Chapter One Hundred and One - It can’t be
"K..Kent, you can’t be serious." Roland stuttered as he stared at Kent, dazed.“I am. A friendly competition never hurt anybody,” Kent said. “Right, Jason?”“Not at all,” Jason replied. “That is unless you’re the loser.”Small chuckles escaped Amelia and Franklin’s lips at Jason’s last comment, but Kent just offered him a tight-lipped smile.Jason’s surprise at Kent’s acceptance of the challenge had dwindled. He figured that even though Kent wanted to be president right away, he wouldn’t mind waiting some days and beating Jason while he was at it. He didn’t see Jason as much of a competitor, so to him, it wasn’t a challenge but a delayed victory.“So it’s settled then." Mr. Harrington said, “You both have a month to work on the three issues that Amelia has mentioned. After that, we shall see who’s better suited for the position.”“So the Elysian Syndicate won’t have a president till then?” Victoria questioned.“Amelia will continue running things as she has till then.” Mr. Harrington

Chapter One Hundred and Two - Mr. Harrington
Jason lifted his knuckle and knocked on the door of Mr. Harrington’s office. As he did so, he wondered why the man had asked to see him.“Come in,” he heard Mr. Harrington say from the other side of the door.Jason opened the door and stepped into the office, shutting the door once he was inside. He took a moment to observe the office. Its decor contrasted with everything else at the Elysian Syndicate in the sense that it was more old-fashioned than the modern design of the rest of the building.Mr. Harrington sat behind a large Mahogany desk that looked as old as he was.“Take a seat,” he told Jason, gesturing for him to take the seat on the other side of the desk.Jason sat in the chair as Mr. Harrington told him to, sinking into the comfortable velvet cushioning of the chair as he did.“I’m sure you’re wondering why I called you here,” Mr. Harrington said.“Yes Sir. I hope I didn’t say anything to upset you at the meeting,” Jason said, his tone respectful.“On the contrary, save fo

Chapter One Hundred and Three - Behind closed doors and dark corners
“They know each other?” Jason said to himself as he watched Andrew enter Kent’s office. He wondered if Kent would tell Andrew about the competition for the presidency. If he did that, then Andrew would know Jason had shares in the company, and he didn’t want any of the Sinclairs to know yet.Would eavesdropping be a good idea? Jason thought to himself. Without thinking about it twice, Jason decided to do it.Looking around the hallway, Jason saw that it was empty. He took small and quiet steps closer to Kent’s office door until he nearly closed all distance between himself and the wood.He placed his ear close to the door but could only hear muffled voices.Heaving a sigh Jason realised it was useless. The reason he didn’t want the Sinclairs to know if his position was simple. He didn’t want Stefan to see him as a threat. He thought that once Stefan did, he would try to get rid of him. He wanted Stefan to already be behind bars by the time his position was known."Jason, what’re you d

Chapter One Hundred and Four - ProdigyS Struggles
The list contained the names of the companies and their addresses. The first on the list was a construction company called Prodigy Structures. That was where Jason would start. After getting a few things he needed from the Human Resources department at the Elysian Syndicate and going to his apartment to change, Jason took a taxi to the construction site that Prodigy Structures was currently working on.Arriving at the construction site, Jason was welcomed by dust-filled air, the noise of heavy equipment, and the smell of freshly cut concrete. Workers in hard hats and fluorescent vests were sprawled around the site, each of them tending to a specific task.Jason walked up to a worker who was looking at a building plan.“Excuse me, I’d like to speak to the foreman,” Jason said to the worker as he handed him the employment contract that he had gotten from Human Resources. The worker took the paper from Jason and looked at it. “Follow me,” he said to Jason.Jason followed the worker. Chapter One Hundred and Five - Helping hand
Twenty bags of cement later, Jason's hands were red and throbbing like they were about to pop. They were now decorated with blisters. His muscles were strained, which caused him to be in pain and discomfort every time he moved.“This is all going to be worth it,” Jason whispered to himself as he dropped the twenty-first bag of cement on the top floor.“Need help with those bags, newbie?” He heard someone say He turned to see the person. It was a worker; he was standing next to the foreman, and they were both looking at Jason with wide grins like they enjoyed seeing him suffer. Was he really offering to help? Jason thought.“I could get my little sister to give you a hand, but she may outlift you,” the man said, then burst into laughter, the foreman joining in as they walked away.Taking deep breaths, Jason shut his eyes and tried to calm himself down so he wouldn’t do anything to them that would ruin his plan.“Chop chop, you got nine more to carry. Get to it or I’ll double it,” the

Chapter One Hundred and Six - More than an A hole
“Welcome to my humble abode. It’s not the Ritz, but it’s what I've got,” Connor said as he opened the door to his apartment. It was a small apartment in Queens. Jason stepped in and looked around the place. It was, in fact, small, but he had no complaints. On the contrary, he was grateful to Connor for opening up his home to him.“Don’t be silly, Connor; thank you for letting me stay here; I really appreciate it,” Jason said.“No need to thank me, man. Take a seat. You must be tired after the day you’ve had." Connor pointed at the small couch in the middle of the living room.Jason did as he said and took a seat on the couch. As he sat there, he wondered how he would bring the topic of work up to get the answers that he needed."Hey, don’t get too shaken up about how Danny treated you today. That’s just how things are around there. After a while, you’ll get used to it,” Connor said as he handed Jason a bottle of water.Jason pressed his lips into a tight line. “I figured, although I c

Chapter One Hundred and Seven - Unloading day
The next day was unloading day at the construction site. All the workers were working in the main area. Jason and Connor were doing a hammering job.“What are you doing today, princesses?” Danny said as he walked into the site.“It’s unloading dat boss; that’s why I’ve got them all working here,” Danny’s second in command, Ron, said.“Alright,” Donny nodded. His gaze landed on Jason and Connor. “Give these two double the work; maybe that will teach them who’s boss.”Jason stopped hammering and was about to go off on Danny, but he looked at Connor and decided against it. He glared daggers at Danny, then continued hammering.Ron pulled Danny to the side slightly. “Boss was missing some materials. Steel beams and metal sheets,” he said.Danny frowned and said, “I’ll go check that with the engineers,” and then he walked away. The conversation wasn’t missed by Jason. whose eyes were glued on Danny as he watched him enter the architect's office. He didn’t even realise that he had stopped wor

Chapter One Hundred and Eight - Collapse
Jason and Connor had arrived at the apartment, and it was now late in the evening.Jason walked into the living room to see Connor finishing a plate of spaghetti.“I thought you’d never wake up. I left you a plate in the fridge in case you’re hungry,” Connor said to Jason as he scarfed down what was left on his plate.“Thank you,” Jason said as he sat on the couch with him, “And not just for the food, for everything; you’ve been very generous with me these past few days, Connor. When they pay me, I’ll have to return the favour.”“You mean if they pay you?" Connor said, putting emphasis on the ‘if.“What do you mean?” Jason asked.“I mean, they might not keep you there. Danny’s got his eye on you, and that’s not a good sign. When he doesn’t like someone, it means their days are numbered,” Connor explained. The realisation hit Jason. He obviously didn’t care about the salary, but if he was fired now, his plan would fail."Actually, that’s why I need to ask something of you.” Connor star

Chapter One Hundred and Nine - Defend yourself like a man
At the construction site, Jason’s eyes were still glued to the architect's office. As he looked at the door, he thought about how this all needed to end soon, and all the proof he needed could be behind that door. “What’s wrong with you?” Danny’s voice startled him and interrupted his thoughts. He turned to face Danny’s flinty glare.“Nothing” Jason shrugged his shoulders and went back to work.“I’m not done talking to you,” Danny snapped.Jason inhaled sharply, then looked at Danny and said, “Go on.”“Why were you looking towards the office? I know you don’t want to be an architect. That kind of job isn’t for people like you.”“You have no idea what kind of person I am,” Jason said as he walked away.“I know exactly who you are, Trash. You’re a piece of trash who has no respect for authority,” Danny yelled as he followed Jason.Fed up with Danny Jason stopped walking and turned to face him. “For someone who talks so much about respect, you have no respect for your employees,” he spa

Chapter One Hundred and Ten -Lose Something?
“What the hell happened here?” they said simultaneously as they slowly walked into the apartment. The apartment was in disarray like a tornado had torn through it. The largest couch was turned upside down, and its cushions sprawled across the living room floor. Also scattered across the floor were shards of glass from shattered pictures and shards of broken dishes.“Be careful; there’s glass all over the floor,” Connor warned Jason as they stepped in, his eyes roaming all around his vandalised apartment.“Really? I didn’t notice,” Jason said sarcastically, attempting to lighten the mood. “Who could’ve done this?” Connor asked rhetorically.Suddenly it clicked in Jason’s head, “This is is Danny’s doing. I’m sure of it.”"Unbelievable,” Connor muttered under his breath. He flipped the couch back to its normal position and sat on it, burying his face in his hands. Guilt and rage were rising in Jason as he kept on looking at the state of the apartment.“I’ll get a broom to clean up the
