Chapter 2: A Betrayal

The person who came was none other than Rose Aubrey. Sean's girlfriend for the past five years.

"Rose!" Sean stammered.

He tried to get up, but one of Arnold's friends immediately held him back.

"It was you who dared to interrupt my fun," Arnold said. He had a meaningful smile on his lips.

Rose walked over to the five men. She saw Sean's battered condition

"Rose, get out of here. Please don't get involved!" said Sean.

"Look who's talking!" Arnold smiled dismissively.

He stood beside Rose and stroked her hair. Then, kissed the girl on the cheek right in front of Sean.

Rose didn't try to dodge or resist. She just turned her face the other way.

"What the hell are you doing!"

Sean shouted in anger. They had been together for five years and he had never treated Rose that low. He had promised himself to always take care of Rose.

Sean loved the girl very much and didn't want anything bad to happen to her. He didn't want Rose to get involved in this.

"Arnold, end it for today. Can't you see he's already pretty beat up?" Rose said.

Arnold glanced at Sean. He seemed to think for a while.

"All right. But instead, you have to have some fun with me tonight. On my bed," he said with a smirk on his lips. Then, he left with his three friends.

"Rose what are you doing?!"

Sean couldn't believe what had just happened. He didn't think that his girlfriend would do such a reckless thing to save him.

In Sean's eyes, Rose was a good girl. No wonder she did this. It was just that Sean couldn't accept it.

What did Arnold say earlier?

Have fun with him tonight on his bed?

That's crazy!

Everyone knew where this was going!

"Rose, do you realize what you've done?" asked Sean.

He had repeatedly warned Rose not to get involved. He would rather have his body destroyed than see Rose help him in such a ridiculous way.

"Of course I do. I'm very aware of it," Rose replied.

Sean was touched, but also upset at the same time. After all, he would never willingly let his girlfriend sleep with Arnold just to save him.

"Forget what you said to Arnold just now. Don't ever see him, do you understand? I will protect you."

Rose was still silent. She looked at Sean from head to toe.

Sean's face could be said to be handsome, but his appearance was much different. The clothes he wore looked shabby and cheap. He also didn't have a vehicle. That's why Sean was called a loser on this campus.

The thing that made Rose want to be his girlfriend was because of Sean's good personality. During the five years of dating him, Sean never messed up. He was also a smart guy.

"Sean." Rose paused her sentence.

"I know. I understand how much you love me. But, please don't do that."

"Let's break up!" Rose looked at Sean expressionlessly.

Lately Rose realized that his kindness, good looks, and intelligence were not enough. Rose wanted the luxuries that her friends got, and Sean couldn't give her that.

Sean looked at Rose with a confused look. Everything seemed so impossible to him.

"Rose, what did you just say?" Sean stammered.

"I want to break up with you. Is that not clear enough?" Rose replied curtly.

She didn't care about Sean's current condition. It was very different from the Rose that Sean knew back then. Let alone battered, Sean's only minor injury had made the girl overreact.

But what happened today was completely unexpected. Rose didn't care one bit.

"Rose, are you kidding me? Is it the first of April?" Sean still didn't want to believe what Rose was saying.

"Do I look like I'm joking to you?" Rose asked irritably.

"It's not like that. I mean... didn't you come to save me from Arnold's cruelty?" Sean asked back.

He leaned against the wall. Now it wasn't just his body that was hurting, but his heart as well.

"Me? Save you? You must be crazy!" Rose looked even more upset.

"I guess it's like that. You wanted to break up because you were going to see Arnold tonight and sleep with him just to save me today. You must feel guilty afterward."

Sean was still trying to think of other possibilities.

"But take it easy, Rose. You don't have to do that. You don't have to sleep with Arnold. I'll deal with him tomorrow."

Nevertheless, he was only fooling himself. Facing Arnold was the same as looking dead. Sean knew that very well, but on the one hand, he also couldn't let his lover sacrifice for him.

"Facing him in what way? You're just a loser, Sean! You even think I saved you." Rose said fiercely.

"But why, Rose? Did I do something wrong? I apologize if I did," Sean said.

"You only made one mistake, Sean. You're a loser, and I can't stand you anymore."

Sean was silent.

Had Rose been pretending to love him all along?

Or, had she found another man?

But, since when?

In retrospect, Rose had changed quite a bit lately, but Sean didn't take it seriously.

Sean didn't know that Rose's change in attitude had a different meaning. He also didn't expect it to end like this.

"All this time you were fine with my condition." Sean looked at her with disappointment.

"That was then, Sean. Now I've had enough. I want luxury, and you can never give me those things. I'm ashamed!" said Rose. Full of emphasis.

The girl meant what she said. She was fed up with Sean. She was sick of being the laughingstock of her friends for dating a loser.

She was even starting to question her decision to date Sean five years ago. Was she that stupid back then? To accept a loser like Sean?

Even though there were many men out there who wanted her. Including Arnold who had been flirting with her for the past three months.

Rose must have been too stupid to realize that back then. Then she realized it now. She would not waste the opportunity to part with Sean as soon as possible and turn into Arnold's arms with all the luxuries.

"Are you throwing me away who has been with you for five years for money?" Sean asked. His voice caught in his throat.

Sean didn't understand. For five years he had always put Rose first. He would skip meals and give her some of his money.

But now what?

Rose threw him away for another man's money.

Five years is not a short time!

"You can't buy me a fancy bag like Arnold did, Sean! He even picked me up in his fancy car. Whereas you? You don't even have a bike!"

Sean was shocked by what Rose had just described. Even though it was all true, his heart ached when he heard it.

"Are you dating Arnold? Since when Rose?"

"Since three months ago," Rose replied indifferently. As if it was nothing. As if it wouldn't hurt Sean's heart who had been with her for five years.

"Why would you do this to me, Rose? You can't date Arnold!"

"Why not? He's rich and no less handsome than you. He can also give me luxuries," Rose said.

"Arnold is not a good guy. Don't you see what he's done to me?"

Everyone knows Arnold is not a good guy. He likes to change partners and gets bored easily. Not a few girls ended up getting dumped by him.

However, many girls ignored that, and still wanted to date him. Including Rose. All for a moment of luxury.

"He treats you like this because you're a loser. Don't you realize that, Sean?"

"Rose, come on, Arnold's not a good guy."

Sean was still trying to persuade Rose. He probably wouldn't be like this if the man Rose was with wasn't Arnold. He was quite familiar with Arnold's temperament. Sean was afraid that something would happen to Rose if she was with him.

"A loser like you has the nerve to judge others. When it's clear, Arnold's level is very far above yours."

"Never mind. From today we don't have any relationship. So, don't see or talk to me again."

Rose then walked away from Sean's presence. She left the wounded man alone.

Sean looked at Rose who was getting away with teary eyes. The pain of being beaten by Arnold was nothing compared to the heartache Rose had given him.

Five years wasn't a short time, but Rose just dumped him. It was as if their time together had meant nothing at all. Their love just evaporated.

Sean walked home while occasionally wincing in pain. Today Arnold had gone too far. The wounds he got were much worse than usual.

While passing through a quiet street, Sean felt like someone was following him. He turned his head to make sure, but there was nothing. It was just him alone there.

"Maybe it's just me," he thought. Then he continued on his way.

Crak!

Sean suddenly heard something like someone stepping on a branch behind him. He hurriedly turned his head and his body froze instantly.
