Chapter 61: Initiating the Plan
By the time we were done fighting the whole place was already in a mess. The walls had been damaged as well as the marble floor. Several chairs and tables lay broken on the floor into several pieces. The once neat and clean restaurant had been turned upside down by the two of them in their battle. "What are we gonna do now?" I asked Stephen. "The people who left are definitely gonna report to the police and when that happens I'll be the one to get arrested." "Don't worry," Stephen said to me as he patted my right shoulder. "I have a way to fix everything. Thankfully no one witnessed our terrifying display of skills or we would have been really screwed." I fell silent before saying, "Then I think we shouldn't meet here anymore. You ca

Chapter 62: Infiltrating
I made my way into an underground sewage that connected with the interior of the police headquarters. There was a high wall of meshed wires around the headquarters with alarms connected to it. Once I tried cutting through the wires, the alarms would sound off and attract the patrolling cops around. I couldn't afford to take such a risk. If I wanted to complete this mission then I should take things softly and silently. I came out of the sewage after some time and studied my environment. I saw several searchlights swirling around, illuminating several places at a time. I saw one of the searchlights swirl in my direction and I immediately retreated into the darkness of the sewage to prevent myself from being spotted by the patrolmen. When the searchlight had left my location I immediately made a dash for it

Chapter 63: Getting the Files
I silently took out my knife and made a small cut on my right palm. Soon the footsteps behind me stopped while the ones in front continued approaching. I heard a clicking sound and then a loud voice. "Freeze! Don't try anything funny or I'll be forced to shoot!" "Activate Rush Absorption," I muttered to the Enigmatic System as I bid my time. "Raise your hands up and go down on your knees!" the cop behind me boomed. The others in front heard the commotion and rushed to where I was. [RUSH ABSORPTION ACTIVATED] [DAMAGE 10%] [RUSH ABSORPTION: 10%] Read more
Chapter 64: Respawning
The man put his hands into his pockets as he walked towards me with the same grim expression. I took a step but I heard several cocking sounds from all the cops. They were ready to shoot any moment from now and there was no way I could use my player skills in the public. That would reveal the secret of the Enigmatic System's existence and expose me to further danger. I didn't want to risk something like that, not after working for so long now to achieve my goals. I couldn't let that happen again, not when I was this close. The man advanced towards me and said, "You should know by now it's futile to resist me, player." At that time I couldn't help but ask, "How do you know I'm a player?" The man decided to answer my question and he said, "It is a c

Chapter 65: Fighting Out
"Don't think I can be killed that easily!" I yelled as I leaped towards the man. Due to my current strength and speed, the ground cracked beneath me as I went off the ground towards the man. "Interesting," the man said as he immediately turned around and clenched his fists. His eyes let out a faint glow as he ran towards me before leaping into the air as well. "But you're still not my match." Bang! Our fists collided and the impact sent a gust of wind spreading in every direction. The bones within that arm shattered instantly as I was sent flying backward again. This time I didn't let myself fall down and landed on my feet. I gritted my teeth through the excruciating pain as my right arm

Chapter 66: Getting Help
"Ah!" I screamed very loudly as I ran towards the man. By now I felt like exploding and I couldn't control myself anymore. I needed to find a way to escape quickly before I died right here. I saw the man let out a faint smile as he watched me move towards him. Normally he shouldn't have been able to see me coming because I was really very fast right now. But he was doing that anyway and I couldn't help but become shocked. I'd never imagined that anyone would be able to see me moving three hundred times faster than my normal speed. It was really shocking. When I got close to him and delivered a punch to his face, he easily grabbed it with his right palm. My momentum was instantly halted at that very moment and the ground beneath me shattered. There was disbelief in my eyes when I saw that the man had stoppe

Chapter 67: Success
Soon the sound of sirens echoed everywhere. Apparently, the cops had begun looking for the criminal who infiltrated the police headquarters and even escaped. But one thing was for sure, I didn't care about anything like that. No matter how they looked for me and Stephen, there was no way they were going to find us. Even though they tried tracing us, it would still be impossible to get us. My Mercedes Benz soon arrived and I and Stephen got into it before it zoomed away at full speed. I recovered silently in the air as it drove automatically. I removed my mask as I did so. "Your car even have an auto drive?" Stephen was surprised as he looked at me relaxing casually behind the steering wheel. "Yeah," I replied immediately.

Chapter 68: Rewards
Stephen recovered from his initial depression and began skimming through all the files. The more he read the cases, the more his eyes became colder. And by the time he was done with going through the files, I felt as if he could kill me any moment from now. This was because his gaze had turned extremely cold and unfamiliar. I couldn't help but wonder why Stephen kept his player personality activated every time. Didn't it take a toll on him like mine does? I mean, my Joker personality was nothing to write home about. It made me crazy and prone to doing crazy things which didn't match my personality. [HOW DOESN'T IT MATCH YOUR PERSONALITY WHEN THAT'S YOUR PLAYER PERSONALITY?] I saw the notification screen in front of me. As usual, the Enigmatic Syst

Chapter 69: Ready to Become My Henchmen
That night I lay on the bed as I stared at the ceiling. I remembered how I'd read a case about Dominic killing an entire family in an accident. And instead of being arrested and punished by the law, everything was swept under cover as if nothing had happened. And so that family of three died without any form of justice or whatsoever. The only person who had survived back then was Stephen who had been immediately chosen by the Buddha System. And now he was now a private detective working with the law to bring criminals to justice. He was now a respectable individual whom the other cops looked up to. To think Dominic had also committed a hideous crime against someone like Stephen Wale and was still breathing made me reevaluate my thoughts of his father, Wade. Did the man hold such power that even Stephen didn't dare stand up to him? Stephen now clearly knew that Domi

Chapter 70: Leveling Up
I smiled as I listened to the ex terrorist talk over the phone. It was at this moment I knew that these former terrorists actually knew a lot of people and places. In terms of connections they were far superior to me! I couldn't help but feel happy that they had joined me. People like this had actually become my henchmen without me even having to try hard. It really felt great and I couldn't help but thank my Luck skill for making this happen to me. It all felt like a dream! Just today I had successfully completed my quest even though I'd not been rewarded by the Enigmatic System. Now I was getting good news that the terrorists had given up crime and were ready to join me. They even promised to bring their other colleagues and introduce me to several people who had been supportive of their cause.Read more
