Chapter 3: Escaping Death

Sean stared at the creature behind him. He didn't know what it was, but the aura around it seemed tense. It frightened Sean to the point of not daring to move.

"What is that thing?"

Sean squinted his eyes. His vision was blurry, and that made him even more curious. He could only see its red eyes among the trees.

The creature seemed to be stalking Sean and made growling sounds. Its pointy teeth looked extremely terrifying. Then the next second, the creature ran towards Sean.

Sean stared at the creature. He wasn't sure what it was.

Maybe a wolf?

No!

There couldn't be a wolf that big roaming the city!

Sean squinted his eyes again as the creature got closer. He started to get a good look at it. It didn't look like a wolf. It was very different.

Its body looked like a Komodo dragon, but much larger. Its teeth were sharp. Its eyes were red. On its head it had one horn and around it were scales sticking out. At first glance, it looked like a dragon's head.

Sean began to realize that he was in danger. He screamed in fear. Then ran as hard as he could.

"Help! Help me!"

The pain in his body prevented the poor man from running at full speed. He could only shout for help.

But unfortunately, it seemed like he was the only one in the area. The streets were very quiet tonight. Even too quiet, and not a single vehicle passed by.

The huge creature was much faster than Sean. It was quickly already in front of him. It growled again. It bared its pointed teeth as if it was ready to tear Sean's body apart. Its tongue stuck out like it was starving.

Sean screamed again. Then he turned around and ran back. The creature was still chasing him.

"No! Go away! Don't chase me!" Sean shouted fearfully.

One of the creature's front legs swung out and its sharp nails scraped Sean's back. Pain radiated through his injured back and began to bleed. Sean collapsed on the road.

The smell of blood from the wound on Sean's back made the creature even more violent. This time the creature made a sound that was quite different from before. The scales around its horns trembled and seemed to make a distinctive clanking sound.

Sean tried to get up. However, the wound on his back was too painful. Blood was flowing profusely.

"No! No! This can't be!" he said, shaking his head.

In his entire life, Sean had never felt this scared. Suddenly being attacked by a strange and terrifying creature, it was simply never in his wildest imagination.

Not to mention, he had never seen such a creature before. Not even in his imagination.

"What year is it? There can't be monsters in the year two thousand twenty-four, right? I must be crazy!" Sean babbled amid the enveloping fear.

This didn't make sense to him. He had thought that this was all just a bad dream, but he didn't wake up.

The monster jumped at Sean with its mouth wide open. There was no escape for Sean.

"No!"

Sean's scream sounded so heartbreaking. After all the bad luck and betrayal he had experienced, he never imagined that he would end up being eaten by a monster. It was heartbreaking.

At the same time, a bolt of lightning struck the monster and knocked it down. A man stood not far from the monster. He was holding two swords that seemed to be conducting electrical energy.

Sean could only remain silent as he watched that. Then he began to wonder again.

Who was that man?

And what exactly was going on?

Did he accidentally enter another world?

Although there were so many questions in Sean's mind, he also didn't want to waste the opportunity to escape. He got up with difficulty. Then he limped away.

Sean had heard several explosions and groans from the monster. But he didn't want to care. He just wanted to quickly escape from this place and feel safe.

What he saw all seemed impossible. The monster attack and the presence of a strange man carrying a sword, all of it was impossible in the modern era like now.

Sean was also sure that the lightning that struck the monster came from that man. It all looked like a scene from a fantasy movie.

After feeling far enough away, Sean chose to stop at an empty building. The pain from his back began to radiate throughout his body. He was no longer able to continue walking.

Sean collapsed on the cold and dusty floor. He groaned in pain. Blood continued to flow from his back.

A sharp pain suddenly hit his head. Sean again thought that this was the end of his life. Although he managed to escape from the monster, the wound that the creature gave him was quite fatal.

Sean didn't feel strong anymore. His eyes began to close. His breathing stopped.

**

Sean blinked his eyes repeatedly. He looked around. The atmosphere in the room seemed dimly lit, unlike when he entered it.

He tried to remember what had happened last night, and his memory went straight to the monster that attacked him. His hands felt all over his body.

"Am I dead?"

Sean checked the wound on his back. There was no pain, nor were there any scratch marks. His clothes were torn, but there was no trace of dried blood. It was as if nothing had happened to him.

Sean sat leaning against the wall. His body was fine, and that made him confused. It wasn't that he wanted anything to happen to his body. Not at all.

It was just that, where did the scars inflicted by the monster attack last night go?

It couldn't have healed in just a short time, could it?

Even if someone helped him, it was impossible to heal a wound in less than one night!

Then he remembered the mysterious man last night.

"Did he heal my wounds?" muttered Sean.

He shook his head. "That doesn't seem possible."

Sean closed his eyes. He went back to thinking. Everything seemed confusing to him.

He was happy to have escaped death, but everything seemed impossible in this modern world.

The appearance of a horrible monster. The man with the power of electricity. It was completely unacceptable to his common sense.

And if he told the story of last night, he was one hundred percent sure that no one would believe him. They would just think he was crazy.

Already a loser, crazy too. What an amazing combination.

When he opened his eyes again, Sean saw something strange in his vision. He repeatedly blinked his eyes, but what he saw did not disappear from his vision. Over time, it made Sean start to panic.
