Chapter Seventy-Seven – His girlfriend

The lady’s eyes were down but immediately Lucas walked out, she looked up, then rushed to him. “My baby!”

Dominic was snapped from his thoughts at her words. Could it be? “Aunty Pamela? Is… that you?” it couldn’t be. She was dead. He looked at Silas who wore a smirk.

So that’s what he left to do at India? So this was his girlfriend? He held his collar suddenly, startling Silas.

“You knew?” his eyes were tearing up. “How long did you know that Lucas’ mother was alive?!”

On hearing his uncle, Lucas became distraught. The woman grabbing him was his mother? He assumed it was his Uncle Silas’ over friendly girlfriend. “My mother?”

The lady stopped hugging but held his face closer to hers, joining their foreheads together. The other boys looked confused till they heard their father slid to the ground.

Dominic held his hair, looking down to hide his face.

Silas bent down to him. “Pull yourself together, Domi. This is a good thing, right?

Thank you.” Silas nodded. That should’ve been his first words a long time ago. “It wasn’t easy caring for her while protecting her all the while.” He added, fishing for more gratitude. But his best friend ignored him, walking out of the room. Dominic knocked on the next door before opening it. He found Lucas asleep on his mother’s laps. It made Dominic so happy that the boy finally found someone else to cling unto. He was so little when his parents died that he never had the warmth of a mother. “Domi, you’ve grown a lot.” Pamela smiled painfully. Dominic nodded like a child. “It’s been a while after all.” Selene poked her head into the room, subconsciously asking if she could come in. Dominic opened the door widely, gesturing she could. “Good day Ms. Pamela. Sorry to intrude on you but I’m a law

Why?” Lucas immediately interjected. “It’s not a mistake, Uncle Domi.” Did his uncle mean everything that happened was a mistake? The twins? Jake? “You liked Aunty Brielle.” Dominic froze. Truly, he did but if he had left her alone, all the tragedies that happened to him wouldn’t have happened. He wouldn’t be full of trust issues now. “Indeed, whether or not you married Brielle, things might still get to this.” Selene added. “At least, you’re a dad, and you had a chance to know Allen more.” Pamela folded her arms. “It’s a good thing she divorced you or I’d have done it myself.” Dominic chuckled nervously. He didn’t think his divorce was anything good but he didn’t refute. They left the lady with her son afterward. Selene slapped her book closed. “She’s an emotional mess. I’d come back later by afternoon.” “Where are you off to?” Dominic asked, since all the evidence she’d need were already in one

Dominic watched Jamie’s reaction, he knew he and Bethany had been closer, with his older sister too. This will surely cause a rift in their teamwork. But Jamie was calm. Then suddenly a kick was sent to Tadashi’s face and the man fell on his back. Silas rubbed his neck nervously. “And I thought he was calm.” Perhaps he was the only levelheaded one in the prison with the poor criminal. Jamie picked up Tadashi, not caring that the man was bleeding from the nose. “Is it okay to rough him up? My sister plans to take the case to court officially.” She did? Dominic hadn’t heard of that. It must be the activities she was running while he had CEO duties and family. “That’s okay. Sooner the better.” “Don’t worry, I’d do my best to spread the case to the news when the time comes!” Silas

There was a knock on his door. “Daddy, it’s me.” “Do you need something, Dorian?” “I finished eating and finished everything on my plate. It had vegetables.” The boy reported. Dominic looked up from his laptop. Did he promise him anything special if he finished his food and ate his vegetables? Dorian had never shied away from food. Still to indulge his son, the father replied. “That’s impressive, Dorian. I hope you enjoyed your meal.” He heard the boy chuckle. “Yes! Bye-bye.” “Yeah.” and Dominic heard the boy walk away from the door. Was that all he came to say? Dominic found himself smiling. Kids were truly a joy. He left his table, carrying

The burden of the bratty lady who he finally realized was named Kate. She had attacked him in her usual way and Neon confronted her. Sweat beads filled her forehead and words couldn’t leave her mouth. She stammered out a sorry but got ignored. It had been a priceless moment for Dominic. Neon could break up with her from there, after all, his interest were on Selene, not her copycat. The case in court hadn’t been over yet. All that’s left was the court’s sentence over Mr. Allen and Mrs. Jones. Allen Company had been completely given to Brielle to save it. That means she wouldn’t take any other jobs during that time. Her pay may be sort of fair.” Neon added. “Huh?” Dominic raised a brow. “You are only supporting this because you like her, right?” Neon’s cheeks reddened. “What do you… yes?” “Like how long did she…” Dominic paused. Selene had been working for him for almost a year. Did she really take no other job apart from his own? He realized that they had been no cases trending that involved Case Closed for a year now. She totally focused on this one. The comments had cheered her comeback. Truly, for a year, she devoted it to his case. He looked at the expenses. They weren’t preposterous anymore. She was a big shot lawyer who stuck with him for a year. “
