After seeing Harrison Clarke apologizing for the words which had been said earlier, Mark realized that he had him right where he wanted.
He was ready to do whatever he said, in exchange for forgiveness. And so he finally opened his mouth,"Alright, I forgive you.But that doesn't mean you're off the hook just yet."The faint relief that had appeared on Harrison's face became laced with slight tension on hearing this. He looked towards Mark's face, expectant and scared, waiting for him to speak."If you want to save your company, then you have to take care of one business for me."Harrison nodded, as if to say that he would be willing to do anything he said at that moment."You must give your funds to the Blue Mountains Group."As soon as he heard this, a crease appeared on Clark's forehead. Although he was scared to the core, he was still a businessman by heart. He had put in so many years of his life and built such an Empire, only by being wise about his investments.Without thinking too much, he just acted on his instincts and said,"Mr. Rover, please don't get me wrong, but I had investigated the matters of Blue Mountains Group earlier.I was informed that the company is already in heavy loss. But if you are saying this, then I assume that you are vouching for them.Of course, with a powerful backer like you, I am definitely really to invest in the company. There is one thing, though. I would need some more funds to manage the state of the already sinking company."Mark, who was skeptical at first, contemplated this for a few seconds and then said casually;"My manager will be in touch with you within ten minutes regarding this matter.500 million Dollars will be transferred to your account, in order to fund the Blue Mountains Group."Hiding his astonishment, Clarke responded,"Yes, of course, Mr. Rover.I will call Mr. Andrew Holmes right away, and inform him about the deal with our companies-"" Except, you will not be contacting Mr. Holmes."Mark interrupted him in the middle, while Harrison Clarke looked at him with puzzled expressions."Then, what…""You will be giving this deal to Miss. Cassandra Holmes, not Mr. Holmes. And be careful about one more thing- under no conditions must you reveal my identity.Nobody apart from your existing staff should find out the fact that I had visited you at your office today."While Mark was saying this, the gears were grinding in Harrison's head, as he was trying to figure out what the matter could be.What was going on with Mr. Rover and that family, that he had been asked to be so secretive? When he did not get any response even after a few minutes, Mark warned,"You have to be very careful, do you understand? If you let anyone know about what events transpired in this cabin, it would not take me even 5 minutes to ruin your life and take your company. You have already witnessed what I can do, and right now, I have asked my staff to only purchase half of the shares. But if you don't comply, then I will ask them to acquire the next 20% as well, and I'm sure you can imagine the rest."The fear gripped Harrison Clarke's heart once again, and he said hurriedly,"Of course, Mr. Rover!Everything will be according to your instructions, I promise! I promise that no information shall leave this office without your approval, and I will do whatever you command!"Satisfied with his response, Mark simply walked out of the door without saying anything else, and checking his watch. The entire matter had been sorted in fifteen minutes. As soon as he stepped out, he found the receptionist standing in front of him.The girl was bowing apologetically, and started speaking the moment he came to a stop."I'm really sorry, sir.I should not have refused you to enter, I am really sorry if I offended you. Please sir, please forgive me as I really need this job, sir, I am really sorry once again."She saw Mark open his mouth, and immediately closed her eyes, bracing for impact. But the words he said were completely opposite to what she was expecting."Don't worry, you will not lose your job… Claudia, is it?"On hearing her name, the receptionist straightened up, nodding meekly."In fact, when you come in tomorrow, you will be working as the manager. And needless to say, the current manager shall be fired."Claudia's face clearly displayed her shock. The manager, on the other hand, was both shocked and distressed, and he immediately launched into an apology for the sake of his livelihood."Sir? I'm sorry if I insulted you, sir. Please forgive me, sir, please don't do this to me, how will I-"Before he could say anything further, Mark interrupted him coldly;"Just stop! Your apologies are of no use to me, you misbehaved with me after judging me by my appearance."Hearing this, the manager fell to his knees and began to beg;"Sir, I'm sorry! Please sir, I made a mistake in identifying you! Please sir, forgive me, I will never make this mistake in this lifetime! Sorry…"Mark looked at the manager groveling at his feet with disgust, as if he was nothing more than an insect."You are now apologizing, just because you have found out that I possess money and power. But earlier, you berated me based on nothing but your assumptions. If it was anybody else apart from me, you would have humiliated them to no extent, without even asking them why they had come there. This is extremely unprofessional, and this behavior is totally unacceptable from somebody at the administrative position at such a huge company. You should have conducted yourself ethically even before you recognized me, hence, you do not deserve this position at all."The next morning, Cassie had just gotten out of the shower when her phone screen lit up with an incoming call from an unknown number. She glanced tentatively at the number before picking up the call, and she was greeted by a pleasant female voice. Cassie only hummed in response when the person confirmed her identity and quietly listened in a subtle shock for the remaining duration. Mark was out in the kitchen, preparing breakfast when she walked out of the room after disconnecting the call. He noticed that she seemed to be in a daze, as she was looking forward without her eyes focusing on anything in front of her. Prompting her gently, he spoke while placing their plates on the dining table;“You alright, Cass?”Cassie’s eyes flicked to his face, finally registering his presence, and she nodded before speaking up;“Yeah, I just… I just got a call from someone named Claudia from Clarke Communications.”Mark immediately understood that they must have reached out to her regarding the
The conference room was abuzz with chatter and gossip, as the Blue Mountains Group shareholders’ meeting had been called by Lady Mariella Holmes at an extremely short notice. Major shareholders- both new and old, had flown in from various corners of the country for this meeting, and those who couldn't make it due to the tight schedule had joined in via video conference. It was time for the Holmes family’s matriarch to announce who would be chosen as the new Managing Director after the stipulated trial period was over. The twenty - four hours after her initial announcement had been rife with tensions, and everyone from the board members to the receptionists were talking about what the outcome could be, and even hedging their bets according to their own preferences. Naturally, this was a matter of great interest as after all, the upper management of their company was going to change after today.Andrew Holmes strode through the glass doors, barely two minutes before the meeting was su
In response to her grandmother’s question, Cassie spoke up,“Grandma, I have secured this amount on behalf of our company, from Clarke Communications as our benefactor. This morning, Mr Harrison Clarke himself called me for a meeting and after I presented my plan to him, he decided to invest in Blue Mountains Group.”She had shut all the wagging mouths in the room raising questions on her status, with one simple statement- as if someone had opened the floodgates in the direction of a raging fire. On hearing these words, Andrew looked like he was strangling on his own breaths. He had just said that she wouldn’t even be able to secure an appointment with him, then how had she persuaded Mr Clarke for 500 million dollars!?Had he grossly underestimated her so far? After a few seconds of silence, her grandmother nodded, signaling for Cassie to sit down. She and Mark had just settled into the empty seats near the door when Lady Holmes started her from a new point;“Thank you for your pati
The rest of the day went like a nightmare for Cassie, and last night, she had not even been able to sleep properly. This was one of the reasons Mark had insisted on dropping her off on his bike, and she also agreed to it.Mark was riding his bike to the client’s office at the other side of the city, with Cassie sitting on the back seat, anxiously checking her watch intermittently. She had just breathed a sigh of relief after realizing that they had reached the final intersection before the office, with five minutes to spare; when they encountered a car coming towards them at a high speed. The Mercedes came speeding towards the bike, breaking the stop signal blinking in its direction. Mark veered his moving bike to the left at the last moment, to avoid a collision with the car.The bike was in motion and it came to a halt with a sudden jerk, also tilting towards the left.Due to this, Cassie lost her balance and fell to the ground on her hands and knees as soon as the bike stopped. The
Both Cassie and Mark were outraged by Moria's bitter words and wanted to give her an adequate reply to teach her some etiquette. But before any of them could react, seven black Jaguars came to a screeching halt at the intersection. Some guards, wearing all black- outfits, stepped out of them. Their unexplained presence was intimidating, and they seemed to be talking amongst themselves via the bluetooth earpieces they all were wearing. One of them reached to open the door of the fourth jaguar, parked in the middle of the envoy. He opened the black umbrella in his hand, and placed it in front of the door. A middle- aged man stepped out of the car and into the shade of the umbrella, his eyes fixed towards the three of them. Another bodyguard rushed towards Mark with an umbrella in hand, but stopped in his place after one gesture from him. Before the tall man could take more than one step forward, eight more well- built men, wearing black safari suits, jumped out of the cars, and forme
"And don't think about me too much. I'll be back soon, after meeting Mr. Rover." These were the words that Mark had said to Cassie before leaving, but all Cassie seemed to be capable of at the moment, was repeating the same sentence in her mind again and again. Her eyes were eagerly searching for a cab at the same time.It was the first time that Mark had left her at the behest of someone else; otherwise, in all these years, he had never left her side suddenly, for any reason. Her safety was the only thing he was always concerned about.Sometimes she also used to mock him about this, saying that he tended to act like he was actually the richest person on earth, and as if their life was always at stake without the presence of guards guarding them.It was not that she never liked his caring attitude for her, but she had always found this action a bit over-the-top, and she wasn't shy to express this to him, either. And while she was busy with her thoughts, she heard Moira's voice once
Mark wanted to argue, and wanted to tell his Grandfather that he could not expose himself right now.But the sadness in those old eyes, the guilt for a crime they had never committed and the regret of not being able to do something that they wanted very badly, stopped him.He nodded and walked out of the library, thinking it was not the right time to say or do anything. After all, there were still four days left until the weekend, so he would wait for the opportunity to convince his grandfather; having decided this, he stepped towards his room. Immersed in his thoughts, he climbed up the flight of stairs that led to his room. But he paused for a second before entering the room, his hand frozen at the handle of the door.He was standing in front of this door after so many years, that this duration had almost convinced him that he wouldn't be able to enter this room, ever again. As after so many years, he was still standing at the same spot he had started walking from. It was making hi
The wall clock placed in the living room showed that it was already seven o'clock. But Mark had not returned yet, and Cassie was waiting for him to come back. She was getting worried, since he had not called her all day. Not only this, but after he had left, he hadn't replied to any of her messages, either. This was something she had never experienced in the entire time period she had known him.She had met him four years ago; back when she was in college. He was the most brilliant student of the class, and the only thing people used to look down on him for was his economical status. But she had always admired him and had always been a fan of his skills; even in their college days, he used to work as a delivery boy and still managed to get the first rank secured in his name, every single time.He might have gotten a decent job after his graduation, if only he didn't have to move with her to Clovelly after their marriage. As an act of vindictiveness, her family had managed to use thei
