Ch-4 : Who is he ?

As soon as the receptionist overheard the words that the ordinary- looking person had spoken on the phone, she panicked.

Was this guy serious about buying the company shares! Had she really misjudged somebody who was capable of doing this?

Freaking out about what would happen if he was speaking the truth, she immediately picked up the receiver and pressed the speed dial for Mr Clarke's desk phone.

"Sir! Sorry to disturb you, sir, but there is a critical situation.

Someone has been here for a few minutes now, and he insists on meeting you.

I refused him repeatedly, but just now, he said to someone on the phone that our company shares will be bought within five minutes.

Please let me know how I should proceed now.

Sir, should I send him in to meet you?"

The CEO, who was busy with an important online conference in his cabin, had specifically asked the receptionist to not let anyone in and to only contact him under emergencies.

He was naturally annoyed on hearing about this, and responded,

"Is this some kind of a joke?

You're not getting paid by the company just to let any insane rando walk into the office and make such silly threats!

Just handle it for me."

He slammed the receiver and hung up the call, planning to resume his prior meeting. But just at that moment, his cellphone began to ring.

It was the head of the administrative department, and on seeing his caller ID, Mr. Clarke picked up the call.

As soon as he put the phone to his ear, he was in for the shock of his life. The person on the other end of the call informed him amidst a panic that half of the company shares had been bought by Marcus Rover.

Within that instant, Harrison Clarke recalled his minutes -old conversation with the receptionist, and rushed out of his cabin.

On walking out of the double doors, he came face to face with the man who had caused his entire company to be in an uproar within seconds.

The young man standing in front of him did not fit the image of a person who would be capable of this, by any account!

Although his demeanor was confident, there was nothing else about him that indicated his alleged status.

He was dressed in normal clothes, in fact, the condition of the clothes he was wearing might even be worse than the clothes worn by the interns at Clarke's own company. He was even carrying an old and rugged motorcycle helmet, for god's sake!

Then how could he have done this… ?

Before he could proceed with these thoughts, a satisfied smile appeared on Mark's face, while his eyes were cold.

Seeing that Harrison Clarke had rushed out of his office huffing and puffing, Mark understood that the task he had relayed over the phone must have been completed.

He noticed that CEO was now staring at him in astonishment, and asked in a mocking tone;

"Nice to finally see you, Mr. Clarke.

But you're quite late to save your shares, don't you think President?"

Hearing this, Mr. Clarke's eyes became wide with surprise and he broke out in an immediate apology.

"I'm sorry, sir.

Please, just come inside, please just come inside my cabin. Please give me one chance, I will definitely rectify my mistake."

Seeing this, Mark conceded to his request and walked into the cabin, escorted by Harrison Clarke.

He ensured that the guest was sitting comfortably; and only after offering him a glass of water with his own hands, did Harrison dare to open his mouth.

"If I may ask you this, s- sir…

Please don't be offended, but I want to ask you something.

If you.. if you are not a common man as you have just established, then who… who are you?"

Saying this, Mr. Clarke looked Mark up and down once again, trying to figure out his identity. Meanwhile, Mark crossed his legs and leaned back on the couch before opening his mouth.

"I am the heir of the Rover family."

'The Heir of the Rover family'- these words had the potential to rock Harrison's whole world.

These words meant only one thing: that the man was none other than Marcus Rover… the rich nonillionaire heir of the esteemed Rover family!

The man sitting before him in plain attire was not only the richest man of the country, but he also wielded immense power… and this thought itself made Harrison's vision spin.

How could his staff be so short sighted to offend such a powerful man?

Even when the girl had called him from the reception desk, he had assumed that it was a joke.

But now, the reality of the situation was setting in. They had indeed turned away and disrespected the richest man in the country… the man who was now displeased enough to buy 50% of his company's shares within minutes.

And only God knew what he planned to do next.

Now, he had just one chance to fix his mistake, and he had only been granted this chance because of this man's generosity.

Harrison realized that he had to be incredibly careful with what he said next. If he messed things up now, he might soon end up on the streets, and his company might be driven to the ground or snatched from his hands completely!

Terrified about what was to happen next, he swallowed the lump in his throat and managed to bow down and speak;

"Mr. Rover, it is truly my honor to have you in my office.

And while I understand that there was a misunderstanding in the lobby earlier, but I can assure you, there were no bad intentions- "

At this moment, Marcus Rover directed a meaningful glance towards him, and Clarke trembled with fear.

He fell to his knees in desperation, and continued,

"Please forgive me for my ignorance, Mr. Rover.

I wholeheartedly apologize on behalf of my employees and my entire staff, I implore you to kindly forgive me for my words and the mistakes!"
