A friend in danger
When she turned, he waited until she was at her door. She waved, then entered her apartment, the door slamming shut. He waited by the sidewalk for a few minutes, staring at her closed door, wondering if it was going to be too fast if he just went to her door, knocked and then expressed how he felt towards her, and how he had tried to control himself throughout the entire night. But at the same time, he also reminded himself that he was one of the executives in the company where he worked, and he didn't want to do anything that would tarnish his image. He was going to wait until he was sure. Yes, he wanted to wait. Nodding to himself and hoping that he had made the right decision, he drove past the sidewalk and out of her neighborhood, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. * Aurora waited until his car left the sidewalk before she could breathe properly. What in heaven's name had taken him so lon
Date night delight
To Lut, a whole lot meant having to do everything to impress his father who had given him the opportunity to be where he was. But he wasn't sure he wanted to tell that to Aurora yet. “All I've done is make Déjà Vu fast food look good. I have other things to do apart from that. There are other companies to conquer, other conquests to set my sights onto.” Aurora nodded, sipping the champagne. “Ready to go?” “Well, I have to resume tomorrow, isn't that right?” In truth, Lut didn't want the night to end. He had a good time. From being with Aurora to knowing things about her, he wasn't sure that he had ever gotten happy talking to another woman since Ariel. And if there was anything he wanted, it was to put Ariel behind him. He wanted to move on. “I can give you the day off, you know.” Aurora didn't let him finish before she burst out laughing. “No, Lut. Preferential treatment isn't good f

She squealed happily, and he tried his best to resist the urge to tell her to shut it.“I can come with you, yeah? Let me find something to wear.”He shook his head firmly.“No, Ariel. This is strictly boys. Like a boy's night out. One of them is marrying, and we get to have a bit of fun on the bachelor's nights out. I might not come back to the house.”The stare she shot him made him irritated, but he did an awesome job of not showing it.“A bachelors night out, huh? You were really going to go to one of those things, Richard?”He shrugged, taking another sip of the lemonade.“Yes? I was going to go. Did you make this?” He asked, staring at the glass of lemonade. He was asking because while Ariel's mother was an excellent cook, she had never thought it wise to also acquire a bit of her mother's skills. The lazy brat that she was, she preferred to be fed and clothed, to have everything done for her.He could swear that she hadn't made the lemonade he had just consumed.“No, I didn't.

“Where in heaven's name I'm I?”Aurora yawned, staring at her best friend. She had fallen asleep, and Natalie's whiny tone and voice had managed to knock the sleep out of her eyes and her system.Looking at Natalie with eyes that screamed care and affection, she touched her best friend's hand.“You're in Greenroom hospital. The emergency ward. You were shot.”Looking around, Natalie's eyes widened as she recognized that indeed, she was in the hospital. Pouting, she stared at Aurora, as if she had just remembered that they weren't on talking terms.“How long have I been out?”Aurora looked away, aching for a drink. She was tired, dehydrated, and missed her bed. After spending the night with Lut, a night filled with excitement and mixed feelings, she had wanted to end it in bed.But her best friend who she had quarreled with a few days ago had gotten herself in another mess, and once again, it was up to her to clean it up.“I can't say. I came about four hours ago.”Natalie eyed her sus
The deceiver’s snare
He was a heavy thinker, and most nights, you would find him in the backyard, a cigarette in between his lips, looking up at the sky or typing furiously on his laptop keyboard. It made him see that the man was just like any other man, and wasn't invisible in any way.“Oh, okay. And you're going to this party? You know you will get married to my daughter soon, right?”He rarely smiled, but tonight he did. He seemed lighter, happier, as though a huge burden had been lifted off his shoulders. It made Richard wonder if there was something happening in the family or the company that he didn't know about.Richard laughed, slipping on his jacket. He glanced at Ariel, who was helping her mother set the table.“Are you sure you won't stay for dinner? You've not eaten anything reasonable since morning.”He grinned at Ariel, going over to her and kissing her fully on the lips. His hand wrapped her behind in a squeeze, and she swatted at his hand with the slightest of frowns.“Stop it, Richard..”
The meet up
Hal and Richard were different men in profiles. While Hal was about six foot, stronger looking and had a terrifying scar that cut from his chin to his mouth, Richard was shorter, but way more good looking. He didn't look as strong as Hal and wasn't as muscular as him, but there was something about him that made people listen to him when he spoke. That was why Richard was known in the university. Aside from his good-looks, the fact that he could command a crowd had gotten him good job offers in the past. Not only job offers per se. Good posts. Most of the staff in the university recognized his speaking prowess, and this, when they needed somebody to urgently step in for them when it concerned addressing a crowd, Richard was the go to offer. And he always agreed. Now, in the countryside in his girlfriend's home, he wasn't any different. He still spoke and people listened. At least, Hal did.“Are they really good as you say? You know how people here are. They're practically crazy about h
Near death
“No, I haven't. I can't bear the sight of his face. I might end up killing him, you know.”To Richard, Hal's father had done what any other father would've done. He didn't blame the man. They had given Hal everything he requested. He had a truck, thanks to them. He used to have two cars as well, a Benz and the truck, but had sold the Benz a while ago to pay off some debts. The apartment he lived in till this day had been paid for by his father.Richard saw no reason why Hal hated his father, but he knew he wasn't in a position to judge as well. After all,he hated Lut, and the only thing the poor lad had done was date Ariel, who he didn't love either, but was using her status to his advantage.“Well, there you go. We both have our grudges. Allow me to keep mine.”Hal nodded, groaning after throwing the last of the whiskey down his throat.“So, these horses. How do we transport them? How do we even take them from the ranch house without waking the family up?”Richard grinned. He had tho
Risks
“I can imagine your face as soon as you saw the gun. I can't stop thinking about it!”Natalie joined her in laughing, but hers was more controlled. Angry, even.“Well, I panicked. Called Carl's name out loud and began to run, the same way I had come. Then I heard two shots. I felt the pain and saw blood, but I didn't know where it was coming from. Carl screamed, staring at me in a shocked manner.”Aurora stared at her best friend, then put the strands of her hair that were scattered all over her eyes in place as she continued speaking, in a manner that didn't hide how angry she felt.“Next thing I know, I'm on the floor. Extremely weak. Before my eyes closed, I saw her inside the room, the gun in her hand. I wished I had the strength. I wanted nothing more than to yank her jaw and disconnect it from her face.”Aurora smiled.“And where is Carl now? Has he called? How do you know that he isn't with her now?”Aurora looked at Natalie, waiting for an answer, and the look of confusion befo
Automobile
“What do you say, Hal? Found the perfect van yet?”Hal smiled. When he smiled, his scar disappeared completely.“Not yet, McArthur. We've not looked at a lot of vans. But the blue one looks good. We might need to check the engine though. We'd like something smooth, we definitely don't want to go about waking people up. Richard, what do you say? Do you like the blue one?”When he didn't answer, Hal spoke again, his tone not hiding his irritation.“Richard? What in…”“Let's take the black. They're all heavy sleepers in that house and the barn is quite the distance from the main house. The black van is bigger, and black just blends with the darkness. We definitely don't want to be seen, I tell ya.”McArthur nodded, looking at him in awe.“Seems you have the place all figured out.”Richard smirked.“I've been there for the past two weeks.”McArthur’s smile was understanding, but his frown quickly returned.“I see. The black van will cost you two thousand grand.”Richard laughed.“You've g
Surprise!
Aurora smiled at Danny, the doorman. He was a good worker, quite diligent, and had a smile for everybody that showed up at the doors of the consortium.“Hello Danny. Yes, it's a beautiful morning, I have to admit. How are you today?”“Very fine, miss Aurora. And you?”“Likewise, Danny, likewise. Have a wonderful day.”She wasn't fine, but she knew she couldn't start telling the door man about how badly she needed to sleep.Danny had his own troubles, and so did she. As she entered the consortium and went past the cubicles of workers trying to get their various tasks and work done for the day, she found out that her heart was slamming repeatedly in her chest.Aurora wasn't one to deny what she felt. She knew why she was scared. It was Lut. How did one act after going on a dinner date with her boss the previous night? Did she act normal? Ecstatic? She didn't know and she didn't want to call Natalie who was stretched out on the hospital bed for advice. If there was anything, her best frie
