Zorka is taken aback as he looks at the children. Their vacant gazes, devoid of life's energy, fill him with pity. Umayah, noticing Zorka's surprise, explains.

"These ten children are the victims of parents who were destroyed by the monster. They are all orphaned, truly alone.”

Umayah leads Zorka to a room that appears to be the living room. In the spacious room, there are chairs stacked high, covering the windows. In fact, Zorka only realizes upon entering Umayah's house that it feels dark. This is because the windows of Umayah's house are covered by tall, thick objects.

Zorka sits on the carpet, its faded color covered in dust. Before sitting down, Umayah takes a broomstick. She sweeps the carpet to remove the dust that dirties it. However, her efforts are not very successful; the dust flies in all directions and ends up back on the carpet.

Watching Umayah's efforts to please her guest, Zorka asks her to stop trying to clean the dust on the carpet.
