Chapter 4: Natural Power Control System

Sean began to panic. There was something strange about his vision. He saw a blue square-shaped hologram that filled his vision. It looked very clear and appeared out of nowhere.

"What is this?" Sean wondered. The weirdness he experienced was not over yet.

A string of text appeared in the center of the screen.

[Owner has been found.]

[Start activating the system.]

[Start analyzing the owner]

[Name: Sean Alfie Edison]

"What the hell? What has happened to me?" Sean said to himself.

[Scan complete]

[Congratulations, Mr. Sean Alfie Edison! You have activated the natural power control system.]

[$10,000 has been added to your account as a reward for successfully activating the system.]

At the same time, Sean's cell phone rang. A notification popped up. His eyes widened. The $10,000 had arrived in his account.

It was a huge amount of money for Sean. He could live well for the next few months. He could even buy a new pair of glasses.

"Is this real? I'm not dreaming, am I?"

Sean slapped his face, but he felt pain. That meant none of this was a dream. The system was real, and the money he was earning was real.

[Points can be earned by performing nature balance missions and can be exchanged for any nature elemental power you want.]

[The monetary rewards will continue to grow as the level of natural elemental power increases.]

Sean's brow furrowed. His panic disappeared in an instant.

What is the nature power control system?

How to use it?

And what kind of nature balance mission should he carry out?

Although there were so many questions in his mind, in a way Sean felt happy. This was indeed beyond reason, but it was also a fortune for him. Especially if it could help him make money easily.

The screen in front of him disappeared in a single blink. Sean rose to his feet. His whole body felt fine.

"Is this because of the system?” Sean wondered even more.

He walked out of the empty building. It was already noon. The sun was shining very brightly. It was too late for him to come to the campus.

Sean remembered what happened last night. He hurried back to the location. He wanted to see if there were any clues as to what had happened.

Sean looked around. Everything looked fine. There was no trace of anything.

Though if he remembered again, the size of the monster was very large. It was impossible for its movements not to cause any damage. It was also impossible for it to just disappear.

Even if the monster was killed by the mysterious man, there was no way the carcass would just disappear. The size of the monster was too big to be carried alone.

As Sean recalled, the mysterious man last night was the same height as him. Although he couldn't see his revelation, from his posture Sean was sure that he was only a few years older than him.

Not wanting to bother too much, Sean chose to go home. He wanted to clean his body and rest a bit.

But before that, he decided to go buy some glasses first. He had the money and would of course spend it.

Arriving at the glasses shop, Sean realized that his vision was fine. He could see clearly.

Sean was silent in front of the shop for a while.

"Is it the system too?" he muttered.

Sean decided to buy new glasses anyway. His shabby appearance and torn clothes meant that Sean was ignored by the shopkeeper.

Even when he bought it, he was not treated well. They seemed to want him to leave the shop quickly.

Sean understood. This was not the first time he was treated like that. It had been many times. In different places.

Most people would only judge others by the price of the clothes they wore. The more expensive the clothes looked, the more respect they would have.

On his way back from the store, Sean had helped a woman whose bag was stolen by someone. He chased the thief, returned her bag, and received a scratch on his left hand.

Sean continued on his way home. He didn't think about the wound on his hand even though it was bleeding quite a lot. He thought it would heal on its own because of the system he just had. Just like what happened last night.

Arriving at the courtyard of the house, Sean saw an old woman accompanied by two burly men removing his belongings from the house. Some items were also scattered in the yard.

Sean rushed over to the old woman.

"Mrs. Anne, what are you doing?" Sean asked. His face was covered with anxiety.

"You! You're finally home. Pack your things and get out of here!" The old woman spoke very harshly.

People called her Mrs. Anne. She was the owner of several properties in the area where Sean lived. Including the house Sean was renting.

She was quite strict and miserly. Sean couldn't stand her attitude but chose to stay. Compared to rents elsewhere, it was a bit cheaper here. That was why.

"But why, Mrs. Anne?"

Sean tried to stop the two burly men who were about to throw his closet.

"Why, you ask why?" Mrs. Anne looked even angrier.

Sean was still trying to secure his belongings. He didn't want anything to get damaged.

"You're three days late on last month's rent!" the old woman said.

Sean was stunned.

Only three days, but he was already being treated like this!

Wasn't this too much?

"I'm only three days late, Mrs. Anne. I'll pay it," Sean said.

He was upset. Of course, he was!

Sean remembered the family who rented downstairs, they were always late too. Sean had even accidentally eavesdropped on their conversation with Mrs. Anne about the late rent.

They were almost two weeks late, but Mrs. Anne still treated them very well. There was no reprimand. No forced eviction.

It wasn't fair to Sean. He did have to work hard to support himself, but two weeks late on the rent? Sean had never been late for that long!

"Pay? What are you going to pay with?"

Mrs. Anne blocked Sean who was about to stop the two burly men.

"Look at you! With torn clothes like that, you deserve to be homeless. You have no future at all!"

Mrs. Anne insulted him vigorously. She was always like that. No matter who upset her, it was always Sean who she would vent her anger on.

Was Sean upset by all her insults?

Of course, he was!

It was just that Sean had no other choice but to keep quiet. This place was the only one he could rent.

"Mrs. Anne, I will pay for it right now. So please, order them to stop removing my things." Sean looked increasingly frustrated.

It would take a long time to get the stuff back into the house. Not to mention, he would have to reorganize them. It would be tiring.

"I'll pay it directly with this month's rent, Mrs. Anne."

Sean took out his cell phone. He immediately transferred the money to Mrs. Anne's account. The sooner, the better.

Mrs. Anne checked her phone. The smile on the old lady's face grew instantly. Money did change everything.

"Hey guys, stop that! Let's go home!" Mrs. Anne said to the two men.

Then the three of them just left.

Sean stared at the scattered items. It was already cloudy. He'd better get them cleaned up before it rained.

Only a few things he had time to put in the house when it rained. Sean was getting more and more troubled. He had to secure the items before they got wet.

While he was struggling, the family who rented the house downstairs came home. They saw Sean, but only briefly. They were the same as Mrs. Anne.

Sean sighed roughly. He was tired. In this world, he was completely alone.

His mother died giving birth to him. Meanwhile, his father died when Sean was eleven years old in a car accident.

He lived in an orphanage for a few years. However, they mistreated him. So, Sean decided to run away from there when he was fifteen. From then on, he lived alone and had to work hard.

However, his bright mind allowed him to stay in school with a scholarship. He just needed to work to make ends meet.

Since getting to know Rose, he has more spirit. His life is not lonely anymore. That girl has always been a light in the darkness. An antidote to fatigue.

But unfortunately, their relationship only lasted until yesterday. He was betrayed three months ago. His happy days ended just like that.

Sean felt hurt, but there wasn't much he could do. The world never seemed to be on his side.

It was the same at his part-time job. Many of the full-time workers were mean to him. Then when he complained to his boss, Sean would still be blamed. The world wasn't fair to him.

Speaking of work, Sean had gotten several messages from his boss. The person asked him why he didn't come to work last night. He let out an expletive that made Sean think about leaving the job.

After all, he currently had money from the system. It would be enough until he found a new job.

After all was done, Sean lay down on the couch. His house was still a mess, but he didn't care. His energy was gone in an instant.

Suddenly he was reminded of what happened last night. The monster and the mysterious man. Then the system that was suddenly in his body.

Sean thought, do the three of them have a common thread?

Is he still living in the same world that he lived in yesterday?

A screen suddenly appeared in his vision. Sean was surprised and stared at the screen for a long time. He looked even more confused.
