HEARTFELT ADMISSIONS

The door of the nearest 2nd-storey bedroom next to the wide staircase resounded with half a dozen loud knocks before Emily could answer the door.

“Just a minute, Helena. I needed to take a bath since I couldn’t take one before I had completed the medical examination at the hospital this morning,” the young lady said in a voice loud enough to be heard by the person behind the door. “I hope I didn’t make you wait too long.”

Emily quickly opened the door and gasped in surprise at the sight of the tall, good-looking and well-built man behind it. She froze, her mouth wide open in the middle of wiping her dripping hair with the white towel provided by their landlady.

“J-Jack, why are you here?” stuttered the rescued female, in shock and extreme nervousness.

“Hello, Emmy. Can I talk to you for a bit?” the lumberyard supervisor asked a little hesitantly. “That is, if you have nothing to do right now…”
