Chapter 162: Security System
last update2025-03-31 15:08:55

A few seconds later, the elevator doors stopped on the second floor, and the real technicians moved towards the main control panels of the broken elevator.

Oliver and Ray did their best to hide behind, taking James’ warning that there might be blind spots.

“Let’s go do this quickly, everyone, so we can go home early,” the maintenance team leader said as they started taking off the tools.

Then, she received a message.

“They need two other maintenance on the top floor,” she said, her eyes scanning the team. There are five of them in total. “Who would volunteer?”

“We’ll go,” Oliver said, raising his hand alongside Ray. “We’ll do the job quickly so all of us can go home without any problems.”

“Alright.” she nodded, her expression stern. “Do your job properly. I’ll receive a message if you don’t.”

Oliver and Ray nodded in unison.

Little did the maintenance leader know, the message she received came from James, and not from an official employee of Argus Industries.

“You may go,” she said,

Nick chuckled. “This is the first time you called Oliver ‘Commander’, huh?”“It’s because we’re on a mission,” James smirked as he typed again, accessing the security system he still had control over. Then, something caught his attention.“Commander, we have a problem,” James spoke to Oliver, who was making their way now toward the shortcut door that would lead to Dominic’s office.Frowning, Oliver asked, “What is it?”“There’s a biometric scanner on the shortcut door inside Dominic’s office,” James admitted, his hand-typing heard on the call. “I can’t bypass it remotely.”“Their security system intrigues me more,” Ray couldn’t help but say, seeing how the security tightens over time. Then, as they were already in front of the door of Dominic’s office, they saw it closely. The biometric scanner beside it glowed red, waiting for an authorized user.“James, is there any way to forge a scan?” Oliver asked, his tone low.“No.” James shook his head, although no one could see them. “You’d

“Alright,” Oliver answered, looking from left to right, quickly adjusting their vision to the dark. This was part of their training back in the Legion, and lucky for them, the people catching over them were just ordinary guards; they had no skills like Legion V.Because if it is, things might just get more complicated for them. There could be a bloody fight inside Argus Industries. However, since their only goal is to take information about Dominic Hawthorne and Argus Industries, Oliver and Ray do their best to avoid combat.“It’s clear,” Ray muttered as he reached the intersection first, halting just long enough to check both directions. “Let’s go!”Both of them sprinted down the corridor, yet their footsteps were silent against the carpeted floor.“Turn right,” said James on the other line, with his aggressive typing on the keyboard heard in the background. “At the end of the hall, you’ll see a maintenance stairwell.”“Is that exit safe?” Ray asked, his breathing ragged.“To be hone

As soon as they entered the secret door, the enemies swarmed inside the room. But before they could find Oliver and Ray, the wall closed again. The silence filled the entire room for a while as no one spoke. They were only listening to the voices behind the wall, wondering whether those people also knew about the secret room.“All clear,” they heard a young man speak in the storage room. “There is no sign of anyone entering here, Sir.”“Alright,” another man answered—the one that was addressed as ‘sir.’ “Let’s get out of here. They might be hiding in other rooms.”“Yes, Sir.”Both of them heard footsteps running outside the storage room, and a few seconds later, it was gone. That’s the only time Ray could breathe properly. If those people knew about the secret door and his hunch was wrong, then it could be the end of them.“It was so dark in here,” Ray muttered, his gaze fixated in front. “Not even a single light could penetrate the area.”There was no window or other area aside from

“Got it. I already have a location where you are,” James told them after a few seconds. With his brows furrowing, Ray asked, “You mean, this secret passageway?”“Yeah.” James nodded although no one could see him. “That place isn’t in the main schematics, but I found a record of it in the archives.”He added, “If the record I can see here is this accurate, then there should be three doors in front of you.”Oliver and Ray looked at their front and realized that James was right. In front of them were three metal security doors with combination locks.“There is,” Oliver said, frowning in confusion. “This could… Is there more danger to it than fighting with the enemies outside?”“To be honest, I don’t know,” James admitted as he did his best to search for more information about the secret passageway.“There could only be two reasons,” Samuel said, preparing to leave. “Either that place was their old escape route…”“...Or they’re still using it for whatever reason, and that’s why they didn’

James typed aggressively onto his keyboard, looking at the third door’s password.“Be quick, James,” Nick said, looking onto the sniper scope. “Another batch of security is going through the storage room.”Instead of answering, James clicked on the information he found onto the screen.“The password is encrypted—”“No, it’s not,” Ray interrupted, already turning the handle. “The lock’s broken.”“That’s suspicious,” Samuel muttered. “And that could be a trap, Commander.”Oliver gritted his teeth. His gaze moved between the three doors and even on the pathway that would bring them back to the abandoned storage room.‘All of them had different risks, and the second door could be detrimental to our health as we’re unsure about the chemicals in the air,’ Oliver thought, frowning. He pondered for a few seconds. After that, he pushed the door open, revealing another narrow path—almost identical to the path they had walked onto earlier. The only difference is that this other path has yellow

Ray struck first, driving his elbow into the nearest guard’s temple. The man crumpled without a sound before losing consciousness.Oliver went to the second guard, twisting his arm behind his back before slamming him against the wall. The man groaned in pain, but Oliver’s hand clamped over his mouth to prevent being heard by the other guards possibly monitoring the hallway.“Don’t move. Don’t speak,” Oliver commanded as he leaned in, his voice low. “If you value your life, you’ll stay low.”Nodding frantically, the guard looked at Oliver, with his eyes widening. At first, Oliver hesitated to hurt the guard. After all, these two were ordinary guards patrolling the exit. However, a few seconds later, he knocked the guard out. They didn’t have time for risks.“Damn. I thought you’d let him be,” Ray teased, shaking his head.Oliver smirked. “Not a chance.”With the guards down, they both moved to the loading dock door.“We’re already outside, waiting for you two,” Samuel’s voice came t

The next thing Legion V needed to find out was the reason for the partnership.“You’re right, but trust is earned, not given,” Oliver said, his eyes burning with determination.“And we’re going to see whether Charlie is deserving of that trust or not.”***Meanwhile, Dominic had just returned to Argus Industries. He was out of Colossia earlier to meet with a client, but he ended it abruptly upon receiving a text message from his right-hand man.[Argus Industries has been compromised. There were intruders in the building.]“Shit,” Dominic muttered a curse as someone opened the door for him.He entered the building, and he was immediately followed by five bodyguards on the back. One of Dominic’s managers, who was in charge of the top floor, went onto him, immediately keeping up with the pace.“What’s the situation?” Dominic asked, his walk calm yet urgent.“We lost the intruders, Sir,” the manager said, his voice low. He added, “They used an exit from the west wing—a location that wasn

Dominic’s boss was still unconvinced.Although the intruders stayed in the Research and Development Department for a short time, he didn’t believe that they didn’t pick anything up along the way.“Run the report,” commanded the boss.Even though he was panicking, Dominic forced himself to summarize the report on his tablet.“The intruders were named Jerome and Ralph, employees of the technical team,” Dominic read the file.“According to their team leader, he received a text to send some employees from the maintenance team to fix the elevator on the top floor.”His brows furrowed afterward.“But it wasn’t from my employees, especially not from me. I was on a business meeting when this happened.”“I know,” answered the person on the other line with a smirk. “I have your entire schedule, Hawthorne. Did you forget?”Upon hearing those words, Dominic gulped. This was his role in the illegal business he had. Someone who just needed to act like a decoy and follow their commands.A mere puppe

Back when we didn’t have so much between us.”Hearing those words, Oliver couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically and shook his head, not taking the bait.“I’ve missed talking to you, Oliver,” she added.“You never talked to me, Trisha,” Oliver answered coldly. “Not even when I tried to reach out to you back then. But talking about it was useless now.”And to be honest, Oliver was glad that it had ended that way.Because of what happened, he was able to return to his real family, Seraphine and Anastasia.“No. It’s alright. Let’s talk about us,” Trisha spoke, her tone pretentiously begging, as she looked Oliver in the eye. “I missed you. I really do.”It was a lie, and Oliver could see right through it.Trisha was only concerned with two things in life: Herself and money. He had learned about it as soon as they divorced.“The only

Shit.”The regret instantly consumed Trisha’s body as she covered her mouth, preventing her from gasping hard, as she leaned onto the wall.“If only I let Oliver have sex with me back then, and if we also had a child… He would have treated me the same way,” she muttered, clenching her fists.“I would also have his money. For hours, Oliver, Seraphine, and Anastasia had a good time bonding as a familyBut mostly, it was Oliver and Seraphine talking as they spent more time getting to know each other, especially about Seraphine’s hobbies and wants.“I love watching superheroes like Sky Man, daddy,” Anastasia mumbled, giggling joyfully. “Mommy said that you’re a superhero, saving everyone’s lives while you’re away.”Oliver looked at Seraphine, his smile widening. “You said that to her?”“She asked me what your job is like,” Seraphine answered, looking away, scratching her nape. “That’s the closest description I could say.”“Well, you’re right.” Oliver nodded. Then, he leaned toward Seraphine, muttering into her ear, “But at the same time, you were wrong.”Hearing those words, Seraphine looked Oliver in the eye, her eyes narrowing.Oliver didn’t explain his sentence, she knew what he wanted to say.His work wasn’t exactly like a superhero. “Oliver,” Seraphine called, her brows furrowing.Hearing her mention his name made Oliver’s heart skip a bit.But then, he turned in her direction and smiled. “Why, Sera?”“Are you hiding something from me again?”That question caused Oliver’s smile to fade.‘I knew it. Seraphine had a good perception, or maybe it’s because we’ve been together for a long time,’ he thought.Oliver added, ‘It’s really hard to hide some things from her.’So, he decided to be honest with her about it.While walking toward the hallways, Oliver explained.“To be honest, I don’t know how I can explain it, or whether you’ll believe me or not,” he said in a low tone.“But the necklace I always have with me suddenly had a light on its pendant. And… poof. The light exploded.”He created a sound effect of an explosion, and his hands also re-enacted the same thing.“It didn’t hurt, but at the same time, I felt like something had changed within me,” he added. “I feel lighter and stronger in a way I can’t explain.”

That was close.”“Run through the entire computer and double-check whether that bastard managed to get on the security,” Oliver commanded. Then, he looked at Nick. “Help him double-check everything.”“Yes, Commander,” Nick affirmed. The silence filled their conversation as no one spoke afterward. But they could feel the tension arising in the air, especially with Oliver’s sudden shift in his expression.Sitting on the chair next to James, both of them started to check whether they had been compromised or if the enemy had managed to get through their computer or not.A few minutes later, Nick spoke, “There’s nothing. Our line is clean.”James sighed, leaning his back on the chair.“I don’t think their g

Right now, we need to go over what we pulled from Argus Industries.”Oliver tried to make his voice calm and teasing, making sure he won’t completely ruin the vibe. However, Samuel, who was the most observant in their group, noticed the expression Oliver was trying to conceal.Fear. Worry. Anger.‘But not toward Legion V,’ Samuel thought, and he was certain about it. ‘Maybe it was because of what they found in the office.’“Ugh,” Nick groaned, dramatically flopping onto the couch. He added, “Commander, do we have to do work stuff already as soon as we reach the hideout? Can’t we pretend to be normal for like… five minutes?”Oliver raised an eyebrow.“You want normal?
