Chapter 6

“He stole that money! That money is mine!” Mr. Wayles yelled in the precinct. “Believe me when I say he stole that money from me!” Mr. Wayles added seriously.

Neglecting a proper investigation, it was obvious that Maximus was a thief. His class didn’t meet up with his family and he was looking like a poor rag who would do anything to level up.

“Officer, believe me, I didn’t steal their money.” He began, ignoring the deadly glares from his family members.

“I was chased out of the family house with nothing, not even a clothes or a penny! I don’t have access to their card or password to their phone, how can I transfer money?” He asked staring at their faces but the officers dint look interested in his explanation.

“This money is mine whether you believe it or not.” He said with certainty.

“You stole my husband’s money yet you still have the guts to speak!” Mrs. Wayles gave him a dirty slap and one of the officers stepped in.

“Mrs. Wayes, I understand that you are annoyed but since he is with the officers, I would advise you refrain from assaulting him.” The officer warned her politely.

“She wouldn't have slapped him if he wasn't acting like a big thief!” Kaiden scoffed.

“If a poor man has money, he turns out to be a thief but if a rich man makes money, no one dares to question him.” He looked at them. “Is this how miserable the world is or you all are pinned on getting rid of me?” He questioned in annoyance and they rolled their eyes sarcastically.

“Mr. Maximus, we are trying to believe you but it’s impossible.” The detective walked in with a notepad in his hands. He greeted the Wayles before turning to him.

“You graduated from university two years ago and since then, you have no job. The last job you had was disapproved, rather loan apps and creditors are on your neck.” The detective paused. “And suddenly, the sum of five million dollars surfaced in your account. How did this happen for one who is jobless and has no family?” The detective curled his lips, asking anxiously.

“I… I… The thing is…” He stuttered, unable to defend himself.

“I told you.” Mr. Wayles laughed a belly laugh. “He has zero and is nothing but a thief! He stole my money because I abandoned him and pushed him out of the house!” Mr. Wayles concluded vividly.

“I see more reason why he should be imprisoned and rot in jail!” Mrs. Wayles added more petrol to the burning fire.

“Please believe me, this money is mine!” He cried out.

“I went through hell to make this money.” He informed them dolefully.

He would have saved himself but who would believe him if he said some strange system gave him a task and when it was accomplished, he was given five million dollars.

At the thought of this, he shook his head.

Getting money was one thing but explaining how you made the money was another. His life was created to be miserable forever.

“I know him as a very poor man, I think you should believe his family that he stole it because he can never afford anything since we have been dating. He is nothing but a poor brat.” Anastasia strolled into the precicnt.

It seemed she had been bribed to come and make a mess of him because there was a BMW car key in her hand which she flaunted. Anastasia would never buy such a car because she had nothing. It's either it was attained through bribery or prostitution.

“What? Ana! We have no business together so don’t try to mess up with me!” He shunned her.

“Mr. Maximus, if you don’t provide evidence on how you made this money or who sent this to you, then you might end up in jail.” The detective’s voice came up again. The detective has been quiet, observing the situation.

Maximus knew he was at a loss, everyone surrounding him was his family’s people, they have been bribed that even his begging and explanations wouldn’t save him.

[System Protection: Ask for Account Statement] The robotic voice finally surfaced.

Maximus thought it had disappeared since he had fallen into a mess but it seemed it was still in him, on his side.

“Bank statement?” He thought inwardly as his brows furrowed. “Who would believe the sender to be some TYS? That company doesn’t exist.” He shook his head, others were wondering why he was making some strange body movement.

It ended in laughter as they thought he was doomed and couldn’t save himself.

“I… I want to see my account statement.” He said.

“Account statement?” Mr. Wayles laughed. “For what?” Mr. Wayles raised a brow.

“You want evidence, right?” He questioned and almost everyone nodded impatiently.

“Then, call the bank manager to come here with my account statement.” He said vividly, sounding authoritative. His voice was filled with command which irked Kaiden.

“Fine! I will call him and make sure you church rat never have a voice again!” Kaiden scoffed.

The tension was in the air, by this time, Anastasia had gone because of an emergency as she quoted.

Soon, the manager of RICH STATE Bank stepped into the precinct and everyone exhaled in relief.

It was time to know the truth.

“Are you with the account statement of this bastard?” Mr. Wayles fired at him as soon as he came closer to them.

“Sir…” The manager stopped talking as his eyes landed on Maximus, they quivered. The manager had a feeling of guilt.

“What is it? Show it to me.” The detective urged him.

“Sorry sir, it seems we are mistaken, your son is a multi-billionaire and an investor in the trending YC company.” The manager spilled and everyone gasped in disbelief.

“What? What are you saying?” Mr. Wayles' eyes were filled with anxiety.

He had tried to join the YC company more than a hundred times but all his investment was rejected.

How did his useless abandoned son gain access to invest with them?
