9. At the Ward

Chapter Nine – At the ward.

Again? “What do you mean?”

Damien wasn’t stunned Allen family wanted him dead, he’d be hurt to know but at the point, he had given up. But what did ‘again’ mean?

“Your accident four years ago. Didn’t you realize they were involved with it? My father precisely. My sister knew nothing.” Bethel explained.

Dominic’s heart pounded heavily in his chest. Four years ago, he almost died but luckily or unluckily fell into coma. Sir Allen did that?

“Of course, you don’t need to know the reason why…”

“I can guess.” Damien interrupted, darkness filling his eyes. “He only wanted Brielle to marry me for my wealth. It planned a long time ago.”

Bethel watched him intently as his voice lowered, he looked away. “It’s an inner strife by my father and your grandfather decades back.”

Dominic’s head rose. “A decade long strife?” Why'd he never heard of it? Did his grandfather know the Allen family before he married Brielle?

“Yet, that’s what led to the unnecessary hate. That’s all you should know for now. What you should do now is rise...”

“Don’t tell me what to do!” Dominic snapped. “Rising is already on my list.”

“Make it the first on that list!” Bethel yelled. “And be fast, give me reason not to kill you.”

That should be his line. Dominic gritted his teeth and worked to get the rope off his wrists.

The imbecile had no right to tie him up and then speak condescendingly at him. He was the lesser one and not him.

“So our deal, I’d let you live and you work well on that little revenge plot. Make it good, really good.” Bethel turned his back against him.

He twirled the knife in his hands then dropped it on a desk. “You might wonder why I don’t do it myself since I’m a mafia don but the thing is…”

Before he could finish, he was tackled to the ground and Dominic sat atop him, holding the knife he just placed on the desk.

Dominic brought the knife closer to his right eyes in a menacing manner, while breathing heavily.

The sudden actions made Bethel’s blood run cold, he didn’t expect the situation he was in, a visible frown was on his face.

“Good, this is how it should be. Not you looking down at me.” Dominic seethed. “And I’d never wonder why you don’t fight your family yourself. You’re a coward, and I’m well aware of it.”

Bethel tried to throw him off but Dominic stabbed the knife besides his arm, grazing it. Bethel’s lips tightened as he endured the pain.

“Let me finish, bastard!” Dominic yelled. “Next time you try to threaten me or my family, I’d come after you, your son and this little mafia family you have here, understand?” he barked.

Bethel didn’t react but his half-closed eyes showed his submission. Dominic scoffed and left his body.

He replaced the knife on the desk and made for the door. “I’ll fight the Allen family but not for you. Never for you. Fight your own battles.”

When Bethel didn’t reply, Dominic left the room. He limped to the door due to a pain throbbing from his thighs.

The surroundings was quiet. No one person could be heard for miles. The building was in the middle of no where, just a vast dry land.

Dominic smirked on recognizing the place – A popular kidnap spot that people avoided.

It was also a ritual spot. He and Silas had explored the place as curious teenagers and nearly got their families to trouble.

On remembering Silas, Dominic clenched his fists, annoyed at missing their reunion.

“Bethel is a despicable coward and I don’t think he knows that.” He mumbled.

Still, if he’d give credit the scum it’d be for knowing he’d turn the tide around.

They were few people who believed in him so it meant something to Dominic.

Enduring the pain and washing the dirt off his face, Dominic went to the hospital. His phone had been taken so he couldn’t call Jamie.

However, he knew Selene would find Lucas. The boy was given a tracking wristwatch and if he wasn’t home on time, he’d be found.

He threw the entrance door open and hurried in. Workers and patients gawked as he limped to the receptionist’s table but he didn’t mind.

It was nearly a sorry sight but he’d be in a more pathetic state if anything happened to Lucas.

The receptionist gave a knowing smile. “Young master Dominic, the boy was brought in few hours ago. He’s alright.”

Her voice sounded familiar till Dominic realized she had taken care of him during his coma.

She was the one who overhead his in-laws speak ill of him and ushered them out of his ward.

He was grateful to her. She knew his family thereby knew his relationship with Lucas. “Thank you, what room please?”

“Room 102. One Miss Selene is there with a guest. His fees had been paid as well.” Her eyes returned to her desktop.

Fees were paid? Dominic wore an uneasy smile.

“I hope Selene is racking up charges for me.” He said to himself. He nodded to the receptionist and marched to the room’s number.

The room was a VIP and was isolated at the end of the hallway. Dominic could hear two people conversing at the door.

His mind went back to the receptionist saying Miss Selene was with a guest. Who could it be?

If it was Jamie then the receptionist could have clearly said ‘her brother’s wouldn’t she?

“Or maybe she didn’t know their siblings?” Dominic wondered out loud. He knocked on the door and heard a “Come in!”

He swiftly opened the door but was startled at the guest he saw. Selene had an uncomfortable expression, she turned to him and faked a smile.

“Sir Allen! Why in the world are you here?”

Dominic stomped into the ward, banging the door behind him, “What do you mean by this?”

The man should be well aware of how he tormented his life so how could he causally visit his nephew like he was still a nice in-law?

Sir Allen, with hands in his back, turned to face Dominic with a smile. “So it’s true, you truly woke up?”

Selene quickly held Dominic when he raised his fists to attack the man. She knew it wouldn’t help matters. “He was the one who found Lucas.”

Dominic brushed her hold off him. “He’s also the one who caused what happened to Lucas. And me!” he held up his fists. “What the hell are you thinking coming over here?”

“To give an advice or two.” Sir Allen replied with a calm demeanor, still sporting his fake smile.

Advice? Dominic stared, hopelessly, at the man.

He wanted to smash his head to a wall but that’d cause a messy scene. But he didn’t want to care.
