POV; Hassan story
Fatima woke up groggily, her head spinned and her eyelids felt heavy. “Her mouth was gagged and her hands and legs were tied together. “Where was she, she thought, as he looked around her surroundings. Sue founded herself in some kind of big box. Then she remembered everything. “Papa had made her unconscious and tied her up afterwards. She struggled to free herself but the bonds were secure. She gave up as the bonds seemed to get tighter and bit into her skin, the more she struggled to get loose. There was a crack in the box she was in. She saw Papa on the floor with guards around him. The place the box sat in was dark whereas they were dimly lit so she saw everything with anyone seeing her. Advisor Thadron was talking now, gloating at his capture; she also heard them as the room echoed. To her surprise, Hassan came out from behind the guards. He seemed to be with them. “And the look on his face as he faced Papa was full of hate. She could not comprehend what she was seeing. He said something in a low voice to Papa that she could not hear. She looked at his face, he had now gotten up from the lying position he was in and was now kneeling on the cold granite floor. “Don't be too surprised, you should have known all along but I guess you were wrapped up in your family reunion. Hassan said coldly. Fatima was speechless. When he had changed like this, he had stayed in kedran longer than them but it had only been a week difference. Was one week enough to change him, she responded. “You must be dying of curiosity, so let me explain it to you, " he said. “For a long time, I have always hated the way you raised us; your rules and teachings. They were all lies and hypocrisy. I watched you sometimes, you don't follow what you teach. And our family always had a strange vibe to it. “No one from our family ever came to visit. You claim they were all dead. “Mama too never told any story of her past, she always seemed scared and far off whenever it came up. Mysteriously we didn't even have birth papers, you claim it was lost in a fire accident. Slowly I started suspecting foul play as I grew up but I couldn't put a finger to it so I went in search of the truth. Hassan paused there and looked around for dramatic effects. “Turned out we weren't from Kaduna in the first place. “I traced our home land to calabar. I was shocked, you've made us live a lie all our lives. “Fatima couldn't believe what he was saying. Goosebumps appeared on her skin, it had to be a lie. Calabar. “I tried to find out why you left there, " He continued, "it seems you were accused of witchcraft and of killing your father. The villagers Banished you from the town and you went to Kaduna to make a fresh start. Of course in this age, nobody believes in witches. “We are in the 24th century after all. But I persisted in research and traveled to Calabar to find the truth. “I met my grandmother, your mother. She immediately recognized me and knew what I had come for. She told our story, our lineage had been witches for a long time and how they always had to contend with the myth and fear associated with them. “She said you killed your father by mistake, you couldn't control your powers at the time. She also said you had been so remorseful that you renounced magic and cut off all ties with your family when you left the village with mama. “None of the relatives were alive. They all died of different causes. Grandma stayed on. She said she had foreseen that I would come and wanted to be around to make sure that the powers didn't die with her. She aroused my powers with an awakening ritual since it had been dormant for a long time. She gave me a talisman to give to Fatima. “I came home not knowing how to deal with the situation. I confronted Mama, she finally admitted and confirmed what grandma already said. “But she begged me not to confront you. She said you did it for our good. I agreed to her request and promised to keep it a secret. “I gave the talisman to her to give Fatima and when she felt the time was right. “A year later, Mama became sick. I watched her grow worse as I tried different healing spells that I had practiced myself “I asked her why you didn't heal her, she said you already tried, but your powers were too weak as he hadn't used them for a long time. “I was angry when I heard this. But again, she begged me not to confront you and she repeated her request just before she died. “I became wild after her death and hanged around with the wrong company. Then the kedrans came. I expected you to use your powers to defend our village at least. “To finally tell Fatima and I what you've been hiding from us, but you were WEAK, Hassan shouted out as he slapped Papa. Papa took it without flinching and Fatima felt for him. It was an abomination for a son to slap his father but up here, it was one of the earthly laws that she felt didn't matter again. Hassan seemed transformed to something feral. The veins in his neck strained and bulged as he shook with anger pointing at Papa. Advisor Thadron placed his hand on his shoulder and whispered something to him. He suddenly became calm and collected and Fatima saw the hint of an evil smile curl at the corner of his mouth. “I don't know what I would have done if Advisor Thadron hadn't found me and discovered my powers. We wanted Fatima on our side so he gave her the talisman which I gave him. “At the right time, we'll also train her, so once again old man. You've failed. “Your plan to allow Black magic to die in our bloodline didn't work. “This is a powerful tool and you should have given us a choice before you hide it from us. Magic is very dangerous in the untrained or wrong hands, son. “I'm sorry for hiding this all these while but it was for your good, " Papa said, speaking for the first time since his capture. Advisor Thadron now moved closer to him. “I warned you, I told the messenger to tell you not to go ahead with this but you disregarded it. Your son and I would do great things here, we'll overthrow the Emperor, and when I rule, he'll be by my side as my personal magician. “You know we can't let you live with all that has happened. Your service to the Rebel movement won't be forgotten though, he said with a slight chuckle. “Hassan, he called.” Hassan came forward, he flicked his wrists as they watched and a huge ball of fire came out of his hands and was suspended in the air. The guards nearby jumped back in fright and they all looked in awe as the flames rose higher, lengthening the shadows and making them dance about on the walls of the room. Goosebumps rose on Fatima’s skin as she watched this. For some reason she was now scared of what she was seeing. The flames balls left Hassan’s hand and hovered in the air, casting a brilliant yellow light in the room and bringing everyone in the room to view. “Goodbye, Old man. Hassan said.” “Take care of Fatima, Papa said in a low voice. She was surprised that he still looked at Hassan with love in his eyes. “The flames ball speed down and hit papa fully on the chest leaving a black gaping hole and the smell of burnt meat in the air. “He crumbled down before he could do anything. The light in the room was low again as the only dim incandescent bulb shone. “The guards left the room gradually in groups of three. Hassan was the only one left, he looked long at the dead body of his father then noiselessly left the room to join the others.POV; the knife Fatima struggles to free herself from the bonds. Her head was buzzing and grief welled up as hot tears spilled out of her eyes. “Papa was dead. She now only has Hassan in the world who was a monster. Revenge flooded her heart as adrenaline coursed through her but first, she needed herself. As she inched closer to the walls of the crate, she felt something familiar on the floor. A knife. Papa had dropped it so she could free herself, even in his death, she thought, he was still helping her. Freeing herself wasn't going to be easy, she thought. Her hands are tied behind her, not in front. She laid on the ground wriggled her hands about for the knife. Her hands closed around the hilt and she raised it up curving it inwards to the rope on her wrists. She started moving the blade in an up and down motion. The code resisted at first, but gradually they weakened. But it was a long process and her hands grew tighter. She stopped and did intervals. Gradually they came
POV; The ceremony Advisor Thadron entered the room looking steadily at Fatima, she didn't acknowledge his presence.“She was lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling. The guard stood at the door unsure of what to do.Advisor Thadron dismissed him, and he left, closing the door behind him. “As soon as the door was shut, she leaped from the bed aiming a kick at his chest. But she couldn't see him again, and with nothing to support her, she fell to the ground heavily. She heard a chuckle behind her and she looked back to see him sitting on her bed. “I anticipated that, he said.”How had he moved there so fast? She then remembered that he could teleport.“So, you were in the craft that day. My men found your talisman in the room and signs of your father's body being moved, he said, dropping her talisman on the bed. “Bastard, you made Hassan kill him, she spat out, feeling the need to avenge Papa.He faked a mock surprise.”“Me? No I didn't. Hassan was very clear on that, he ver
POV: A pawn Advisor Thadron couldn't believe what Hassan said.“Not a witch? How does that work, explain’ he said. Coming closer to them to confirm the theory. “According to my research, the power can skip some people in a bloodline, making them unable to perform magic like the rest of their family.Hassan said, with a composed expression now. He had arranged his facial features to be unconcerned after being disappointed by her.“In that case we'll have to kill her then, she's of no use to us and would expose us if given the chance, " he said , grabbing the ceremonial dagger from Hassan and heading towards Fatima.Hassan held him back by the hand, he looked up in surprise at the hand and looked up to Hassan.“Sorry Boss, Hassan said, pulling back his hand. It's just that I think she should continue her training at the institute. “Even if she doesn't emerge as one of the top three finalists, we can use her as an assassin for our curse, her stubborn streak will serve her well there,
POV: The heart of a Wizard Hassan reflected on the shocking recovery as he sat in his room at Advisor Thadron’s spatial residence.Fatima wasnoa witch. He mulled over the matter in his mind as its ramification. He wondered if he had made the right choice in advising Advisor Thadron to keep her at the institute. He wanted her to understand him and join the cause.“But she had been so angry and clearly wanted nothing to do with him. She didn't understand that Papa's death was necessary. The tasks ahead were great. By killing Papa, he had absorbed his powers which he was not using anyways. “He would have died since his views were too idealistic for the Rebel movement.Papa had always been a leader and he would have formed a faction within the movement.“He Hassan had predicted all this and had chosen the better option of killing him now for the greater good. “If anything Fatima should be thanking him, " he thought, nodding his head. Unfortunately she was still blinded by sentiment
POV; a world Apart. “Whew, papa, the sun is too hot, " Fatima complained as she tugged her hijab which now glistened with sweat and stuck to her skin. “Stop complaining, we're almost there, take this, " he said, pulling out an aluminum-color water bottle from a brown leather satchel slung across his shoulder. She quickly took it and drank its content, water was scarce in kadra, it was stimulated in the lab by the planter's scientist and rationed out to the humans twice a day. She remembered that it was Papa's water and stopped herself in time. She had already drunk hers for breakfast. “Now try to get along with your classmates, when they see you being friendly, maybe they won't bully you,’ her father said, looking steadily at her as he spoke. “Papa, some kids just bully others for the fun of it, "I..-" “Kencha,’ he said, cutting her off. “What? I don't understand; she asked, puzzled by his angry eyes. “I've told you before, we're not on earth anymore, don't call me
POV; the talisman. Fatima survey the school ground. It was more like a fortress, evidently the kedrans didn't care about art, she didn't see any since she arrived. They were cold logical creatures, and it reflected in their architecture. "She expected the advisor to give her a tour of the school but he had been immersed in a holographic call. The kedrans were shattered evenly across the grounds, though Fatima didn't see any students. "They weren't much different from humans except for their blazing white hair, uniform, hazel eyes and tall proportions. They were an advanced race though and had a perfected space travel before humans and found fire. They had conquered much of the milky way but found close kin in humans, after wiping out 70% of the population, they made the rest subservient. Fatima was glad that Mama did not live long to see the abomination, she was one of the lucky once that died from natural causes. Her brother, Hassan was wiped out along with others, s
POV; Assassin's The oak door opened with a loud creak, Fatima couldn't see who opened it as the inside was pitch black, she groped her way in the dark and felt the walls. She let it guard her as she moved slowly forward. The dark reception led into one of the largest halls she had seen in her life. Countless students of different species lined up in a neat rows that streched all the way back to the entrance, gleaming chandeliers hung from the high ceiling. "There was a large marble table in the center of the hall where two men and a woman sat. The woman and one of the men where kedrish; the man had an air of authority, he wore his white hair in a tight bun a had a sling over his eye, he wore a red and white attire which were the colors of the federation. His crooked face and his broken nose completed the picture of an experience soldier. "The woman beside him was younger than he was, though her stern face made her look older. She was dressed similarly to the man in federat
POV; first exams. Loud alarms blared in the environment of the kedran training school rousing its occupants. Fatima looked at the blinking time dial above the bed, it was 7: am. "She had fallen asleep the previous night soon after the speech. She dimly remembered skipping dinner and asked a guard for directions to the female quarters. She studied her new room with interests, it was small and sparsely furniture, a table and a chair sat in the right corner. The bed she was sitting on occupied a lot of space in the room and creaked on the slightest movement. Evidently comfort was a priority to the kedrans. She had not brought anything of hers to the school as they had been confiscated upon her arrival to kedran by the space officials. "She had waken up to see a grey spandex like over all folded nearly on her bed. She heard movement outside her door, she stood up and went closer to the door to listen. She heard girls chatting among themselves. They were all going to the ba
