CHAPTER 131
“Back off, moron. She just told you she isn't interested in what is difficult for your grown Guinea fowl to understand. You are not her class, and you can't compete with her man, so f***k the hell off." Alex screamed at him. The man was shocked, and I too was shocked. My mouth fell open as I watched her speak to him in such a manner.“Alex, you should come down." I want to say something to her, but I kind of loved how protective she was of me. I found it strange and fascinating, and I wondered how jealous she would be of her lover. I chuckled and looked back at the man, who still stood perplexed at his marrows.“If I were you, I would stay away from her and never show your ugly face here." Alex screamed in her voice and called the attention of the other person's who were having their solo lunch date.“Well, I wasn't even talking to you; why are you even flipping and yelling?” “Move Mr.” “Mr. Marcus”. He smiled at Kayla, who still had her arms folded against her chest.“I don't give

They drove off to work, but on their way, they stopped by a store to get Lisa's ice cream.“I can beat my chest and say this is not the first time you are meeting Mr. Marcus. I mean, how on earth would you treat him in such a mean way if you haven't had a bad encounter with him before now? Kayla asked. She paused for a while and took the seat belt off her waist.“I haven't met, actually. I just hate his guts the moment he shows up at the front door." Alex confessed. She had her seat facing the door, so it was easy for her to see who was coming into the restaurant hall from the front door.“Whoa! You even noticed when he got into the restaurant from the door?” She asked Alex as he got out of the car and closed the door.“Yes. I saw him come in, and he came straight to meet us, Luke. He had nothing else to do but woo a lady for the whole day,” she said, angered and pained, and I just couldn't relate to the reason she was angry. But I could tell she didn't want anyone coming close to me

CHAPTER 133
The weekend came in too fast for Kayla. She needed her space, but since her mom had called and said it was important, she wouldn't miss it for anything in the world. She woke up strong and energized. She had prepared herself for this meeting overnight, and she had made up her mind to let her mother see the reasons for her choosing Peter. Her father did not have much of a fight with whether she had a child before marriage or not, but her mom held values so high that she didn't want any disgrace from Kayla, especially when it came to how the women at the church ran their noses into other people's business. That was her mother's only concern, and Kayla knew that there was nothing more to it than “What will people say?”. People have always said a lot, and even after death, they will still speak of you, whether good or bad. Either way, you will remain a topic of discussion. "Kayla, you should hurry up; we have a long drive ahead of us," Peter called out from the living room while Kayla wa

Ethan brought the wine and carefully placed it on the table. He put the glass down and served the wine in the glasses for each one of them. “You should try this wine; I got it recently," Ethan said, smiling and looking at Peter, who took up the glass, shook it, and sipped from it. “It's good; I must commend," Peter said, smiling at Ethan.“I told you you would love it. It's a good brand, and I hear it's good for my age.”“I can see that, Dad," Kayla said. “I think I should join Mom in the kitchen. She excused herself and joined her mother in the kitchen. Mrs. Ethan was busy grilling the chicken in the oven. Some veggies were laid in a clean bowl, waiting to be chopped. Kayla immediately picked up the knife and began to chop the onion.“You still tear from chopping onions?” Her mother asked. It has always been Kayla's weakness in the kitchen. They prepared the food, and Kaa helped her mom carry the tray of food to the dining area.“Lunch is served," Brenda called out to her husband a

Kayla is happy that her parents accepted her, even after all the fear she had in her heart about her mom. She knows in her heart that no reasonable parent would reject a daughter who is engaged to a wealthy man like Peter. He had all the money he needed to take care of a family he was very responsible for. When they got home, Kayla packed up her things and went downstairs to meet Peter, who was waiting for her in the living room.“Do you have to go? You could bring all you have to her and live with me." He suggested.“What sir? She wrinkled her nose at him and frowned jokingly. "Well, I am already pregnant; I don't want to add to it.”.“We aren't adding anything, Kayla, and you know it." Peter countered her opinion.“Well, we do not have to keep up with the fornication that led us here. Please take me home.”.“I have asked that we get married legally already, and my lawyers will be here first thing tomorrow to do all the paperwork. That's easy. Kayla please”.“Everything isn't about

CHAPTER 136
The sun had slowly risen in the city. It was mid-morning when Peter got out of his meeting. Detective Reynolds was sitting in the reception waiting for the boss. Peter and Tyler came out from the hall smiling and thanking the delegates from the external audit office. “Thank you for showing up with your team”. Peter said with a smile as he spoke with the lady and her teammates.“Thank you, Mr. Peter. The company has done a bit more than I thought in the last months. This is a great news and a great thing. You have done a great job in holding the company to this level in such a little time”. The auditor said with a smile she shook Peter's hand firmly and went her way with her colleagues. “Detective Reynolds is waiting for you, sir”. Tyler informed him. Peter scratched his head and sighed. I think I am a bit exhausted from all the meetings. Being a CEO is not for the feeble-minded I must tell you”. Peter complained.“But you have been doing awesome, unlike my other bosses who treat pe

CHAPTER 137
Victor was standing right under the tree in front of Detective Reynolds's apartment. He had tracked him down to his house in Swagvile. He had his face cap on just to hide his identity a little bit, but the scorching sun wasn’t doing any good on his bare skin as he stood there and watched the yard for a while. The neighborhood in which Reynolds lived isn’t as sophisticated as Victor had thought it would be. Birds were chirping from the orange trees around the yard, and on one side stood a fully grown oak tree, spreading its roots and branches effortlessly. Victor surveyed the yard and scanned to see if anyone was watching him, even though he had been standing in the same spot for the past thirty minutes. The yard seemed much quieter than most areas of town. On the front porch of the building were two vases of giant Aloe Vera standing on both sides, with a long wooden bench standing in the center. He raved his eyes in the garage and found two cars, but one of them seemed abandoned. Vic

CHAPTER 138
Reynolds stood on the front porch, wondering what audacity had made Victor show up at his house unannounced to try to bribe him. He laughed and shook his head at the temerity he had built over the years to think that a renowned and well-respected detective like Reynolds would set the tone for such foolishness.“I am way bigger than that change you came with." He murmured and went back into the house. He checked the gun again, knowing fully well that there was no bullet inside the gun. Reynolds smiled. At least he has a day or two to enjoy the house they made available for all the moments. He got into his apartment, dressed up fully, before leaving the house on his way out and placing a call to Reuben, his colleague. He looked at his car from a distance, and a white substance rested in between the windscreen and the glass. Reynolds rubbed his chin quickly as he walked forward to take a look before getting into his car. “The idiot left a note," I murmured to myself and pulled out the

The next morning, Reynolds got up from his bed and grabbed his towel immediately. He checked the raw time and murmured some words to himself. He sluggishly walked into the bathroom and got a quick shower, and the moment he got back from the bathroom, he was dressed in shabby-looking pants and a black shirt. He checked himself out in the mirror and smiled with satisfaction. ‘This is just the perfect look I have been waiting for." He said this to himself and strapped a baseball cap over his head. He didn't need to go with his car, so he kept the keys in the drawer and locked it. He has vowed to get to the bottom of the whole investigation all by himself because he knows Reuben might as well do the opposite. He grabbed a little bag containing his phone and a few valuables and stepped out of the building. He took a long walk out to the estate's main gate before flagging down a taxi to take him to the central city. It's just a little distance from the warehouse where the goods were stock

Reynolds rested, and after a while, he went straight to the Warehouse. He had thought of going there the next day, but then he thought about having something at hand to walk with for the night. He stood by the roadside in his funny disguise and waved at a taxi he thought would take him there.“Parham’s Avenue”. He said this when the driver stopped in front of him.“That would be thirty bucks." The driver said that, and Reynolds quickly gave the man the money without hesitating. He had not used any public means of transportation for a very long time, but he had to do it so that he could come up with something tangible to deliver to Mr. Peter when he next met him. He had worked on worse cases of intent and deep murder, yet none of those tough cases had made him disguise the way he is doing for Peter’s case. Aside from the fact that he had boasted so much to Peter, he knows his onions around this detective job, and that is why, for years, he has not failed to bring tough perpetrators of
