Chapter two: A hidden connection

Robert Anderson, a white Canadian man who was 30 years old, was about 6ft (1.83 m) and an inch with blonde hair and blue eyes, had just been newly married to Emma Anderson and the couple moved to New York to start a family.

Robert had been working late at his new job as a chief security officer for a massive company. His new job had taken so much of his time that his wife wondered if he still cared about her, but of course, he did, but he just could not squeeze in enough time to spend time with her.

After a long day job, Robert decided not to go home because he still had some unfinished business with his boss, though he knew his wife would be worried sick about him, he didn't think twice before going to see his boss.

The next day, he was able to get the day off, so he can spend time with his wife, though a day was too small to make up for the time he had spent away, he still had to see her.

On getting home, he saw Emma at a distance speaking with someone who he assumed to be a man, immediately different thoughts went through his mind.

“Was my wife cheating on me?”

“Who is this man and why is he so close to my wife?”

“Did they just enter my house?.....alone!??”

All these questions raced across Robert's mind, he did not know what to believe, he felt both angry and sad at the same time, he wasn't thinking straight, he trusted his wife but certainly not that man.

Finally, he decided to go in, getting in he saw the two chatting together like they were old-time friends. Emma turned around to see who had entered the house, only for it to be her husband, and that's when the real problem started.

Robert first had to take a chill pill, then slowly asked his wife

“Who is this man?”

Expecting and Earnestly praying for It to be her old-time friend or a distant relative he had not seen before, her answer left him in shock.

“I don't know him, as a matter of fact, I have not seen this man in my life”

Robert was stunned, but he gathered enough strength to ask her

“So why is he on my couch?”

“I'm so sorry I let a stranger in, but he had nowhere to go and if I had not helped him he would have been arrested, he nearly even knows who he his” Emma replied, starting to make a sad face and pretending to sob, so Robert could let him stay.

“Don't worry, he is only staying for the night, he will have to find his way tomorrow” Emma assured her husband.

Robert looked at anonymous and then at his wife and said, "just this night” and walked away.

Anonymous got the feeling he had done something wrong, and probably he was not wanted, so he stood up to leave.

“Where are you going?” Emma asked him.

“it seems your husband does not want me here, so I'm leaving” anonymous replied, opening the door

"What? Of course, he likes you, he was just surprised to see you, nothing else, besides where do you know in this city?" Emma was now trying her best to get him to stay because even her words were not doing any good, her husband's facial expressions towards  Anonymous alone was a real get out of my house look.

After much pleading, anonymous decided to stay for the night. Meanwhile, Robert could not get his mind off anonymous, there was something about him that he could not quite place his finger on.

Alas, he decided to shut his eyes, but then a flash of memory destroyed every atom of sleep he had left.

He remembered that anonymous looked rather like an old friend of his named Travis, but Travis died years ago. There was no way it could be him, but still, he wondered if Travis could still be alive since his body was not found after the accident.

He was now remembering how Travis died how both of them were on the subway heading home, they had earlier on sneaked out of their houses, so they could see a movie. As his memory played like a videotape, he started sobbing because it was all his idea to go see the movie even after his parents refused.

The lights of the subway went off, but the train did not stop, rather it went faster and faster and since it was night, they could not see a thing. The train was now moving at full speed, and soon they reached a dead end, and so they hit the barrier and stopped but the abrupt stop of the train sent everyone flying, causing Robert to hit his head hard, making him become unconscious. Robert woke up in a hospital with his mom and dad by his side, they were all happy to see him final awake, according to them, he had been unconscious for 3 days.

Robert could only think of his friend Travis at that point, but to his greatest surprise, Travis was assumed dead because his body was nowhere to be found. Robert cried his eyes out and ever since he has never forgiven himself for that.

Finally, Robert was free from his mind trap and left to face the reality, who was that man and why did he look like Travis? Robert was so lost in thought he did not know when his wife walked in.

Realizing his wife's presence, he smiled at her and asked her if she knew the guy's name.

“well, he said his name is anonymous” Emma replied , now curious about her husband's sudden interest in anonymous.

"What? Why won't he tell you his name, even after you helped him?"

“no he told me his name, it's anonymous” she replied

“oh, I get it now” Robert said immediately understanding that his name was anonymous.

Finally they were able to get a shut-eye, suddenly they heard a loud shattering sound......
