. Asher was on his way to the estate of the first family on his list when he received a call from Roxanne.
"Hello Asher," she said in a small voice over the speaker.
On hearing that tone, Asher immediately knew that something was not right. His wife was normally quite calm and soft spoken, but right now something was amiss.
"What's wrong my dear?" He asked, concern lacing his tone.
"It's my parents," she answered, her voice starting to break.
Asher felt unease begin to flow through his veins, but none of it was visible on his face. Hadn't that family hurt them enough? What is it they did this time?
"What's happened? How did they hurt you? What did they do?" He asked her in a calm voice.
She took a deep breath on the other side before she began to speak, "You know how bad things are at the company financially. That's why they want me to marry Seth Larsen, so that his family will invest in our company. But I don't want to marry him, so I brought up the idea of sending out business proposals to potential investors," She paused to catch her breath, then continued.
"Now, they gave me an ultimatum of three dayscto find a strong investor, or I'll be forced to divorce you and marry Seth. They know how valuable I am to the company and they don't want to fire me, so they came up with this plot instead." She explained and burst into tears.
At the sound of her crying, a deep icy rage curled in Asher's gut. He fisted his hand on his lap until his knuckles turned white. Keeping the anger out of his tone, he began to placate his wife,
"Roxanne, please, don't cry."
"How can I not cry? This task is impossible to achieve." Roxanne sobbed.
Asher then asked her in a resolute tone, "Do you trust me, Roxanne?"
She sniffled, then replied, "Yes, I trust you. Always."
"That's good. I'll fix this, don't worry. Where are you now?"
"I'm in my office, I just got there."
"Alright," Asher said. "I'll meet you there soon."
"Okay. Goodbye then." Roxanne said and hung up.
Asher lowered the phone from his ear and spoke to the driver,
"Take me to Harper Corp. Headquarters."
"You got it boss." the driver nodded and made the turn that will take them to the Harper Corporation building.
Roxanne, who had calmed down, sat in her office deep in thought. She wondered how exactly her husband planned on getting her out of this situation. He wasn't rich or influential, he was just a live-in son in law. But something about the resolution in the way he spoke to her told her that she really could trust him not to let her down.
Asher told the driver to drop him a block away from the Harper Corporation building. The car was too flashy and would draw a lot of unwanted attention if he was seen. He made another mental note to get a less flashy car to enable him move around more easily.
As he approached the front doors of the building, he was stopped by the two security men standing guard.
"Hey you, stop there. Where do you think you're going?" One of them called out.
Asher ignored them and kept on going.
"You there! Aren't we talking to you? Stop moving!" The other one said.
Asher slowed down and gave them a blank look.
"What business do you have with the Harper Corporation?" the first guard asked him?
"I'm here to see my wife." Asher deadpanned.
On hearing those words, twin looks of amusement appeared on the guards faces.
"Are you sure you're in the right place?" the first guard asked with malice lacing his voice.
"Isn't this the Harper Corporation?" Asher fired back in the same tone.
The second guard chuckled darkly then asked, "Since you're so confident, who's your wife?"
"Roxanne Harper," Asher replied.
The two guards took a moment to let his words sink in, then they simultaneously burst into laugher. The fact that her last name was Harper already said enough. But Roxanne? Even though she was officially the COO, everyone knew that she practically ran the whole company. However, everyone knew she was married to a good for nothing. So this was him, as he never showed his face in the company none of them recognised him.
"So you're the loser married to miss Roxanne." Guard two mocked.
"Now that you know who I am, can I go up and see my wife?" Asher asked them.
"Yes, if you kneel and beg us to let you in, we might let you." guard one said with a laugh.
Asher gave the two of them a long, hard look, then turned and walked away as their laughs and taunts accompanied him.
He pulled out his phone and made a phone call to Roxanne apologising and explaining why he couldn't show up. She understood and promised to see him later.
However, he was done letting matters slide. He had marked the faces of those guards and he swore that they would pay. In the meantime, he placed a call to his driver to come and pick him up.
As he had decided to embrace his other identity, it came with a lot of responsibilities. It interfered a bit with his plans to have revealed himself earlier than planned, but with the right preparations, he could still achieve his end results.
There was a reason he had to stay hidden though, as his enemies couldn't know that he was back, if not the results would be disastrous. So, he had to lie low and play his cards from the shadows until the time was right.
And he was about to put the first phase of his plan in motion.

"It's fine," Asher replied. He opened a small black box that was kept on the seat beside him in the car. In the box was a black card with a glittering silver stripe along one side, and a sleek black smartphone. He tucked both items into the pocket of his jeans and stepped out of the car and into the hotel lobby. Once he entered the hotel, he went straight to the front desk where a young woman was sitting behind it. She took one look at him, noticing his old jeans and rough t-shirt and her face dissolved into a frown. "I'd like a room for the night, please." Asher said to her.
