Success at its peak
“Natalie? What do you want? I'm busy now and I don't think I'll be able to have a conversation. What do you want?”The last thing Aurora wanted was another confrontation with her best friend. She wasn't only drained, she was tired. Physically and mentally. When it came to Natalie, if you weren't pleasing her, then you weren't pleasing yourself. She did that to you. She made you regret choking another place for lunch if it wasn't the place she selected. She made you get angry with yourself for picking out another meal if it wasn't what she preferred. That was her best friend in a nutshell, and she was tired of that version of Natalie.“This is me calling to tell you that you should go and do whatever you wish with your house. I'll never need your help ever again. Carl just bought me this house, and you need to see how beautiful it looks. Better than that dump that you stay in….”Aurora rolled her eyes. She wanted to celebrate with her team over the success of Déjà Vu, the fact that it
Surprise surprise
“Just giving you the little gems of the business world. Not everyone is your friend. Not everyone wants you to succeed. You need to know that if you want to go lengths here. Treat everyone as an enemy.”Lut stared at him, shocked. Treat everyone as an enemy? That wasn't his policy. It wasn't even in his plan. To Lutenant James, there was love in sharing. There was kindness in leadership. When your team and the people around you saw your kindness and your sternness, they knew you better. There was no way he was going to treat everyone as his enemy on his way to the top.“Well, I'm not sure my father did that. Most people I've met and who have had things to say about him have said nothing more than how kind he is.”“Your father is a different man entirely. He's one of the strongest men I know…”Lut smiled. He was already tired of the conversation.“I'm as strong as he is, director. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to meet Mr Osman, the CEO of Osman building company. You remember him, ri
The strain of choice
His father grinned in reply. “We aren't going far. Come on.” “Is director Edward not coming?” Lut asked as he slipped into the cool interior of the car, then slipped on his gloves, whilst watching director Edward who stood at a single place, watching the car as it drove out of the premises. “Nope. He's going to be my representative. In case anyone needs me.” The driver who was at the wheel stared at the rearview mirror, his eyes asking questions. “To Chain Chain consortium.” Lut raised another eyebrow. The company was just a short distance from Déjà vu, and he wondered what his father wanted to show him that couldn't wait until after the party. The driver nodded, changing gears, and putting his foot down on the accelerator. “This is the beginning, son. You're going to be bigger than me, I can feel it. You being in the midst of those men, I didn't see an uneasy young man, but a man who is willing to lea
Vulnerability and victory
“Can't believe I have just gotten a job offer from the Seahawks!” It was Clara, and the joy on her face knew no bounds. She was extremely ecstatic with the news. Aurora laughed. She hadn't gotten anything yet, but she was certain that before the next day, her email was bound to break down because of the amount of mails she was sure to receive. “That's great, Clara. What does the opportunity look like?” “They have a project they are meaning to start by the end of the month, and their representative just told me that they'll love it if I can tailor my schedule and try to see if I can be the ambassador of the project.” Aurora grinned. She was happy for Clara. It was the perfect job for her also, because Aurora had never seen a woman who was so obsessed with her socials like Clara. There was Natalie, but while Natalie used her own for stalking rich young men, Clara used her huge following to document her life, her work place, a
The ask
“For once, Aurora, let go of work. Please.” She smiled, and as if he took that as a cue, he continued speaking. “Come with me to Bite and Brew tomorrow evening. They're launching their steakhouse menu, and seeing what they've done in the past with their menus, I can tell that this one will be outstanding.” She stared at him, her mouth going dry at the moment. “Okay.. yes…what time?” She strutted, panicking at the last moment. Was she actually thinking straight? Was it real? Her boss had just asked her out on a date! “Oh, I'll have my driver come pick you up between the hours of six thirty to seven. How's that?” She fidgeted, her fingers trembling slightly. She dipped it into her coat to hide the trembling, before answering. “Yes, that will be just fine.” “Alright. Goodnight and see you tomorrow, Aurora.” Outside, as she slipped into her mother's old model Benz, she waited for a momen
First date dilemma
She had never been to Bite and Brew, but she had seen pictures, and she knew that it was a formal setting. Not exclusively formal, but it was a nice place. Beautiful lights, splendid table clothes, and according to reviews she had seen online, excellent customer and deliver service. It meant that it was a good place, but it also left her with the problem of not knowing what to wear. At that moment, she wished that Natalie was in her house, and they had never quarreled in the first place. Opening the oven, she retrieved the apple pie she had been baking, her mother's favourite recipe. Staring at it, she seemed to acknowledge how lonely her life was. A huge cake, but nobody was there to eat the cake with her. It was saddening. Scooping a spoonful into her mouth, she wondered if it was weird if she packaged some in a foil bag for Lut. Was she doing too much? It was only their first date. So how was she goin
PERFECT COIFFURE FOR THE PERFECT DATE
“You like her, Lut. There's no harm in admitting it.”If there was anything Lut loved about the conversation that they were having, it was the fact that she had stopped referring to him as a lord. She had been his sister in his former life, and he wanted her to remain so.He wasn't buying the name and the title calling.“Who wouldn't like her? She's an excellent worker. Pays attention to detail, knows where and when to be. She's one of those people that you leave your problems to and know that they'll solve it without problems. That's Aurora.”Mia shrugged. She ate, then patted her hair.“Do you need help picking out what to wear? Or taking you to a better barbershop?”Lut stared at her, surprised.“Are you saying my barber isn't good enough?”“Well, some are better than others. He's good, yes, but I know a guy that can do better, even slightly. Dress up, and I'll take you there. You'll be ready before six thirty.”When she left the dining room, Lut found himself suddenly conscious of
Bite and brew
The last thing Aurora wanted to talk about on the date was work. “Well, I believe it's going to be successful. You turn literally everything you touch to gold.”He laughed before continuing.“Yes, yes. But I want to let you know that no matter how far the project is, you're going to be the team leader. Even if it is on a different continent.”“Thank you.” She said, doing nothing to stifle the laughter that shot out of her system. The exterior of Bite and Brew was lit with lights that guided anybody coming from the outside into the parking lot. As Lut parked, Aurora found herself comparing the sizes of Bite and Brew to Déjà Vu.Bite and Brew was slightly bigger, and that was because there was only a single building in the premises. And yes, she muttered to herself, extremely satisfied, her designs were way better. She didn't want to say it out loud, but she took great pride in seeing the differences between the two buildings.“Good evening sir. Good evening ma. Welcome to Bite and Br
A dash of romance
“Does this mean I have the right to say anything during this meal without my job being at stake?”Staring at her brilliant smile, Lut only wanted to tell her that as long as she looked so good, she could ask him anything and get away with it.She was beautiful. Even if she hadn't accepted his invitation to go out with him on a dinner date, he was certain that he was going to continue asking her. That was how smitten he was by her.“Yes, your job isn't at stake, miss Aurora.”She laughed, eating the shrimp cocktail that they had chosen as an appetizer. He wasn't particularly hungry, but he wanted to eat to impress her. He didn't want her to feel left out or anything. “Well, I've always wanted to ask. How come you say you never knew that Mr James was your father until recently? I find that very awkward. Every man with a rich fatter surely knows who his father is. You're not any different.”He smiled. He liked Aurora and the energy she gave, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to give o
Uncertainty
“We're selling the company.”Ariel stared at her father, her eyes widening. He was doing what? That company was the reason she had always put in a lot of effort at school. That company was one of the reasons she had loved her father even though she knew that he was somewhat selfish and self centered. It made her believe that he always wanted to make the life of his family better, to the extent that people around him suffered. And now he wanted to sell the company? What was going to be her inheritance? Why now, when she was ready to get married? When her father had called her from the ranch while she had been checking out the horses and the other farm animals with Richard, she had expected him to say something about the wedding. But this piece of news was different. She hadn't expected it at all.And staring at her mother who was focused on the lemonade she was making without saying a word, she wanted to scream out loud.“Sell the company? You've got to be kidding me. You can't sell t
