Ch-3 : That's enough

Brother! That's enough, don't forget what I had said to you earlier."

Saying this, she grabbed Mark's wrist and dragged him to the garden outside.

Love often has a tendency to look beautiful and alluring at the starting days of spring in its life, when everything is okay, but once the summer of hardship arrives, it takes away all the beauty and allure with its scorching heat and blistering temperatures.

She led him to the white marble gazebo standing in the middle of the manicured garden, amidst the blooming flowers.

The fading sunlight was filtering through the pillars, creating a dreamy vibe against the dusky skies- but the atmosphere was tense instead of being romantic.

Cassie let go of Mark's hand and took a step back, still facing him. She broke the tense silence;

"Mark, please don't make things harder for me right now."

Mark wanted nothing more in that moment, than to make her realize how sincerely he wanted to help her, in any way and any capacity she wanted.

"Cass-"

But she interrupted him before he could even say her name;

"Please, just let me finish…

You know I only married you because of your honesty. And I have never asked you for anything, ever since the day we got married.

But today, Mark, I am asking you to leave me."

The words felt like something like a peal of thunder, or a saw- which was not only burning him on the spot, but also slicing his heart into two halves.

"Please, don't do this Cassie…

I really love you, and I know you do the same! Then why-"

His words got stuck in his throat as he saw teardrops sparkling in her eyes. She stood before him like a statue of ice, with her stern features visible in the golden sunlight of dusk.

Her expression was immovable, but her eyes… her eyes had never lied to him, and even now, the drops of tears forced him to think about how disturbed she must be feeling inside, that she had been forced to make this decision.

At last, he could only utter a single word- "Why?" while fighting with the urge to envelope her in his arms.

He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard her unrelenting voice,

"Mark, I am begging you… please don't create any more problems for me."

Without giving him a chance to respond, Cassie walked away angrily, leaving Mark devastated with her words. He just felt like he had just been punched repeatedly in the stomach, but instead of curling up on the floor, he needed to get up and fight.

One thing was clear to him - he dearly loved his wife, and he would have no use for anything else, if he lost her. He checked his watch as a plan hatched in his mind.

There were still ten minutes to five; he knew that Harrison Clarke would remain in his office till six, so he still had time today.

Without thinking about anything else, he climbed on his motorcycle and drove straight to the headquarters of Clarke Communications Ltd.

He rushed to the elevator and pressed the button for the twelfth floor, while checking his watch. He had covered the distance from the farmhouse to the office in just eight minutes, and he knew he just had to convince Mr. Clarke of the potential in investing in the Blue Mountains Group. Once Cassie would get the company on its original track, Mr. Clarke would certainly reap the benefits of being the largest investor.

The ding of the elevator alerted him that he had arrived at the top floor, and he headed straight for the corner office.

The lady sitting at the reception desk got up on seeing him, quite surprised at his arrival as her boss had already cleared his schedule for another meeting.

She scanned the person from top to bottom, he was wearing wrinkled trousers with black loafers, and his shirt was dirty and stained.

The watch on his hand had a simple brown leather cuff, and there were no other accessories indicating his status. In fact, he was carrying a black and orange helmet, indicating that his mode of conveyance might have been a motorcycle.

He seemed quite different from the people who usually came to meet Mr. Clarke in sports cars or SUVs, dazzling with accessories and carrying briefcases and MacBooks.

She decided to call out to him;

"Excuse me! Hello sir, do you have an appointment with Mr. Clarke?"

He stopped in his tracks and responded,"No, but-"

Without giving him a chance to say something, she remarked;

"I didn't think you had one, anyway.

Mr. Clarke doesn't just meet anyone, he has a very busy schedule.

I suggest you leave, he would not be entertaining you."

Just then, the manager arrived from the inner cabin and judged the situation by taking one single look, having heard the receptionist asking him to leave.

He concluded that this man must have visited their company for some food delivery and decided to roam inside.

Or even in the best case scenario, this delivery boy must have come here for a job, like hundreds of candidates every day, and had somehow reached the CEO's office after being rejected during the interviews.

"Hey, you! Do you even know where you are standing? Do you think you can just waltz into any building you like and harass our employees!

Don't you understand that she asked you to leave? Now, go back to wherever you have come from or go and beg for alms on the road, there is no job here for goons like you!

And don't you dare show your face here again, Mr. Clarke won't be meeting you."

He made no move to leave, but rather, calmly stood waiting for Mr. Clarke, as if he hadn't heard anything at all. Seeing that, the manager spoke up again,

"Now listen here! If you don't leave within the next minute, I'll call the guards and they will leave you in such a state that you won't be able to recognize yourself even if you spend the whole day in front of a mirror!

Claudia, please have the security personnel on the line, this young man needs to be taught a lesson."

Mark directed a cold glare towards the arrogant manager and stepped out into the gallery without saying a single word.

He took out his phone from his pants pocket and dialed a number.

As soon as the other person picked up, he said, "I want you to buy 51% shares of Clarke Communications Ltd.

Scratch that- make it 70%, and wrap it up within the next five minutes."
