here it is, it started, so what will happen next? That was the question on everybody’s mind, and as usual, there was nobody around them to give them an answer, like it was an agreement between all of them. They looked once at a room in the far end of the open space, where the lady who they call the supervisor office was.

At the supervisor's room, Anisa, she lifted her head for the pile of papers in front of her when suddenly everyone quieted down, and she noticed the sudden silence, Of course, the first thing she noticed was the screen and change that appeared on it. The silence was heavy when it was that sudden. What was more heavy than that was when, after a minute, she felt the gaze of everyone in the whole area on her or towards her location. She was able to see everyone, and everyone was able to see her at the same time. That only meant one thing, and that was that they were looking at her for an explanation or order. But the issue was that she had neither for them; all her job duties were to monitor everyone's reports and deliver reports. She was not like most of the people working here, clueless about what was going on; still, she had no idea about the full picture of the matter. She was aware that the beginning of the countdown meant the end of life as they knew it, and it was the beginning of the apocalypse. Yes, what that means is that it began and will end at the same time as the beginning of calamity and the end of life as they know it, and all that she could do here was monitor the countdown and nothing else. Why would they just monitor it if they can't do anything? That was the question she and everyone else were asking themselves.

She left the room and started addressing the over 100 people working in the hall. Regardless of her feelings, she knew she had a job to do. "It's time, everyone; it’s finely the time, and know, let’s start working and do our job. As you can see, it started; this is the real countdown, and we are running against time. For the last few weeks, we have done a lot, but we are running out of time now. All the time we have is what’s shown on that screen when it hits zero again, that is the end, yes, and the end of everything we knew. For those who don’t know, we call this timer the countdown to the apocalypse, and before you ask, all we know so far is that this world will change forever, and a calamity like none before is upon us." That was a speech that she didn’t prepare, but what she felt was that she said it at the same time she was encouraging herself with that speech also; that was all she could do at the moment. “To insure the safety of your family, everyone, you need to do your work; I don’t need to remind you that, I guess, so now go back to work, please.” Once more, she looked at the countdown on the screen, and then went back to her room and office because that space had been her work and living space for the last ten days, since she had been appointed to supervise this facility that no one was allowed to leave for the moment.

There was no stopping what was going to come; she knew that much, all what they were doing to reduce the effects or at least that was what she had been told. Now she has to send the report to the higher-ups. “I wonder why they came up with all these processes. They usually know everything when it happens, and sometimes even before it happens, do they have a hand on this? Or maybe they are the mastermind behind all this?” A lot of questions were running through her mind, some of which she knew she would never have an answer for. Still, she told herself to do whatever she could and finish what she signed up for. Once more, without another word, everyone started moving and kept on doing whatever he or she was doing before the countdown started. That was the first day everyone in this place, known only to a handful of people as (Section Two) will learn about things that they never thought existed, and after the countdown hits zero, a new era will start in this world, and a history will be written that they will be the witnesses for it.

In a secluded space not visible to anybody, in a space next to Section Two, which is called Section One, at the same time that the countdown started, everyone was busy the same way at Section Two. Here also, there were hundreds of people working, and in the center of it was an oval room. Everyone inside was able to see everything going around them in a 360-degree radius. Here, as same as before, like the first time, more than ten men and women were sitting, each of them looking straight to the screen showing in the big hall, and the hundreds of people walking around the area had in front of each of them a small device projecting in front of him or her some data, video feeds, pictures, and a lot of different things, feeds from all over the world, and now, a hundred times more than the previous time, under each one of them there were more than ten people working under them, and in front of each of them more screen than before also, like before none of them was looking at the same thing or doing the same thing. But all of them were able to see the same screen in section two, the design was the same and the size was the same; nothing was different than the one in section two, and as soon as it changed to the countdown manner, the same as in the in the other section, everyone put on hold whatever they were doing and looked at the screen.

The only one who was not looking and didn’t even bother to look up was the old woman who was sitting separately in a corner from the rest, with the same device in front of her that she had been looking at for the previous week, No one knew what the device she was holding was for, and no one asked or dared to ask Rohonda was the one in charge of section one, and not only that but also gathering the reports for the other four sections scattered around the world, but no one knew that at the moment in this operation they thought that they were the only ones doing what they did, Although she was in charge of the other sections reports and information gathering, she didn’t even have any idea where one the sections located, She was only reporting back to The Black Room, where she thinks the upper management was also one of the mysteries of her work. She was working for this organization for more than 10 years, but she never saw anyone from the location or heard from them; she only sent information to them. And she knew that they also get their instructions from some other department that she doesn’t know anything about.

She just knew that what she was for was to prevent an invasion of their world, that an ancient evil wants to take hold and invade their world, and that this organization is doing whatever they can to stand against the invaders when that happens. When she asked why they didn't work towards preventing it, she was told no one knew where the enemy was coming from. In the beginning, she thought it was just paranoia that was bushing the management, but with the years when she saw the capability of the organization, she believed that something bigger than an invasion was coming; all she could do was take her small part in it. And that way she could somehow guarantee that her family would live yes, just live and survive which was the most important thing she could hope for.
