Chapter 7

“YC… what?” He almost gasped but held his curiosity.

“What do you mean? This scumbag is my son and I know what he can do!” Mr. Wayles spat, insisting that there had been a mishap somewhere.

“Are we not missing something here or mixing his case with someone else? My useless brother can never make sure wealth in his entire life.” Kaiden adjourned seriously.

“There is no mistake, take a look at it.” The Manager's hand was shaking as he gave Mr. Wayles another copy of Maximus' account statement.

“This has to be a prank.” Mr. Wayles' jaw dropped.

“I'm sorry but we have to grant his release immediately. And of course, Mr. Wayles will take charge of paying his bail.” The detective said, handing the documents to the officer.

“What? I can't pay… his bail.” Mr. Wayles used the right word for the first time.

“You have to pay his bail, first because you accused him of theft and also you created this case. We can't charge Mr. Maximus.” The officer explained to him meticulously as another officer freed Maximus.

“Don't think this is the end. Whatever plan or trick you played, I swear I'm going to get to the bottom of this.” Kaiden snorted in annoyance.

“I will leave now.” He said and left the precinct.

“This… this…” Mrs. Wayles couldn't stand the sight so she rushed out of the precinct.

“Fine!” With a deep exhale, Mr. Wayles walked to the counter with the office, while Kaiden followed his mother outside.

A few hours later, they met Maximus at the front of the precinct. He was still waiting for a cab.

They approached him which he noticed but ignored them.

“You won this time but it's not the end.” Mrs. Wayles scoffed, rolling her eyes.

“What do you want this time?” He managed to speak after a brief silence.

“Maximus…” Mr. Wayles placed a hand on his shoulder which he shoved immediately.

“Well, if you come back home and apologize now, I might consider forgiving you. Otherwise, you would regret making such a risky decision.” Mr. Wayles informed him, a hitch of bitterness and mockery in his tone.

“Yes. No one will ever take you in or help you in this state. We are the only one you can rely on.” Mrs. Wayles curled her lips.

“Never. I begged you thrice but what happened? Each time, I leave with a memorable mark. I will never come back to beg!” He said seriously and Kaiden laughed.

“So, do you think you can stand against us with just five million dollars in your account?” Kaiden raised a brow and was a little bit perplexed.

Somehow, he got his courage back.

“No, this time, you, mother, and father will come back and beg me.” With that, he stopped a cab and entered. The car zoomed off.

“What? What does he mean by that?” Mr. Wayles was a little bit shocked by his statement.

“I swear, I will make that bastard pay! And YC company, we have to visit them and cancel their deal with that useless being!” Kaiden said in annoyance and stormed out. He didn't even look at his parents' faces.

Meanwhile, Maximus didn't know how he got the courage to speak to his family members like that but for the first time, he felt relieved.

[NEW MISSION: Glam up in the next 3 hours.] The robotic voice startled him.

He cleared his throat.

“Why?” He mumbled.

[REWARD: +35 Charm, +20 Beauty, and $1 million] The robotic voice announced.

“What?” He gasped at the prize.

If the system could grant him access to $5 million, what was $1 million?

He quickly agreed to the mission as another way to make use of the $5 million in his account.

He stopped the car when it had reached the street and he stepped down.

He walked into DREAM MALL, that one mall that he had, had his eyes on.

That mall that if you didn't have more than $1.5 million, you shouldn't bother visiting.

For the first time, his wish came to pass and he was able to visit the mall.

The first eye that collided with his, was the receptionist. Her eyes were filled with disgust while her lips pouted.

Her eyes rolled from his toes to his head.

His footwear was worn out, and obviously a bathroom flip-flop. His jean trousers were out of color and outdated. His shirt was stale and had torn parts.

He was clearly not part of the rich class customers, why was he here?

The receptionist brushed her eyes away from him and attended to a rich-looking couple.

He noticed this but ignored her and decided to shop alone.

“What are you doing here!?” He turned back and saw one of the mall attendants questioning him in disgust. She looked so annoyed.

“What do you mean? Of course, I'm here to purchase some outfit.” He said, trying to act hold and ignore her rant.

“Purchase an outfit? Does this place look like a second-hand bailing unit? Or a bend-down-select market?” The mall attendant fired at him curtly.

“I know but does that mean I shouldn't shop here because it's none of those?” He ignored her and started touching and checking out some outfits.

“The outfits in that rack are worth up to $2 to $2.5 million, and you…” she gave him a long dirty look. “You can never purchase this.” She said.

“I want this.” He said boldly.

“What?” Her eyes were telling her that the man before her was a poor broke man, but he wanted to get an exclusive outfit.

“You're kidding yourself, right?” She raised a brow, controlling her anxiety.

“No, I want this.” He remained firm in his word.

“If we go to the counter and you can't pay for this, I swear I will do something you're not expecting.” She warned him.

“Is this how you talk to your customers?” He curled his lips.

“Customers? Do you call yourself a customer or a beggar?” The familiar voice from behind made him turn and another slap rested on his face when he saw Anastasia.

She was resting on his ex-best friend's chest, Richard.

“Look who is here. The abandoned, useless, church rat and illegitimate son.” Richard quoted in disgust and the trio laughed.

Maximus clenched his fist in anger.
