Chapter 11
“Very well, will do.” With that last comment, Bastian, along with Damrabe and Reothad, left the grotto, leaving Draco alone with a half-conscious Drake.“Now then, let’s get this place cleaned up.” Draco whipped the ground with his tail once. As soon as he did so, multiple changes rapidly occurred throughout the cavern. With a loud crack, the makeshift throne shattered into infinitesimal dust. The lower levels of the amphitheater shuddered and rose until all the steps became leveled with the ground, making it look like it had never existed in the first place. Finally, all the chains binding Drake, except for the one attached to his neck collar disintegrated with a pop. The stone pillars holding the whole structure up began to groan and crack as Draco calmly wrapped a length of Drake’s neck chain around his right hand. After the first two or three pillars gave in to the pressure they were under and literally exploded, Draco finally unfolded his wings and jumped into the air. He took

Chapter 12
The dragon was humanoid, and by far the oldest Drake had seen yet; its dark gold hide was leathery and wrinkled. Its underbelly scales and wing skin was parchment colored, and a pair of spectacles identical to Damrabe’s sat on the dragon’s snout, in front of a set of gold colored eyes. Also, like D'arabe, its head was like that of a Chinese dragon, and a mane of white hair extended from behind its horns, and a tuft of it tipped its tail. It sported a short, white beard.Poseidon wiped the ink on his talon off on a cloth tacked to the table, took off his spectacles, and looked up at Draco. “Welcome back, Draco. In charge of transporting the new prisoners again?”Draco grimaced. “You know perfectly well that your grandson should be doing that,” he growled.“I do,” Poseidon responded. “And where would my grandson be this time?”“Took off with the king to watch his son in action,” Draco snorted. “I think he just wanted to get out of seeing you again.”The aged dragon sighed. “Yes, well, t

Drake was planning to just eat in peace at the foot of the wall beneath Poseidon’s cave, but someone threw an empty bowl at him, which shattered at his feet. Whatever chatter had been going on quickly died off as Drake looked up at the person responsible for the broken bowl. Sitting at a table set up nearby was a creature that was mostly human in appearance, but it was much taller than a human and had light-blue skin covering its overly muscular body. He wore a pair of brown animal fur pants, and his red eyes sneered at Drake as he picked his teeth with a fork, bare feet up on the table.“Hey, newbie, I’m still hungry,” he said, his lower canine teeth jutting out past his lips. “Gimme your food.”Drake said nothing and stepped over the broken bowl as he continued to his destination. Not liking the cold shoulder he had received, the creature slammed his feet on the floor and stood up, at least a head and shoulders higher than a basketball player. With large strides, he quickly caught u

Chapter 14
“All done,” Damrabe announced as he pulled two empty test tubes out of his sash. “I might as well get a couple of blood samples while I’m here; I’m interested in learning more about this boy.” Uncorking the test tubes, he pointed his middle and index finger at the blood dribbling from Drake’ mouth and made a come here gesture. Following his command, the blood lifted itself off Drake’ face and flew through the air until it poured itself into the empty test tubes. Corking them up, Damrabe put them back in his sash and stood up. He turned around to meet Poseidon’s quiet gaze.“Well done,” Poseidon commented. “Blood healing and blood control. Both powerful skills belong to those of the Sanguis Draconis dragon species.”“Shut up!” Damrabe suddenly spat, losing his composure. “I’m not of that class; I’m a half-breed between that and your Anear Draconis species. You know that.”“Indeed.” Poseidon’s eyes unfocused as he gazed out into space. “How I wish your mother was still with us.”Damrabe

“Well, Bastian?” he spat, unable to hide his disdain for the Dragon King. “Have you and your underlings been able to find out anything that we can pin on that human? Many of our kind are calling for an immediate public execution. Surely you’re aware of this?”“Quiet, Vinzgar,” a dragon directly across the table from the dark gray dragon ordered. It was the current representative of the Stormfang family and Bastian’s son, Drax. Drax was the spitting image of his father, except for the eyes. While his pupils were black and his irises gold, the sclera were a deep blue. “My father will give you the report on what he has found, make no mistake about that. Until then, though, please keep those unnecessary comments to yourself.”“What was that?” Vinegar growled, turning his gaze to the younger dragon. “I thought you were taught to respect your elders, brat. Where are your manners?”The two of them glared at each other in silence as the tension in the air thickened. Sighing, Bastian sharply s

“And?” Vinegar spoke. “What’s the other half of Drake’s heritage?”“That...I don’t know,” Damrabe admitted. “I’ve compared his blood sample to that of the blood samples I have on all the other races known to exist in this world. Dragon, human, elf, orc, fairy, giant, troll, goblin, etc.... His structure doesn’t match up to any of them at all. But....”“What is it?” Boreta asked as Damrabe hesitated. “Don’t keep us in suspense; spit it out already.”Damrabe sighed before a dark expression crossed his face. “Based on the relationships between DNA structures and one’s attribute, if Drake managed to awaken him , his attribute would be... Dark.”A flicker of shock ran through the entire council, and they all turned to their king. There was a surprised expression on Bastian’s face upon hearing this, and he grew very serious as he stared hard at Damrabe.“Damrabe, I hope you aren’t spouting off nonsense right now to keep everyone here on edge. Are you certain about that? We can’t afford to

Did the king come here and use that spell from before on me again? He shook his head at this thought. No, it probably wasn’t him. I can imagine how busy a king of dragons would be with the situation I’ve gotten myself involved in. Someone else must’ve done it.His clothing had also been changed during his sleep. Drake now wore a sleeveless black shirt made of a semi-soft fabric, and his tattered jeans had been replaced by blue pants of a similar fabric to the shirt. The pants were held up by a brown sash wrapped around Drake’s waist and tied off to the side, the extra length of the sash hanging from his left hip.The smell of food assaulted his nostrils. Looking around, Drake spotted a picture of water and two full bowls of the meaty mush from yesterday placed on a wooden table behind the head of his bed. Ravenous, Drake grabbed both bowls of mush and devoured them quickly, finally putting an end to his stomach’s loud protests of recent mistreatment. Thirsty, he grabbed the picture by

Chapter 18
“I’ll only tell you this now: I have absolutely zero interest in what you’re envisioning, you perv! If you ever try anything, I will take aggressive actions!”“Oh, so you like it rough, huh?” Zero teased.“Zero, that’s enough of that,” Poseidon demanded as Drake went stark white in the face. “I didn’t call you out here to give Drake a hard time; I want you to teach him Dragonscript.”Great, even Poseidon’s making queer jokes now.Poseidon sighed and looked over at Drake. “I know this might be uncomfortable for you, but Zero’s going to be teaching you Dragonscript for the time being.“Like hell he will!” Drake shouted. “How come you had to pick the gay dragon to teach me?!”“Because he was the only one who said he’d be willing to teach you when I was asking around for a mentor,” Poseidon responded.Drake groaned. That’s when Zero began to laugh heartily.“Poseidon, I think we’ve teased the poor kid enough,” he chuckled, wiping a tear from his eye. “Relax, Drake; we were only joking. We

“Poseidon, it’s me,” a voice that he didn’t recognize said. “I’m coming in.” Without waiting for a response, the owner of the voice opened the door and stepped through the doorway. It was a slightly aged dragon with nearly black gray scales and pale red underbelly scales and wing skin. A gold band set with large rubies was fitting around his tail just before the tip, which was shaped much like that of a harpoon head. Multiple pale scars covered his entire body from head to toe. The dragon’s red eyes darted around the office until they rested their gaze on Drake, who was still half-buried in a pile of books and parchment. He raised an eyebrow questionably at the sight.“I’m guessing you’re the half-breed called Drake?” he snorted, a slight look of disgust on his face. “What are you doing?”Half-breed? “Nothing,” Drake responded, pulling himself out of the pile and dusting himself off. “Just got caught in a landslide of parchment. Mind telling me who you are?”“Where’s Poseidon?” the dr

Chapter 20
“Have fun with Zero today, Drake,” Poseidon chuckled from his desk, not making any effort to answer Drake’s pleas. “See you tonight after you finish your training today.”“Poseidon?!” Drake’s cry was cut off as the door closed behind them. For the first time in over a month, Drake left the interior of the prison he had been kept in. However, he wasn't as quiet as when he first came.“Let go of me!” he shouted as Zero unfurled his wings and flew out of the cave where Poseidon’s office was located. “Put me down right now, you perv!”Smack. Using his tail, Zero had smacked Drake straight across his face. Even though it wasn’t the first time Drake had been slapped like that recently, he was still stunned by this unexpected reaction from the small dragon.“Shut up,” Zero growled, annoyance clear in his voice as he flew out the opening in the grotto and out into the open sky. “I’ve had enough of your rudeness; I may be much more easy-going than most of the others you’ve met, but I’m still t
