10. I'd Pay

Chapter Ten – I’d pay

“To give an advice or two.” Sir Allen replied with a calm demeanor, still sporting his fake smile.

Advice? Dominic stared, hopelessly, at the man.

He wanted to smash his head to a wall but that’d cause a messy scene. But he didn’t want to care.

The man caused his life to be such a mess yet he came with an advice? Why were the Allen’s so fearless in taking him on.

He knew Sir Allen was only there to threaten but after coming from his son’s place, Dominic was fed up with any Allen telling him what to do.

“Get out while I’m still sane! I’d likely not repeat myself again.” He showed him the man the door.

Sir Allen shook his head. “This will help you, you know. After four years and returning to the business world, you’d need some…”

The man’s neck was dragged and his smile fell. His face was closer to Dominic’s.

“Allen, you took my wife from me and then my sons, unless when I want to finish you, I don’t want you showing up in front of me!”

Sir Allen’s eyes narrowed at him. “Brielle and the boys are my children. You can pay child support as their biological father but that’s all…”

He was thrown to a wall by Dominic.

Selene sighed and rubbed her temples. “I’m not paid enough for this.”

With menacing steps, Dominic approached Sir Allen. “You have some guts, old man.”

The old man forced himself to sit and grunted while doing so. He brushed off the dust on his trousers and smirked. “So you’re this violent?”

Dominic gritted his teeth. Why was the jerk till acting cool headed and all superior?

Selene held his arm tightly as if she saw they inched to punch Sir Allen. “Sir Allen, forgive the discourtesy, but I’d gladly ask you to leave. I’d refund the bills you paid for Lucas later today.”

Dominic snapped his head at her. So Sir Allen was the one who paid the bills? “Don’t refund to him. He caused what happened to Lucas!”

Selene exhaled but nodded. “Understood.”

She didn’t need a goddess telling her that the attack was related to the Allens. Also, Sir Allen didn’t argue for a refund.

“You are rude to your father in law and expect me to let you see your sons?” The man asked.

“I don’t expect anything from you. I’m going to see them and when they learn of what you did, they’d not want you either.” Dominic seethed.

“You overestimate those gremlins.” Sir Allen rose to his feet. “All they know is mischief, they wouldn’t understand any tale you present them.”

Dominic clenched his fists. Did the old man just call his sons, his own grandsons gremlins? He didn’t think they worth much, did he?

“However, I’d not ask for a refund on what I paid for Lucas. Accuse me whatever you want but I did it on goodwill.” The old man insisted.

“Then can I know how you found out about the accident? My younger brother is Lucas’ guardian and he wasn’t informed yet.” Selena asked.

Sir Allen frowned at her. “Miss Selene, can I also ask how you got involved with Sir Dominic? This is a very uncomfortable pair.”

Uncomfortable pair? Dominic smirked. “Did you just avoid her question?”

He wasn’t expect Sir Allen to know of Selene’s connection to their old Butler Saunders.

Saunders was a popular surname in the country, even Sir Allen had a secretary called Saunders, so he’d never believe the big shot attorney’s dad was a butler.

“I was driving by when I spotted the child left all alone in a damaged car. Where was his guardian then?” Sir Allen raised a brow.

“The boy was sent to school and was being returned by Dominic here…”

“And then I was attack by your people, luckily, I escaped and now you’re claiming the glory.” Dominic pointed at him.

Sir Allen said. “Be glad I found Lucas, and paid his fees. You’ve no reason to be ungrateful.”

“That money you paid with? It was mine to begin with, you know.” Dominic smirked.

Sir Allen’s fists clenched and he faked a smile. “I’m sorry, what was that?”

“I have proof that Brielle withdrew a huge sum of money from my company’s account few days after she disappeared from my life!”

Sir Allen went back. There was proof.

He didn’t think the bank had an account for Brielle since accounts weren’t made when family members withdrew from the bank.

Dominic was satisfied to see the man’s panicked expression.

Brielle, being Allen’s heir, didn’t change her name to Thales hence the Thales bank account manager didn’t consider her a full member.

So she had an account for every transaction she made. Brielle and her father had no clue.

“Y-You can’t accuse me of the money! My dau-daughter was your wife!” the man stammered.

“Taking a sum from the Thales account that led to it’s downfall and to Allen’s rise is suspicious. Also, Brielle divorced him after.” Selene said.

Being reminded that Brielle divorced him hurt Dominic, he looked down then shot his head up.

“There you have it! I’m coming with a big case! You’d refund everything back to me but then it shouldn’t be hard now you’re a big shot, right?”

That sum would still take a leg from him. Sir Allen wiped off sweat running down his neck. “Bring it on!” he tried to sound confident.

“Oh, I will. This won’t be enough to break you so next, I’d take my son’s back and my company’s glory. Then it’d be disaster for you rats!”

Sir Allen charged at him to punch but Dominic easily dodged it and the man fell to the door.

“Old man, I didn’t know you were this violent? Don’t have a brawl with me or I’d put you in a coma.” Dominic warned and sat besides Lucas.

Sir Allen was seething but also startled.

If he had known all these would happen, he wouldn’t have left his home.

He only went to the accident site to see that Dominic was dead but on realizing he wasn’t, he took the boy to gain favor.

He didn’t expect Dominic to be grown up now and so bent on revenge. His change scared him.

“You can use the door now, sir. I’d bring the case to you later this week.” Selena said politely.

Sir Allen’s eyes shifted to her. A big shot lawyer with his enemy. It wouldn’t be good. “Very well.”

After Sir Allen’s departure, Selene turned to Dominic angrily, with hands on her waist. “You were upset, I get it but…”

“You don’t know how I felt seeing him here!” Dominic interrupted, glaring at her.

Selene frowned. “Well, he brought the boy so…”

“You don’t know what went through my mind. Was Selene leaving my side and joining them? Was she turning against me?!” Dominic added.

Selene stayed quiet. Why would he think that?

It might seem like she didn’t have a stake in the case so she'd easily change sides but actually, she did have a stake in the case.

“I want to help my brother. And don’t forget my father was killed!” she emphasized the last one.

Dominic exhaled. Truly, she didn’t have any reason to join the Allens but with few people by his side, his anxiety only deepened.

“Or do you think I’m a lawyer who works for the highest bidder?” Selene asked.

He shook his head. “Of course not, I’m sorry…”

“Well, I am.” Selene replied, making Dominic shocked. “But this case, I have stakes in it too.”

Dominic exhaled, getting up from the bed. He stretched his hand out. “Thank you then.”

Selene rolled her eyes. “Forget it! It’s not like I’m not also getting paid.”

Dominic felt like his arm got stuck in the air.

Selene smirked. “Of course, I’m getting paid so that’s additional gain so don’t get anxious, eh?”

To pay her will cost him an arm and a leg.

Dominic gulped down saliva, but smiled. “As long as you’re on my side, I’d pay anything.”
