"I agree that Corai has the most to gain, but wouldn't it be possible that another power is intervening?" I asked, leaning across the table. "They would assume we would blame Corai."

"They would assume correctly, but Corai hopes that we turn our attention elsewhere. That we start looking for other enemies to blame. This has Corai written all over it and I would be willing to bet my life that they're responsible."

"You don't have any proof though."

"No. Until we investigate and get that proof, I'm afraid this is all speculation. As I said, I would bet my life, and my career, that this is Corai. And that is why you called for this meeting, is it not? Perhaps not to ask for my help, but demand it as the viceroy? Command it as a princess."

She got me. "Your record speaks for itself. I'm very impressed. You've been able to root out insurgent and resistance groups across the empire. You've become pretty famous for it."
