Ch -5 : Making demands

After seeing Harrison Clarke apologizing for the words which had been said earlier, Mark realized that he had him right where he wanted.

He was ready to do whatever he said, in exchange for forgiveness. And so he finally opened his mouth,

"Alright, I forgive you.

But that doesn't mean you're off the hook just yet."

The faint relief that had appeared on Harrison's face became laced with slight tension on hearing this. He looked towards Mark's face, expectant and scared, waiting for him to speak.

"If you want to save your company, then you have to take care of one business for me."

Harrison nodded, as if to say that he would be willing to do anything he said at that moment.

"You must give your funds to the Blue Mountains Group."

As soon as he heard this, a crease appeared on Clark's forehead. Although he was scared to the core, he was still a businessman by heart. He had put in so many years of his life and built such an Empire, only by being wise about his investments.

Without thinking too much, he just acted on his instincts and said,

"Mr. Rover, please don't get me wrong, but I had investigated the matters of Blue Mountains Group earlier.

I was informed that the company is already in heavy loss. But if you are saying this, then I assume that you are vouching for them.

Of course, with a powerful backer like you, I am definitely really to invest in the company.

There is one thing, though. I would need some more funds to manage the state of the already sinking company."

Mark, who was skeptical at first, contemplated this for a few seconds and then said casually;

"My manager will be in touch with you within ten minutes regarding this matter.

500 million Dollars will be transferred to your account, in order to fund the Blue Mountains Group."

Hiding his astonishment, Clarke responded,

"Yes, of course, Mr. Rover.

I will call Mr. Andrew Holmes right away, and inform him about the deal with our companies-"

" Except, you will not be contacting Mr. Holmes."

Mark interrupted him in the middle, while Harrison Clarke looked at him with puzzled expressions.

"Then, what…"

"You will be giving this deal to Miss. Cassandra Holmes, not Mr. Holmes.

And be careful about one more thing- under no conditions must you reveal my identity.

Nobody apart from your existing staff should find out the fact that I had visited you at your office today."

While Mark was saying this, the gears were grinding in Harrison's head, as he was trying to figure out what the matter could be.

What was going on with Mr. Rover and that family, that he had been asked to be so secretive?

When he did not get any response even after a few minutes, Mark warned,

"You have to be very careful, do you understand?

If you let anyone know about what events transpired in this cabin, it would not take me even 5 minutes to ruin your life and take your company.

You have already witnessed what I can do, and right now, I have asked my staff to only purchase half of the shares.

But if you don't comply, then I will ask them to acquire the next 20% as well, and I'm sure you can imagine the rest."

The fear gripped Harrison Clarke's heart once again, and he said hurriedly,

"Of course, Mr. Rover!

Everything will be according to your instructions, I promise! I promise that no information shall leave this office without your approval, and I will do whatever you command!"

Satisfied with his response, Mark simply walked out of the door without saying anything else, and checking his watch. The entire matter had been sorted in fifteen minutes.

As soon as he stepped out, he found the receptionist standing in front of him.

The girl was bowing apologetically, and started speaking the moment he came to a stop.

"I'm really sorry, sir.

I should not have refused you to enter, I am really sorry if I offended you.

Please sir, please forgive me as I really need this job, sir, I am really sorry once again."

She saw Mark open his mouth, and immediately closed her eyes, bracing for impact. But the words he said were completely opposite to what she was expecting.

"Don't worry, you will not lose your job… Claudia, is it?"

On hearing her name, the receptionist straightened up, nodding meekly.

"In fact, when you come in tomorrow, you will be working as the manager.

And needless to say, the current manager shall be fired."

Claudia's face clearly displayed her shock. The manager, on the other hand, was both shocked and distressed, and he immediately launched into an apology for the sake of his livelihood.

"Sir? I'm sorry if I insulted you, sir.

Please forgive me, sir, please don't do this to me, how will I-"

Before he could say anything further, Mark interrupted him coldly;

"Just stop! Your apologies are of no use to me, you misbehaved with me after judging me by my appearance."

Hearing this, the manager fell to his knees and began to beg;

"Sir, I'm sorry! Please sir, I made a mistake in identifying you!

Please sir, forgive me, I will never make this mistake in this lifetime! Sorry…"

Mark looked at the manager groveling at his feet with disgust, as if he was nothing more than an insect.

"You are now apologizing, just because you have found out that I possess money and power.

But earlier, you berated me based on nothing but your assumptions.

If it was anybody else apart from me, you would have humiliated them to no extent, without even asking them why they had come there.

This is extremely unprofessional, and this behavior is totally unacceptable from somebody at the administrative position at such a huge company.

You should have conducted yourself ethically even before you recognized me, hence, you do not deserve this position at all."
