And after gathering enough strength I groaned calling Enzo's name.

He rushed to me and stared at my wound. "Oh my goodness the scalpel is stuck here still!" He was shaking. I never saw him shaking before.

There was enough of the scalpel sticking out from the wound for him to grasp between his finger and thumb and pull it out.

I cried out, "I..." I moaned, "It's burning!" I squirmed as he held me tightly.

"Hey, look at me!" he said.

With my vision blurred by tears, I looked into his eyes.

"You've come this far, you can make it further!" Enzo's gaze pierced mine before he kissed me. In that kiss, I found a shred of peace amidst the torment.

I clung to him, the pain still a burning presence, yet his arms around me provided a little bit of comfort. Just as the agony began to dull, Enzo's hand moved down to my waist and grasped the hilt of the scalpel. He pulled it out.

I squirmed in pain, trying to pull away, but his grip tightened, and he kissed me even more passionately.
