Chapter 2 : Indifference

“Oh that, I guess you must have found out, It took you long enough” Lily said absentmindedly, using her fingers to comb out her long blonde hair.

“Don't you think having a child for a miserable man like you, would have been the biggest mistake of my life?” She turned to face Andrew , staring down at him disdainfully.

Her words slammed into Andrew''s heart, his jaw tightening in anger.

7 years ago,at the brink of death, a young girl saved him from the same accident that took his parents.

Andrew gave the girl his family's bracelet that had a special mark on it, as a way to show appreciation.

4 years later, having learned various top notch skills and built his empire from scratch with the help of a mysterious man that picked interest in him, he went in search of the young girl who saved him on that day he escaped death .

And that was how he met Lily Harlow—the girl who saved his life and was still in possession of the bracelet he gave to her.

Although Andrew had been hiding his power to keep eyes off him and investigate properly into the death of his parents —which he believed was a murder, it never stopped him from supporting his wife’s company.

He used his connections to secretly pave ways for her company's growth.

But he didn’t expect that this was what he got from her - a complete betrayal.

“You haven't answered my question Lily, Who is Winnie’s father ?”

“He's right here with you, I don't think he needs an introduction, you could have noticed the resemblance, if only you hadn't been blind to it!” Lily hissed, kissing the other man, whose name was Mike.

“How could you Lily?” Andrew asked, his voice lower than usual,her nonchalance about the paternity fraud hit him deeply.

“How could I? I could, when I realized getting married to you was the biggest mistake of my life”

“And I think it's time, I let the cat out of the bag ”

“We are getting a divorce” Lily announced coldly, flinging the papers to Andrew.

“I'm about to unlock a new level” She announced, flashing a smile to Mike.

“I got chosen as the winner of the A and U project”

“Infact, the Almighty chairman of A and U will be attending the biggest ball he hosted in my honor, to present my award to me—all thanks to the love of my life, Mike.

“And it isn't right that a low-life like you should be seen around me” She concluded, scrunching up her face in disgust.

“Anything for you sweetheart , although it wasn't easy getting A and U to choose you as the winner” Mike said proudly, a wide grin displaying on his face.

“ What project are you talking about?” Andrew butted in, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.

“ The A and U project of course! Mike was the one who helped me secure the project.

“His company, Hillwoods corporation are close partners to the A and U groups” Lily sniggered, tiptoeing to kiss Mike's lips.

“He is capable of giving me anything I want. And you, what can you do, if not leech off my family?” Lily sneered, staring at Andrew contemptuously

Andrew was taken aback,as he let out a very loud laughter , catching the two people in the room unaware.

Andrew scoffed internally at Lily's stupidity.

Was it the same project that he had talked to the CEO of his company to set up?

The same one he had made her win the $50 million dollars and other awards?

And in fact, he was the almighty chairman she was gushing about.

Andrew had planned to hold the ball in her honor as a way to officially announce her company's partnership with A and U and finally reveal his identity to her.

So how was it Mike's doing?

“So you believe he helped you secure the project” Andrew asked without failing to notice the fear that engulfed Mike's face the moment he asked that question.

“ Shut the fuck up Andrew! Mike is more of a man than you could ever be!”

“He has decided to give you $5k dollars to get your stinking self out of our lives and start your miserable life afresh”

“Sign those papers. Before we change our mind.”Lily ordered, pointing at the papers.

“ Lilly, I don't need your money” Andrew said calmly, an aura of power emitting from him.

And for a minute, the room went silent, but just soon enough, Lily and Mike burst into a humiliating laughter.

“Do you even have up to $50 dollars to your name? And you are rejecting an offer that could better your life?”

Andrew ignored their ignorance and continued “I don't go back on my word. Once we divorce it's final, don't end up regretting it” Andrew stated firmly.

“ Over my dead body! You have nothing to offer”

Andrew never expected that Lily would turn out like this, he had vowed to appreciate her till his dying breath because of what she did for him.

But he was deeply hurt and shocked at the extent Lily had gone to.

The one that got him the most was her nonchalance about paternity fraud.

Bringing another man into their matrimonial bedroom and humiliating him in front of the caricature, was also the height of it.

If this is what she wants, then he is ready to give it to her.

“It's so sad that the woman who saved me years ago has disappeared, but…

“Enough with the saving bullshit!”

“ I wasn't the one who saved you”

“ I lied!, I fucking lied!”

“And, I regret going to that length for a thing like you” Lily yelled, knocking waves of shock into Andrew.
