But this foolish thing must be the best Silas had done so far. Dominic patted Silas, dropped the metallic ruler. “It was a hell of a surprise. Thank you.”

Silas nodded. That should’ve been his first words a long time ago. “It wasn’t easy caring for her while protecting her all the while.” He added, fishing for more gratitude.

But his best friend ignored him, walking out of the room. Dominic knocked on the next door before opening it. He found Lucas asleep on his mother’s laps.

It made Dominic so happy that the boy finally found someone else to cling unto. He was so little when his parents died that he never had the warmth of a mother.

“Domi, you’ve grown a lot.” Pamela smiled painfully.

Dominic nodded like a child. “It’s been a while after all.”

Selene poked her head into the room, subconsciously asking if she could come in. Dominic opened the door widely, gesturing she could.
