Sean stared at the creature behind him. He didn't know what it was, but the aura around it seemed tense. It frightened Sean to the point of not daring to move.
"What is that thing?"
Sean squinted his eyes. His vision was blurry, and that made him even more curious. He could only see its red eyes among the trees.
The creature seemed to be stalking Sean and made growling sounds. Its pointy teeth looked extremely terrifying. Then the next second, the creature ran towards Sean.
Sean stared at the creature. He wasn't sure what it was.
Maybe a wolf?
No!
There couldn't be a wolf that big roaming the city!
Sean squinted his eyes again as the creature got closer. He started to get a good look at it. It didn't look like a wolf. It was very different.
Its body looked like a Komodo dragon, but much larger. Its teeth were sharp. Its eyes were red. On its head it had one horn and around it were scales sticking out. At first glance, it looked like a dragon's head.
Sean began to realize that he was in danger. He screamed in fear. Then ran as hard as he could.
"Help! Help me!"
The pain in his body prevented the poor man from running at full speed. He could only shout for help.
But unfortunately, it seemed like he was the only one in the area. The streets were very quiet tonight. Even too quiet, and not a single vehicle passed by.
The huge creature was much faster than Sean. It was quickly already in front of him. It growled again. It bared its pointed teeth as if it was ready to tear Sean's body apart. Its tongue stuck out like it was starving.
Sean screamed again. Then he turned around and ran back. The creature was still chasing him.
"No! Go away! Don't chase me!" Sean shouted fearfully.
One of the creature's front legs swung out and its sharp nails scraped Sean's back. Pain radiated through his injured back and began to bleed. Sean collapsed on the road.
The smell of blood from the wound on Sean's back made the creature even more violent. This time the creature made a sound that was quite different from before. The scales around its horns trembled and seemed to make a distinctive clanking sound.
Sean tried to get up. However, the wound on his back was too painful. Blood was flowing profusely.
"No! No! This can't be!" he said, shaking his head.
In his entire life, Sean had never felt this scared. Suddenly being attacked by a strange and terrifying creature, it was simply never in his wildest imagination.
Not to mention, he had never seen such a creature before. Not even in his imagination.
"What year is it? There can't be monsters in the year two thousand twenty-four, right? I must be crazy!" Sean babbled amid the enveloping fear.
This didn't make sense to him. He had thought that this was all just a bad dream, but he didn't wake up.
The monster jumped at Sean with its mouth wide open. There was no escape for Sean.
"No!"
Sean's scream sounded so heartbreaking. After all the bad luck and betrayal he had experienced, he never imagined that he would end up being eaten by a monster. It was heartbreaking.
At the same time, a bolt of lightning struck the monster and knocked it down. A man stood not far from the monster. He was holding two swords that seemed to be conducting electrical energy.
Sean could only remain silent as he watched that. Then he began to wonder again.
Who was that man?
And what exactly was going on?
Did he accidentally enter another world?
Although there were so many questions in Sean's mind, he also didn't want to waste the opportunity to escape. He got up with difficulty. Then he limped away.
Sean had heard several explosions and groans from the monster. But he didn't want to care. He just wanted to quickly escape from this place and feel safe.
What he saw all seemed impossible. The monster attack and the presence of a strange man carrying a sword, all of it was impossible in the modern era like now.
Sean was also sure that the lightning that struck the monster came from that man. It all looked like a scene from a fantasy movie.
After feeling far enough away, Sean chose to stop at an empty building. The pain from his back began to radiate throughout his body. He was no longer able to continue walking.
Sean collapsed on the cold and dusty floor. He groaned in pain. Blood continued to flow from his back.
A sharp pain suddenly hit his head. Sean again thought that this was the end of his life. Although he managed to escape from the monster, the wound that the creature gave him was quite fatal.
Sean didn't feel strong anymore. His eyes began to close. His breathing stopped.
**
Sean blinked his eyes repeatedly. He looked around. The atmosphere in the room seemed dimly lit, unlike when he entered it.
He tried to remember what had happened last night, and his memory went straight to the monster that attacked him. His hands felt all over his body.
"Am I dead?"
Sean checked the wound on his back. There was no pain, nor were there any scratch marks. His clothes were torn, but there was no trace of dried blood. It was as if nothing had happened to him.
Sean sat leaning against the wall. His body was fine, and that made him confused. It wasn't that he wanted anything to happen to his body. Not at all.
It was just that, where did the scars inflicted by the monster attack last night go?
It couldn't have healed in just a short time, could it?
Even if someone helped him, it was impossible to heal a wound in less than one night!
Then he remembered the mysterious man last night.
"Did he heal my wounds?" muttered Sean.
He shook his head. "That doesn't seem possible."
Sean closed his eyes. He went back to thinking. Everything seemed confusing to him.
He was happy to have escaped death, but everything seemed impossible in this modern world.
The appearance of a horrible monster. The man with the power of electricity. It was completely unacceptable to his common sense.
And if he told the story of last night, he was one hundred percent sure that no one would believe him. They would just think he was crazy.
Already a loser, crazy too. What an amazing combination.
When he opened his eyes again, Sean saw something strange in his vision. He repeatedly blinked his eyes, but what he saw did not disappear from his vision. Over time, it made Sean start to panic.
Sean began to panic. There was something strange about his vision. He saw a blue square-shaped hologram that filled his vision. It looked very clear and appeared out of nowhere."What is this?" Sean wondered. The weirdness he experienced was not over yet.A string of text appeared in the center of the screen.[Owner has been found.][Start activating the system.][Start analyzing the owner][Name: Sean Alfie Edison][Age: 21 years old][Vitality: D][Total points: 0][Add natural element: +]"What the hell? What has happened to me?" Sean said to himself.[Scan complete][Congratulations, Mr. Sean Alfie Edison! A notification popped up. His eyes widened. The $10,000 had arrived in his account. It was a huge amount of money for Sean. He could live well for the next few months. He could even buy a new
[Name: Sean Alfie Edison][Age: 21 years old][Vitality: D][Points: 100][Add natural element: +]Sean continued to stare at the screen in front of him. He still didn't understand. Where did he get those points from? This was something new to him."Did I get points for paying the rent and spending the money given by the system?"Sean looked at his new glasses. If it was true that he got the points for using the money, then it would be easy for him. After all, who in the world doesn't like spending money? But in a way, Sean felt strange. The name of this system was the Natural Power Control System, and the name of the mission he had to carry out was the Natural Balance Mission.Could money bring nature into balance? If he thought about it, it made little sense. He was treated unfairly because he had no money. Then once he had money, people would be a little nicer to him."That's right! Money can balance nature." Sean said with confidence. He glanced at the wound on his hand. The blood
The five people stood in front of Sean. One of the two women briefly glanced at him from head to toe, then turned to look at the fat man.Being looked at in that way made Sean feel uncomfortable. He was offended. What's more, the person who was staring at him earlier seemed to look down on him.Sean didn't know who they were and why the woman was treating him that way. However, they looked like people with power. This was also reinforced by the fat man's reaction, which seemed frightened. Maybe they knew each other. That was good for Sean."We meet again, Mr. Hugo," said the woman who had been looking at Sean.Sean looked at the fat man. The woman had called him by his name. It was obvious that these six people knew each other."We got a report about violence in a public place. At first, we didn't think it was you." The tallest man said. The man named Hugo looked panicked. Then he said, "It's not what you think. I can explain it.""You are very good at acting."Another woman came in h
Alfred watched Sean's reaction intently. This wasn't the first time he had faced a case like this. It had been many times, with predictable results."Sir, I don't know them. I don't know Mrs. Emma. How can I be accused of being her mistress?" Sean asked. He was visibly unsettled. Ever since he saw the violence Hugo inflicted on Emma, Sean had made up his mind to help her. But what he got now was unexpected. The couple accused him of being Emma's mistress. This made no sense. After all, he was the victim of Rose and Arnold's affair. There was no way he was going to have an affair with Mrs. Emma, who was far away from him in age.Even if he had to have an affair, he would look for a girl more beautiful than Rose. Perhaps one of the two goddesses on campus would be better."I'm just trying to help her from her husband's abuse. That's it!" Sean continued.Alfred sighed. He seemed to know a few things about what happened to Sean."What made you want to help a stranger, young man?" asked Al
After thinking for a while, and getting some advice from Alfred, Sean finally decided to talk to the woman. He would give it a try first.Although he didn't know what the result would be, Sean didn't mind. He also didn't mind if he couldn't persuade Mrs. Emma to retract her statement. As long as the money requested was not more than $5,000, he would be fine.Sean was honestly surprised. Why did Alfred tell him to do this?Shouldn't it be their job to talk to Mrs. Emma, and explain that what she did was wrong?Sean was about to ask Alfred about this, but the man had already gone out of the room. Right after Sean decided to talk to Mrs. Emma. He immediately rushed off.Sean was again left alone. This time he just hoped that everything would go smoothly. He couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to leave this place immediately. In less than ten minutes, the door to the room opened again. Sean saw Alfred carrying Mrs. Emma into the room. He immediately stood up and looked at the woman with
[Name: Sean Alfie Edison][Age: 21 years old][Vitality: D][Points: 600][Add nature element: +]Sean stared at the changes on the screen intently. Then, he recalled what he had gone through that day. Not much. Just stayed in the office of the Women's and Children's Protection Organization and talked with Alfred and Mrs. Emma."I only used the money for food, but why did the points add up so much?" Sean wondered in his mind.He didn't understand what had happened. This system was completely new to him. Even about how it worked, it didn't seem as simple as Sean thought.Sean entered his house. He went straight to his room and lay down on the bed. His mind was still thinking about the five hundred points he had just gotten. Then Sean remembered the name of the mission he had to carry out. It was a nature balance mission, which he thought was a mission to spend the money given by the system. But it was not that simple. Sean began to realize that maybe the mission he had to carry out was
Sean began to turn on the faucet. He let the water just flow. There was a slight hesitation in him.Sean stared at the water in front of him. He didn't know what he should do. Slowly, Sean aimed one hand at the stream of water.Five minutes passed, and nothing changed. The water continued to flow, and Sean continued to stand there."What's going on? Why is there no change?" he thought.Nevertheless, Sean kept trying. Until seven minutes passed, he felt bored. He also felt that his efforts were in vain."Maybe the level should be higher so I can control the flow of water," he said.In the end, Sean gave up. He decided to take a shower. After all was done, he went out to get something to eat.Now he had quite a lot of money. Sean was going to start enjoying real life.He went to his regular fast food joint. As usual the people there were very friendly to him. Sean ordered the food he usually ordered there. Then left after paying and gave them a little more money than he had to pay.The
Sean set up his stance hesitantly. He had never fought before, so it was only natural that he set up his stance carelessly. His hands were already clenched into fists, and he took a position to attack. He made his facial expression as normal as possible. He didn't want to look scared or pitiful in the eyes of these three thugs, who were very arrogant and rude.He already had a strong determination to fight them. As for the outcome, he hoped that he could defeat the three men. Because, in a way, Sean was very curious about the points he would get.Fighting one thief, he got a hundred points. Helping Mrs. Emma from her abusive husband, he got five hundred points. Then, if he managed to defeat these three men, how many points would he get?Sean looked very curious about that. The three men in front of him smiled dismissively. They had beaten people up many times. It might even be their way of life. Therefore, seeing the way Sean set up his stance already made them confident that they wou
