Amber was pushed to the edge.
At this moment, she had only one option left to survive.
“I have to do it..”
Ability users like Amber possess a rare potential to reach the full capability of their ability. It’s the ultimate manifestation of their power, a transformation called Awakening.
Once awakened, their abilities become drastically stronger, often turning the tide of battle in their favor.
For Amber, her awakened ability was called Meteor—a technique that allowed her to summon a massive fireball capable of incinerating everything within a 20-meter radius.
She didn’t care about destroying the school anymore.
All she wanted now… was to save her childhood friend—Yuki—who had fallen into the delusion that all ability users deserved to die.
Amber steadied her breathing and brought both hands together. Her body trembled as she began to channel the power. Her eyes burned bright red, and the very air around her thickened as if gravity itself had grown heavier.
“You're serious?” Saint White blinked, genuinely surprised. “You’d really burn me alive here?”
Amber’s voice was firm, unshaken. “That’s right. If this is the only way to save you from your twisted beliefs… then I’ll kill you. Even if it hurts, even if it means becoming a monster in your eyes.”
Above them, a glowing fireball emerged in the sky—massive, radiant, like a miniature sun.
Its heat was felt far beyond the school grounds, drawing the attention of nearby civilians who now stared skyward in confusion and fear.
The chimera charged, but the temperature around Amber grew unbearable.
As they neared, their skin began to sizzle.
Screams echoed as the creatures halted, their supposed fire resistance failing against the intensity of Amber’s awakening.
“They're supposed to be fire-resistant…” Saint White muttered, observing. “Yet the heat she's generating… it exceeds the fire resistance capability of Chimeras.”
Still, she didn’t move. She remained calm.
Amber raised her palm, pointing it directly at Saint White.
“This is my awakened ability… Take this, Yuki! Meteor!”
KABOOM!
The fireball plummeted from the heavens, slamming into the school grounds with devastating force.
A deafening explosion tore through the area, reducing the building to rubble and carving a massive crater into the earth.
Amber collapsed to one knee, gasping for breath. Her body was scorched, her energy drained.
As the smoke cleared, she looked around.
The chimera were gone—burned to ash.
Saint White had taken a direct hit.
“Did I… get her?” Amber whispered, her vision blurred.
But then—through the swirling dust—she saw a silhouette.
Saint White emerged from the haze, completely unharmed. She even clapped slowly, a smug smile tugging at her lips.
“That was impressive,” she said. “But I think you're still holding back. Did you restrain the blast to avoid civilian casualties? How noble… and how weak.”
Amber’s lips parted in disbelief. “How… How did you survive?”
“I don’t like giving out personal details,” Saint White replied, brushing dust off her white robe. “Let’s just say… I’m not easy to kill. And you, my dear, are out of strength.”
She reached into her coat and pulled out a test tube. Inside was a small humanoid figure made of rock.
“What now…?” Amber muttered, barely able to stay upright.
Saint White tossed the test tube to the ground. It shattered, releasing a surge of energy.
From the test tube, a massive golem emerged, towering over Amber like a mountain.
“Crush her,” Saint White ordered coldly.
The golem obeyed, its heavy steps shaking the ground. Amber tried to move—but her limbs were frozen in pain. Her muscles screamed. She couldn't dodge.
Is this the end? she thought, eyes wide with terror. No… not here. Not yet. There are still things I want to do. People I want to save.
Amber closed her eyes, bracing for the end.
But then—the golem vanished.
“Huh?” Saint White blinked in confusion. “What just—?”
“Amber!”
She opened her eyes slowly, recognizing the voice.
“Noah…?”
He stood between her and Saint White, his hand still glowing faintly.
“You’re late,” she mumbled, relief and embarrassment in her voice. “Why are you here?”
“I was waiting at your apartment,” Noah said, slightly out of breath. “You weren’t answering your phone. I got worried… The curry I made is probably cold now.”
“You… made curry?” she asked, flushed.
“Yeah. I rushed here when I saw that fireball. I figured something was seriously wrong.”
“Thank you… I’m glad you came,” Amber whispered a little flustered.
“What was that?” Noah asked because he didn’t hear her words.
“N-Nothing! Just help me defeat that psycho!” Amber shouted.
Saint White tilted her head. “And who might you be? Another Dark side agent? No… something about you feels different.”
“I know who you are, Saint White,” Noah replied sharply. “You’ve been terrorizing the city. What’s your goal?!”
“Ugh, not this question again,” she sighed, rolling her eyes. “All of you should just die.”
She threw three more test tubes. They shattered on impact, summoning three more golems.
“Kill them,” she commanded.
Noah stepped in front of Amber, remembering Lynn’s training—Quick reflexes. Agile movement. One touch is all it takes.
It Noah succeed touching his target, that means his victory.
Noah charged forward, ducking past the golems’ slow attacks. With a swift motion, he touched one with his right hand.
“Reject.”
The golem vanished instantly.
Saint White’s eyes widened. “W-What?!”
Noah repeated the motion, erasing the second and third golems with ease.
After watching, Saint White remember the most recent report.
“I’ve heard about you,” Saint White said, her voice laced with awe and concern. “An ability user who can erase anything with a touch… A teleporter? No… something even more dangerous.”
She jumped back obviously creating distance between her and Naoh. “Amber, it seems you’ve found an interesting comrade.”
“Are you running away?” Amber taunted.
“For now,” Saint White admitted. “I can tell that He’s troublesome. No worry missing me, we’ll meet again. When we do… That that time… I might decide to kill you myself.”
She pulled out another test tube—this time summoning a giant paper crane. She leapt onto it, flying into the night sky.
“You’re not getting away!” Amber cried, launching a final blast of fire.
It missed.
Saint White disappeared into the horizon.
“She escaped,” Noah muttered, turning to Amber. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” she replied, though her voice cracked. “I just… I couldn’t save her.”
“You knew her?”
Amber nodded. “But that doesn’t matter. If we want to protect this city… we’ll have to kill her.”
Noah’s expression shifted, disapproving. Noah was against killing after all. Even the most evil person, must be given another chance.
Now wasn’t the time to argue philosophy. He knew Amber was hanging on by a thread. He stay and keep his silence.
She dropped to her knees.
Without a word, Noah knelt in front of her and offered his back.
“C’mon. I’ll give you a ride home.”
Amber hesitated but eventually climbed onto his back, wrapping her arms loosely around his shoulders.
“You need food. And sleep.”
“…Thanks, Noah. For saving me.”
“No worries,” he said with a grin. “I am playing the role of the hero, after all.” Referencing the conversation they had on their previous date.
“Pfft. Hero? So childish…” Amber giggled, “…But I don’t hate it.”

Hearing her say my name—it was something I thought I’d never experience again. Our interaction was stiff. Awkward. This had to be hard for her too. I came here to deliver it.”She handed the paper bag over carefully.“Thanks… Sorry for the trouble. I’ll explain everything to my sister soon.”“No need,”
Chapter 11: Improvement
The alarm clock rings, waking me up.The morning air was still chilly, but the sunlight streaming through my window made my body feel warmer than it should. My muscles ached from yesterday’s work and school, and every fiber of my being longed to stay in bed just a little longer. With a groggy sigh, I pushed myself up and stumbled toward the window, pulling the curtain shut. The room dimmed instantly, the invading light replaced by soothing darkness. Satisfied, I collapsed back onto my bed, burying myself under the sheets.I didn’t want to get up. I wanted to stay home and sleep. Just for today, I wanted a day off.Almost a month had passed since I met Amber and the other girls, and my life had changed in ways I hadn’t expected. Rest had become a luxury. I wasn’t even an official part of their team yet, which meant I wasn’t going on missions with them. Instead, I was stuck doing menial work—cleaning, running errands, and whatever odd jobs they assigned to me.It annoyed me.And yet, de
