CHAPTER 101
Oliver sat across from his step-brother, Carter, drumming his fingers nervously on the oak desk. He had been eagerly waiting to share the news about his investor meetings and the future plans that he had for the company. However, he knew that conversations with Carter could never be easy, and from the tense look on his face, he could tell that this one was not going to be an exception."So, what’s the word on those investor meetings? I assume you’re here to gloat?" Carter said, sneering sarcastically."I’m here to share, actually. The meetings went well, better than expected actually, and I think I can bring a lot to the table," Oliver said, trying to keep his voice level."Still. I’m not sure if that means anything coming from you. You do realize that you’ve never been good in business or even in life in general," Carter said, rolling his eyes."You know that’s not true. We’ve known each other for years, and I have grown in experience since college. I can contribute a lot to the comp

CHAPTER 102
The next day, Oliver went straight to the police station to report what had happened the night before. He recounted the details of the car chase, how he was followed and almost hit by several cars, and how he barely managed to escape. At first, the police didn't seem too interested in helping him, which made Oliver feel frustrated and powerless."Why aren't you doing something about this?" Oliver asked, trying to keep his voice calm."We're sorry, sir," the officer replied, "but without any concrete evidence or witnesses, there's not much we can do."Oliver was about to give up when he remembered the pile of money he had left in his car. Though he was aware that using money to get what he wants was not acceptable, he was left with no other option."Wait a minute," Oliver said, "I have something that might change your mind."He went out to his car and came back with a pile of cash in his hand. The officer's eyes widened as he saw the amount of money."What's this for, sir?" he asked."

Oliver sat in his living room, staring at the folder in his lap. He had finally decided to do something about his stepbrother's suspicious connections. With a determined look in his eyes, he flipped open the file and scanned through the photographs and documents, feeling a sense of anger bubble up inside him.He couldn't believe that someone in his own family could get involved with such dangerous people. It was time for him to take action. He picked up his phone and dialed a private investigator's number that he had found online. After a few rings, the investigator picked up."Hello, this is Adrian. How may I assist you?" the investigator asked."Yes, hello Adrian, my name is Oliver. I have an urgent matter that I need your help with," Oliver said, trying to keep his voice calm."I see. What do you need me to investigate?" Adrian asked, sounding curious.Oliver hesitated for a moment, then decided to spill the beans. He explained to the investigator about his stepbrother's suspicious

CHAPTER 104
Oliver sighed deeply as he leaned back in his plush office chair, stretching out his tired limbs. The long day at work had been tedious and exhausting, but he was grateful for the paycheck that came with it all. Just as he was about to pack up and call it a day, his phone rang suddenly, breaking the peaceful silence."Hello?" Oliver spoke into the receiver, wiping the sweat from his brow."Hey, Oliver, it's me, Carter." He could detect the smugness in his voice, even through the phone."Carter? What do you want?" Oliver's curiosity was piqued; he and Carter did not have the best relations."I was just thinking...you come at small gathering of our family later," Carter said, his tone arrogant as usual, "Dad will look for you." Oliver was taken aback by the offer. He never imagined Carter would invite him to socialize outside of family obligations. His initial instinct was to decline, as he preferred to be alone most of the time. However, something inside him told him to agree. Maybe i

Adam was busy preparing a batch of croissants, but he immediately stopped what he was doing when he saw Oliver."Oliver! What a pleasant surprise!" Adam said as he approached to give his friend a hug."Hey, Adam. I was in the neighborhood, and I thought I'd drop by and say hello," Oliver replied, returning the embrace.Adam gestured towards a small table in the corner. "Come, sit. I'll make us some coffee."As Adam went about making the coffee, Oliver looked around the shop. I want to show you something.”They turned down a side street and Oliver’s eyes widened as his old apartment building came into view. The paint was peeling and the windows were dirty, but it looked the same as it had when he had lived there all those years ago.Adam led him up the stairs to his old apartment and opened the door. "Oliver, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for the way I've treated you in the past. I've been so caught up in my own issues that I never took the time to appreciate all that you've done for me and my family. You saved my son's life, and for that, I can never repay you."Oliver was surprised by Carter's words, but he appreciated the sentiment. "Thank you, Carter. I don't hold anything against you. I was just doing what I had to do to protect Carson."Carter nodded. "I know, but that doesn't mean I can't be grateful. You risked your life for my family, and I'll never forget that."As they talked, C
