Chapter 4

Elvis went down the memory lane as memories of the past flooded through his head. His shock soon melted into anger as he prevented his father from throwing a hug at him.

"What do you want from me? I thought that you said you never wanted to see my face again."

I thought you wanted me dead right and that was the reason that you threw me into the street right." Elvis brewed out the anger that he had bottled up all this while.

"Or you want to force another loveless marriage down my throat again? After all these years that I have been forced to leave on the streets like a taunt?"

There was pain in the eyes of his father but he could not see it even for a single moment.

While he continued to rant, wanting to spill out all the words that he had in stock in his mind for all these years, he heard a voice that made him pause."

"I'm sorry Elvis." Mr. Ford finally apologized.

The words seemed to pull him off from the world of his anger as he met with a swift stop, words failing him almost immediately.

Mr. Ford walked gradually over to Elvis until he was close enough for Elvis to sense the air that came out from his nostrils.

"I know that I was wrong trying to force something on you that you never wanted." His eyes were genuine as he spoke.

"I'm ready to make up for all my mistakes Elvis, just give me a chance, that's all I ask for." He said.

Elvis could already sense the pain that was laced all over his voice. It was genuine but even at that, he was still finding it difficult for him to believe.

There was pain in his eyes, the father that he knew was the domineering type, always imposing his will on other people.

Saying his father switched so swiftly was something that he could not comprehend.

"Please forgive me and I will never try to impose my will on you."

"I want you to return to your position of being the heir and my son." Mr. Ford kept on saying as the words streamed off into Elvis hearings.

There was pain in his eyes. Seeing his father being so remorseful, he wanted to reach out to him and hugged him tightly.

But as much as he wanted to do this, he could not help it but remember the promise that he had made to himself during those ugly years.

He was never going to return back to his father as long as his mother was away from the house and he had to keep his promise or it was only going to make him less of a human.

And his apology was not going to bring back his mother.

He shook his head slightly, forging ahead to say.

"I have forgiven you already, father. But I can't return back here. I already made a promise to myself." Elvis revealed.

His father drew a really deep breath, nodding his head almost immediately as a slight cough escaped from the mouth of his father.

A slight nod escaped afterwards and he finally went ahead to say.

"I understand. You have every right to refuse to return." He sighed once again.

"But before you go, I wanted to show you something." He said.

"Please come with me." He beckoned to Elvis.

Elvis was about coming to his father to this strange place but after giving it some thoughts for a while, he realized that was going to be his last gesture to

With a slight nod, he followed his father slowly from behind until they finally got into a room.

He could already feel his heart pumping faster at the thoughts of what lay in wait for him.

Finally, they got into a room. There was a sick person at the far end of the room with adequate medical instruments.

Making their way towards the sick old lady on the bed, the recognition that hit him ripped his heart swiftly into shreds.

"Mother!" The words escaped from his mouth.

Her hair was gray and her eyes baggy. Placing her hands swiftly over his cheek, a strand of tear escaped from her eyes.

"Elvis, I never thought that I would be able to see you again." She said,

Elvis held her hands so tightly that he could feel the warmth. "I'm glad that we are all together now."

"You should forgive your father and return to him, now that he has realized his mistake." He finally added.

He opened his mouth to speak but words failed him almost immediately.

"I miss you too Mother."

After a while, they left the room as the doctor in charge Walked towards their direction.

Elvis walked swiftly towards him with so much urgency in his eyes.

"Tell me what's wrong with my mother right away." A shrill cry escaped from his mouth.

His father pulled him off from the doctor swiftly and whispered into his ears.

"Let go of him. I am going to tell you all about it." Mr. Ford finally whispered into his ears once again.

"So what's wrong with mother?" He finally inquired once again when they finally got into a room.

"Marrow cancer." There was pain in his eyes as he said the words.

"Saying that she has just a few days to live would mean that I am being generous with Words." He finally added.

"What!" He exclaimed quickly.

"You have to be lying to me right? Nothing can happen to my mother. Not when I am still here." He cried out swiftly.

But from the looks that were hanging on the face, it expressed everything that needed to be said.

Elvis fell back to his chair, his face washed up with so much emotion that he couldn't even tell how she was feeling.

"Elvis, I don't want you to rely on my wealth alone, I want you to build yours." He added once again but Elvis was finding it difficult to understand the message that Mr. Ford was trying to pass across to him.

"I'm sorry that we have to leave you this early." He said with his head bowed.

The words seemed to resound in his head, pulling a string that paved way for more meanings to the words.

"What do you mean by we father?" He exclaimed, his expression washed up with so many emotions.

"I'm also sick. A terminal illness. There is no cure for it either."

It seemed as though his words were falling apart right before him as he exclaimed afterward.

"No. It can't be true. You are joking, right? Please tell me that it is really, I am going to forgive you." He said swiftly.

His Father shook his head, walking slowly towards him and hugging him tightly.

"I wished that it was a joke too. I am sorry." His father hugged him tightly.

"I am going to be transferring all my properties to you. You have to be strong." He finally said.

There was a sudden pause in the hall as he slumped back to his seat. "If there is anything that you want to do for us, that would be to be strong." He finally said.

"I know it's going to be difficult for you but you have to start administering my consortium." He finally said.

But Elvis quickly shook his head without looking up at his father even for a single moment as he said.

"I don't want any of that, I just want my parents back." He noted.

"I know it's going to be difficult for you but we never want you to feel sad because of us. This is my last wish and I want you to promise me."

His face was shattered, and his heart tore right into shreds as he could not know what to say.

His heart continued to beat hard against his chest as though it was going to burst through.

This was his father's last wish and he knew that he could not say no for an answer.

With the pain still there, his voice flickered as he rose up and said.

"Okay, father. I will do just what you have said." He finally said with a deep breath of fresh air.
