Chapter 3

“Richard and Anastasia, I will never forgive you for what you’ve done to me, for using me, for lying to me, and for slapping me in my face, I promise to give you a hard slap in future.” His statement rang in his head as he walked in the lonely street, returning home.

He was baffled as he didn’t know if he had done the right thing.

“What are you doing here?” Mrs. Wayles and her son, Kaiden stopped him at the entrance. His father, who might have helped him was nowhere to be found.

“Mum, I’m back.” He began. “I assume you were angry yesterday and I believe you have cooled off now, can I get in?” He ignored the arrogant look on Kaiden’s face while speaking with their mother.

“Are you deaf?” Kaiden shoved his mother off and pushed him on his shoulder. “They warned you never to come back here, why did you come back?” Kaiden spat on his face.

“Kaiden, please. We shouldn’t start on a rough path every time we meet.” He begged.

“I hate you and I don’t want to see you. Now, leave this place!” Kaiden yelled in anger.

“This is also my home, Kaiden.” He reminded him vividly.

“It’s not your fucking home, you bastard!” Kaiden slapped him on his face, Mrs. Wayles didn’t interrupt them, rather a smile formed on her lips.

“What?” He was astonished. “Are you all serious? You can’t chase me away at this point, where can I go?” He cried out.

“Guards! Drive this freak of a man out of here and make sure you don’t let him in the next time he comes!” Kaiden instructed the guards seriously and they nodded, charging over to Maximus.

“Let me go! Let me go!” He struggled from their grip until they finally pulled their hands away.

“I know the way out.” He grunted, giving them a dirty look before leaving the mansion.

“Mum, I thought you told the security not to let him in, how did this happen?” Kaiden questioned his mother in disgust.

“I think your father has a hand in this.” Mrs. Wayles rubbed her chin.

“My dad? What is he trying to do? Is he trying to use that brat against me?” Kaiden yelled in anger, his fist clenching.

“I…” Mrs. Wayles began but paused when Kaiden started walking away. “Where are you going?” Mrs. Wayles questioned anxiously.

“To meet with Dad.” That was Kaiden’s last word as he headed over to where the cars were packed.

As he walked on the street, he got different comments from passersby and familiar friends but he didn’t care because something huge was coming his way.

He got a message that his application was approved and he was eligible to get the job he applied for which was worth millions of dollars, which was more important to him now.

When he got to the CLEARANCE SECURITY firm, he saw a lot of people, dressed in suits and nicer outfits which was worth millions. He gradually looked at himself and inwardly, he knew his entire outfit wasn’t worth two hundred dollars.

“What are you doing here?” A familiar voice called out, filled with laughter and his eyes rolled over to the direction.

It was Anastasia and Richard.

He rolled his eyes in disgust. “It’s none of your business.” He mumbled.

“Don’t tell me you also came for this job man.” Richard laughed, dusting his shoulder. “Don’t run faster than your shadow, you ain’t worth working here.” Richard spat on his face with a hitch of mockery and sarcasm in his tone.

“You have no right to dictate my life for me!” He gritted his teeth in anger before pushing his hands off.

Soon, one of the staff in the company approached them. He seemed to be close with Richard as they shook hands.

Anastasia showed off their relationship by kissing Richard and resting on his chest, this sight disgusted Maximus but he held himself.

He was ashamed in their stead.

“You must be Mr. Maximus.” The staff asked him and he nodded, raising a brow.

“Yes.”

“We received your application but we are sorry, you are not eligible for this job.” The staff said vividly, staring into his eyes that started rolling.

“What?” He gasped. “But, I got a message from this company. They approved my contract and….” He tried to reach out for his phone, the trio laughed while the staff rested a hand on his shoulder.

“Our system got hacked, I’m sorry that message wasn’t from us.” The staff explained to him.

“What?” Without another word, the staff left, leaving Maximus in dismay. His jaw dropped.

“You will never make it in life, Max. You only look pitiful, that was why I gave you a chance.” Anastasia laughed.

“Bye man, I doubt if you have extra cash for transportation.” Richard shrugged, bringing out some dollar bill from his pocket. “Here.” As Maximus reluctantly tried to receive it, Richard intentionally dropped it.

“Oh, I’m sorry, it fell off.” Richard laughed in mockery and Anastasia joined him as they left the company.

“NO!” He yelled at the top of his voice, as his eyes became red.

Why was his life miserable? He was human too, why was he being treated like a rag?

“Father, please, can I meet you secretly in your office?” He said immediately the caller picked up the call. As he spoke on the phone, he left the company.

“Sure.” Mr. Wayles' voice came out from the phone after a brief moment of silence.

He arrived at his father’s multi-international company, which deals in producing electronics like phones and laptops, they are also developing hackers too.

He smiled happily as he strolled into the workspace, meeting his father alone meant he could apologize and beg for a second chance.

But his jaw dropped when he saw Kaiden in his father's office.

“Fa…father.” He stammered as he walked into the office, looking scared.

He trusted his father, and he had hopes for his father but does this mean he could no longer trust anyone? His father used him!

“You are here again….” Kaiden groaned.

“I… I…” He stuttered.

The two guards standing behind Kaiden kept on punching their palms.

“I warned you to leave before he comes, didn’t I?” Mr. Wayles scoffed in annoyance.

“But…” He began but was interrupted.

“I will never let you leave here scout-free. I will give you a beating of your life.” Kaiden said angrily, in a frightening tone as he signaled the guards.

Before Maximus could reach for the door, one of the guards held his shoulder so strongly, he couldn’t make another move.

“Father!” He cried out but his father turned his back at him. Kaiden laughed, loving the show as another guard punched him in the face.

His mouth bled.

“Help!!” No matter how he shouted, the guards bounced on him, punching him and slapping him.

As he tried to run away, his head crashed on the hard wall.

“Argh!!” He groaned in pain as he fell.
